Umm... chalk this dumb question up to being a newb. Why do you differentiate PPD differentials by the day? Good Sunday? Good Friday? Production should be constant barring people leaving, arriving and PVJ. I can understand: "good for the end of the month." :yepp: With all the restrictions the criminals in Washington impose on new power production and consumption, a decrease in points as people attempt to limit their KWH at the end of the month would be expected. ;) 4 days into the month, pedals should be to the metal!!! Good for a Friday? Good for a Sunday? WTF is that?:shrug::shrug: A typical Tequila Friday type question. :rofl::rofl:
BTW- WFO means Wide F-ing Open as Ben Spies demonstrates @ Sepang. Traveling at over 150 MPH, it looks like he wants to run through the grass as he slides around the track with the throttle to the stop. :)

Point returns vary by the day for a number of reasons. A number of universities and colleges run systems on the grid but many of those are only during the academic year, also many students run machines in their dorms but only while they are living on campus. So too many businesses run machines on the grid but those machines are only on during the working week. Combine those and you will see an overall increase in pending units on weekends and outside the school year and surges in returns when those machines come back online to complete units that are cached but not completed yet and when students get their "free" power back and ramp up their farms.
Weekend numbers are always lower also, I think the validation servers only validate 2x per day on the weekends and 4x on the week days or something like that :dunno:
F@Hades doesn't use a validation system as far as I know. Each unit is worth x points on successful return and that's it. Honestly, I like part of that system for a few reasons but it's not how WCG works.
Individual numbers fluctuate and that fluctuates the team numbers. We just like cheerleading the numbers really.

Pretty damned consistent few days

Ok I hit my first 100k day today, thanks mom!
Go Team!
Congrats Shoota, and another solid 15m for the team :D

The streak was good while it lasted :D
Want to explain my low WCG output.
I'm in the hospital since a week with a collapsed lung and my dad turned off 2 crunchers at my place.
He knows I'm into WCG and all , but he doesn't understand why the computers should be running when I'm not there. Really didn't want to argue with him.
Luckily my 2 other systems aren't attached to a screen and are still running fine.
He didn't want to shut these down the quick & dirty way
I try to look at it in a positive way ... only consuming 391w at the moment:eh:
You worry about getting better. The points will look after themselves.
XtremeSystems 15,040,577
Back in the purple!
And feel better! (to our recently deflated teamates!! :) )
I'm sure he'll be as good as new in no time

Dave we need your phonecalls to inspire/intimidate us
XtremeSystems 13,858,158
Notice how the numbers are creeping up again at the mere mention of phonecalls from Mr. Motivator? :D

Yay 15M :D
My quad opteron cruncher with the really old glitchy BOINC had a queue list to upload about a mile long again. It randomly gets stuck in the uploads so I have to reboot it. Wish I had gotten the newer, stable BOINC but I can't quite figure out how to upgrade it in linux :p: :zombie:
If you're using Ubuntu and installed from the repositories it's not that hard.
Just download the latest stable from Berkley and extract it in your home folder. It should create a folder named BOINC.
Then open a terminal and:
cd BOINC
sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client stop
sudo cp boinc boinccmd boincmgr /usr/bin
sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client start
all done.
I might have gotten it from the repositories. I followed the "linux idiot guide" sticky and it resulted in installing an old beta release - I should have checked for new versions to begin with :hitself:
I'll give that a shot. Thanks. Should I empty my WU cache first or will they move into the new version without issue?
Just make sure you stop the client first and you should have no issues.
Hope you don't mind me picking your brain a little. I get what the first command does (change directory), and the second (stop client), and the fourth (start client), but what is the third one doing? Is it the install/upgrade command?
No trouble at all :)
The middle command: "sudo cp boinc boinccmd boincmgr /usr/bin" copies (with root authority) the binary files boinc, boinccmd and boincmgr from the current directory (BOINC) to the system directory where they were installed by the package manager. We don't actually need to reinstall the client like you would with Windows, we can just drop the new binary files (the ones we extracted from the Berkley download) over the old ones and restart everything.
