need help with two dvd burners on this mobo

Hi All,

This is my first post but I have been reading this forum for awhile. I have two memorex dvd-burners when I run them on the same ide cable I get problems regardless how jumpers are set. In bios there are seen properly as primary and slave but in windows one drive just freezes the computer and if I try to copy a disk from a to b I get error messages. Anyone out there that can help ? The only way to get both drives to work is to hook up one to the ide cable and the other to the eide on the bottom middle of the mobo which is a huge pain.

CMOS reset needed almost every reboot

Hi all.
This is my first post, and first of all, I would like to thank everyone who has made contributions to this thread.
I am not a native english speaker, so I apologize in advance for my errors.
I´ve been reading a lot on this thread before this post.
I have one big issue with this mobo: sometimes after a reboot or shutdown, the screen simply does not get any signal from the video card, and doesn´t matter what I try (power-off - press shutdown button for more than 5 secs; turn-off the psu; soft reboot - ctrl+alt+del; ...) the mobo won´t post anymore.
The only way to boot or post again is taking the CMOS battery (and the Radeon, to get to the battery) off the mobo, and reset the CMOS (as described by the mobo manual).
This happens even in stock settings.
It has happened using BIOS releases 1101, 1305 (the most stable), 1401, 1402, 1407, 1501 and 1502.
I was wondering if this has not to do with a bug within energy saving BIOS features (that I just can´t disable anyhow)...
I just can´t stand anymore to reset the CMOS everytime I need to reboot...
That´s why I want do ask my question:
Do you think that the rebootbug (1503 fix) can fix this too?

check the timing on your ram or enable spd also does this problem happen when your mobo is not overclocked as well ?

Yeap, running with SPD enabled or the correct timings (according to OCZ 5-6-6-15), I´ve set manually the vDimm at 2.10V (as recommended by OCZ).
Now I am running @ stock 2.4 (9x266) and ram at DDR2-800 :( to ensure stability.
And even @ stock, the problem happens...
Could be the psu (450W)?
I have to agree with you, the X1950XTX is AWSOME!

Only a 450watt?
Might be a problem for sure.

I agree with sparx I would bet thats the problem get a 600 watt or more power supply with 38 amps running on the 12 volt rail for you gpu. 450 isn't enough for that gpu and cpu no way. Do you ever get blue screens or your computer just freezes or shuts off while say gaming ?

Hey, can you Raid0 4xRaptors 36GB on this board? The ICH7R only supports 3 SATA slots so i'm not too sure

Actually the only problem that I´ve been having is at reboot time... no blue screens, no freezing, no shutting off while gaming (DOOM 3 and AmericasArmy270 for testing)...
The system is running for 72 hours now, without any issues (while it´s on at least!).

nope only 3 ports for the ICH7..but i think you can do some kinda mega raid by combining the jmicron + ICH7 in like raid5 or something? I'm havent try this yet...

Well i would think you would have issue's while gaming kinda strange

I would buy I power supply from a store with a good return policy and try it to see if that corrects your issue

also try taking out one of your ram sticks and booting and then the other also while switching slots you might have a bad ram stick.

I´ve run memtest86 without any errors... will try to change my psu at the store...

Could this be related to the rebootbug?

I would still try to pull your ram 1 at a time and change slots just to test it. Its really sounds like thats the issue but even if it is you still need a bigger power supply I dont think thats going to fix your boot up issue though.

If you want to do that, and it would be FAST.. get yourself a cheap Promise SATA raid card with 4x SATA ports.. it will work sooooo much better and you won't have to :banana::banana::banana::banana: with all the mobo controllers + drivers etc to get it working.. all those on motherboard raid implementations are half-ass imo.. Anyways, I priced out a nice Promise controller like this for like $80 on newegg.. anyways.. good luck!

For the price Promise controllers imo are nice.. I have owned many and they've all worked great for me.. RockRaid makes an ok $100 SATA controller also.. These are not even real hardware raid cards.. they make the cpu do raid computations (raid5 parity comps, etc..), but anyways.. /REAL/ hardware raid cards cost a LOT.. so for a sub $100 raid card Promise is pretty ok.

No idea why you're having problems, should just work, however, get the latest floppy create program from the intel site instead of using the asus cd, the intel drivers are a lot newer and give higher performance.

I grabbed a copy of XP Pro and i was able to install my Martix Raid 0 with no problems at all. Was a crappy copy of xp giving me all the grief!. Thanks for all the help. Working like a charm and FAST!

I have been working my OC with my PW5 DH now for about 4 days (as time permits) using the 1201 stock BIOS and want to eliminate the Shutdown Bug as much as the next guy but I don't want to funk up my rig doing so.

How much of an issue is this checksum errror some are getting when flashing 1503?

So far I have hit 375 x 9 12 hours stable testing with Orthos with no errors, should I wait a little longer for the next BIOS update?

What with the troubles 1407 gave me, despite numerous CMOS resets, I would prefer not to keep resetting just to find out it's still going to be an issue. Plenty of folks could boot 1407, even some with manual RAM settings but not Corsair brand RAM, so I'll wait a bit for a revised 1500 series...

Yeah that's about all i'm getting 12 hour stable with my cpu too, I also have a L628 fyi, but its A270. what volts are you running on? I have to use 1.41v to do 375mhz.

Please let us know how you get on with the bigger power supply. Mine does this too (the black screen on bootup) with an AcBel 550W power supply, but I never have to reset the CMOS. I just turn off the power supply and reboot the PC and it boots up fine. Incidently, I'm using Corsair XMS5400C4 with manual 5-5-5-15-5 timings in the bios at 800mhz (with 400 FSB).

I am using 1.4875vcore, but I think the board under volts. According to BIOS my idle temps are 32c, the HS does not even feel warm to the touch.

Ortho did not fail at 12 hrs I shut it off.
I have not tried for 380 as yet been at work. I need to copy down all my BIOS settings for the record before I flash, but not sure about the 1503 yet. :confused2

I decided to play with my ram timing after flashing to bios 1503. I noticed that I can now lower my timing on my Corsair PC2 - 8500 ram to 4-3-4-4 2t @ 1010 mhz. Before flashing I couldnt get that low. Not sure if this will make a big difference to my computer application, but just letting others know thats one difference I noticed going to Bios 1503.

E6600 Fsb 303 @ 2.8 mhz
Corsair Ram 4-3-4-4 2t @ 1010 mhz
