when you guys are talking about the bars, what are you referring to? how many cycles the blue bars make until xp is loaded? in my case, it cycles a pathetic 15x before xp loads. when i initially installed xp w/o sound or any drivers, it was amazingly fast. something is slowing the boot process and i bet it's the sound according to everyone here.

Its not only the onboard audio thats causing it to be so slow, I am supposed to have a much faster comp now and I cannot get below 4,5 splash bars whereas my older system would boot on 2 splash bars(same raptor disk used, same programs installed under windows and even used onboard audio on that DFI board of mine as well).
So its multiple issues that are causing this slow boot, we already know onboard audio is a major factor, but there's still another UNKNOWN factor causing this slow bootup at the splash bar part of windows. I am sure that once this is found we will see 3 splash bars and lower.
Ok I guess I'll reinstall my audigy card, I really didn't want to as it will sit practically touching my graphics card, I've also noticed problems with some programs locking up when digital output and DTS are enabled, this seems a common problem as my friends crosshair motherboard wouldnt run the nalu demo with it enabled eiher.
Cappie can you disable your 1394 controller and any unused network ports and see if that helps with your boot speed? Some of my testing is showing that it does. I want to cross reference with someone. Please also run another bootvis optimization afterwards.Quote:

I have tryed every voltage possible on board (Sb/NB/FSB/chip) and up to 1.625v on the chip to try and get it stable @ 3.2 (which is way lower than i already expected to get). I have followed the guides that are posted and have everything disabled on the chip except the 2 recommended enables and PCI-e set to 101 (have tryed a few different settings).
I am really starting to pull my hair out. I really didnt want to fork out $225 bucks for a MB that is not performing up to its name. I really dont think its the CPU since the other 626A chips i have seen are performing great.
Any ideas on what to do? Sell the the MB and go with a DS3? Try another chip? I am lost......

I have the jmicron controller enabled so I can use my old udma 5 boot drive and dvd drive, could this be my problem? I'm running the seagate on the intel sata connector in AHCI mode using the intel matrix drivers.

i got my p5b deluxe today,i have updated to 0804 bios.
i am using my pentium d 930 till i get my e6300 nxt week.in my old board(asus p5wd2) i used to run it at 4.2ghz@1.3375vcore with ram at 933mhz using a divider,280 fsb.
the problem is i cant get this board to run at them settings or even my safe oc for this chip.which were-4ghz/270fsb/1.3325vcore/900mem/5:4 div.
unfortunatley i am using the onboard sound with the newest 4070 un certified driver.
i hav disabled the firewire/serial port.do i need to disable the lan2 as well?.
can anyone PLEEZ give me any tips on getting this 930 to oc in this board?.do i need to up the chipset voltages on this board?.i ran them on auto setting on the p5wd2 as i dont really know about how much to up them.

i have used bootvis and i have a raptor drive. i'll try disabling sound and lan, but i do use the firewire so i don't want to disable that. actually i don't want to disable anything, but i'll try it to see.
Disabled GBE lan or something now, 1394 was already disabled, and after bootvis splash bars dropped from 6 to 5, cuz for some reason or another I couldn't maintain the 4,5 splash from before. But still, 1 splash bar less with that LAN port disabled.Quote:

i disabled second lan and ran bootvis again and am down to "just" 10 bars vs 15 before. i also disabled most things in msconfig.

Hi all,
First post but long time reader. I have always managed to find a solution by reading the threads but this time I am stucked.
My config is as follows:
- Asus P5B Deluxe wifi with bios 0614
- E6600
- 2GB of Corsair twinx C4
I had managed to overclock it at FSB = 450MHz and CPU multiplier at 7.
Everything is stable, everything is on auto except the Vdim, and SB as well as the RAM time set manually to 4-4-4-12 as per the ram specs.
The other day I noticed that there was a new bios, the 0804. I decided to flash it.
Big mistake. When I rebooted, the system did not post. I had to switch the PSU off, then on again and load the default settings. With the default settings the system boots but obviously I am not happy with that. So I downgraded the bios to 0614 and reloaded my o/c profile. I was expecting it to boot. That's what it did but as soon as window xp loaded, the cursor froze and the window welcome sound kept playing in a loop.
Now for the weird thing. On this machine I have a dual boot with windows vista RC2. With the same o/c profile, vista boots with no problem and I can use it the way it is meant to be used. No freeze, crashes, etc...
I am suspecting the sound chipset on the board because vista is using a different driver but I could be wrong.
Even if I reboot xp and lower the FSB to 400MHz, the cursor still freeze and I have the sound problem.
I have not changed anything on he board so I was wondering if anybody here would have an idea.
Also another question you guys might be able to answer is that my FSB is set to 450MHz and the mulitplier to 7 which give me a 3.16GHz for the CPU. Now I have used a few tools to read the FSB and the CPU clock and all the tools are telling that my CPU runs at 4.05GHz and the FSB is 578MHz. I have used the intel diagnostic tools, CPUz, Vista Device Manager, etc...
All are reporting a 578MHz FSB and 4.05GHz which I think is correct since my idle temperature is 46-48 degrees and load around 55 (if heavy load).
My cooler is a Zalman 9500.

mine is also l626a, currently stuck @470 with ddr667 sticks elpida chips (1.4875 vcore n 2.25 vdimm, other 4 voltages below vcore in auto). So try not to set those voltages too high @400+ (other than vcore and vdimm)
And there is another guy in this thread who stuck @430 with better chip and ram. So i cannot sure whether its the chip or maybe the board is holding back.

Emistral - with 614 there is an option in the audio settings to set it for "Vista," which is gone in 804. I remember if I didn't set it it still worked though, except for the mike. Try that...
Will try that however i am basically stuck @ 345 with tht stock multi no matter what voltage. My goal was 400-450 but so far i am just disappointed. I will more than likely buy a DS3 to test. If it works out then the p5b will go to ebay.Quote:

well I did more tries tonight and when I have the welcome logon screen, the mouse cursor simply freeezes. This is not even accessing/loading windows.
I am completely stucked now. I have tried all the voltage settings: max them one by one, set on auto, readjust the memory timing, etc...
I even set the memory timing to auto (SPD) but still left the jumperless configuration to manual with a 450MHz frequency and sample problem.
I disabled the audio in the BIOS, same problem. It just freezes before loading windows. This 804 bios screwed up everything.
But the weird thing is that the same overclocking profile that used to work stills work when I boot vista.
