Dothan @ CT-479 - howto and fixes.

I've been reading old posts about dothan and overclocking to see if there are any tips i might missed,
and I have a couple questions maybe someone can help me figure out.

What does VAGP has anything to do w/ overclocking? If PCI/AGP is locked at 33/66, then how dows VAGP help?
Some says VAGP helps system to run stable at higher FSB, but how so?

Anyone has clear answer to whether or not P4x800 series has correct PCI/AGP lock (33/66) at 200FSB?
From what I gathered, at 200FSB, PCI/AGP is indeed set to 33/66, but if using SetFSB or Clockgen, then PCI/AGP divider will not stay lock?

Lastly, what is vdroop? Is this the mod done to either cpu or adapter so it always gives a certain vcore?

vagp also increases volts to the northbridge, thus maybe helping you get to higher FSB..

@200fsb boot, locks work with nvidia cards, but will not work with ati cards (nobody has any idea why though)

Vdroop is a vmod done by soldering various points on the motherboard, using resistance between those 2 points, you are able to stop vcore fluctuations idle, and under load to a certain degree.

Can't test yet, haven't got a 24pin PSU atm...

Can you take a few more picts? This setup looks promising!
But I am a bit worry about if it will stay perfectly flat between the die and heatsink's surface.
From the pict, it looks as though the mounting hook is a bit tilted?

Yeah it looks tinted in the photo, but looks perfect normally, I have a heatspreader so it's easy to tell that it's not tilted by looking under the sink.

Sorry I'm not much of a photographer...

i cant see it clearly on the pics, so ill just ask; do you need to bend the power pins to the adapter to get it fit?

Yeah, or just remove the pins and solder the power connectors onto the other side - you need that for most coolers...

Had the same problem with my 3.2E - managed to get around this by setting the FSB above 212 in bios. When booting into XP with FSB>212 i now get lockable PCI/AGP bus in Clockgen.
This may help the Dothan as well - i haven't tested.

It's locked at anything other than 200/133/100 on the p4p800se.

just fit good ATX2 PSU with 20 pins, fit them that at one side you have 4 missing - it will go, you have to have only, that at least 15A at 12V line

That's weird, it wouldn't boot, had a PCI vid card in as well.

Today one of the cables on the adapter loosend and made a short circuit, what a funny smell (note that the RAM is placed in single channel, didn't notice before I saw the picture): :eek:

Solution: Remove the burnt ground and 5V wire. :D

well turns out it came with an incompatible bios.

Well I got it workin' - booted with my nice cooler - and got a temp of 60C in the bios.

I thought - crap...

Tried stock cooler - was up at 77C...

Figured the heatspreader wasn't making good contact.

Removed it and went to stock cooler.

Still up at 75C.


Shut it off, felt the die - a healthy 30C (approx).

So i figured I have on ****ed up sensor.

So went back to my thermalright solution, got it to 45C in the bios.

Set the vcore to 1.54V.
Set the FSB to 218MHz (max of the RAM).

And made it to windows- just getting the bench stuff ready.

Kamerat, what did you use as the shim? It looks like some kind of a foam?

Is the P4P800E-Deluxe supported? And do I have to flash my bios? Cause it won't boot now :( I can see on the asus site that it's supported, but just want to be sure...

the p4p800-e is supported, but only bios 1007, 1008, 1009 and 1010beta. if you want to change multi in bios, you have to flash a p4p800se bios on it, works perfectly, only raid doesnt.

I have the P4P800-E DLX and my RAID works even though I am using the SE BIOS.

My p4p800e boots fine with 201+, 1010 beta and i have used systool for oc tweaks, however I cant figure out how to startup windows with systool + settings...

If you use the Promise controller, it won't work. If you use the ICH5R controller, it will work. You really shouldn't use the Promise controller anyway as it has performance issues. Try benchmarking your drives using each and you will shortly be using the ICH5R full time.

I got in another Pentium M this week. This one is a 760 and its the first I can get to clock over 2.6GHz (one 730, two 740's and a 750).

Well, I can get this thing to post at up to 2.92GHz. I am quite happy with that. The problem I have is that it will not load Windows at anything higher than 2.75GHz. It posts then goes to the RAID configuration and where it typically comes up with the Windows XP screen, it goes blank and does nothing. I have tried the jumper settings for 400 and 533 FSB with no change. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Perhaps someone has a more positive comment, but isn't this just the perennial overclocking problem of being able to boot the PC, but not make it into Windows?

If I was only able to post at 2.8 and boot at 2.75, I wouldn't even think twice about it. What throws the red flag up with me is that I can post at 200MHz higher than I can boot into Windows.

Since I am running in RAID, I will try it without. Maybe I will try booting off PATA. I don't think these things will make a difference since I am not booting at high FSB speeds (220 max and usually less than 210).

Anyone have any idea where i could find a guide for modding the fsb jumper bit, so it doesnt stick up, i've seen a few pics but never really a description, cheers
