I always thought...

Vdrop = difference between bios vcore and windows idle vcore.
Vdroop = difference beteen bios vcore and windows load vcore.


at least that's what most users complain about on the internet when reporting vdroop and vdrop. but vdroop is usually what's discussed most because it's what effects stability testing under 100% load. maybe it's just a big misconception, dunno.. but a lot of people think this when reporting vdroop. so many of the posts your read are defined this way... even if it is wrong..

all intel cares about is vdroop...each board is different because the way the board is designed and the way the bios is coded to set vcore.

abit's vcore settings is way off depending on what bios you use...i don't have an explanation of why each bios can be way out of tolerance for the set vcore...to me, it is a whacky way of designing a bios;)

i was once focused on the same thing like you...i just come to the belief that it isn't important after trying almost every beta bios abit has produced for this board and then, seeing the whacky results!...i think abit is just having a difficult time getting the code set to universally support all those processors which have different VID's.

if i were to guess, it probably has something to do with them locking the MCH bus which prevents you from using Memset to adjust the memory settings...in addition, you have the Uguru chip on the board talking directly to the bios via the windows based software.

plus, I really don't get why people get all hung up on having the bios not match what is reported in windows.. it really doesn't matter what bios says, just what is really happening when it's under load and needs the voltage... they might as well put letters instead of numbers next to bios vcore settings, then maybe it wouldn't be such an issue. because a lot of users get all bent out of shape when they set bios to 1.45v, then boot into windows and see 1.4v.... the sky starts falling... as long as I can attain a stable oc, I really don't care what bios says or idle vcore is doing.. .02

I have a Xeon 3050 in my Ip35 Pro ver 1.1 bios 16. I struggled back and forth with different memory and finally got some new double sided ballistix back from RMA and decided to take another crack at an overclock.

In the beginning i was a little put off that the bios set the vid at 1.325 and would not let me go below it. But oh well. In the long run 1.325 is all this chip needs to do 3.2ghz. I was pulling my hair out for quite some time trying different voltages on the NB and cpu and different memory timings etc etc. It was getting really frustrating because I was pretty sure this cpu was a capable one. I kept getting blue screen irg_not_egual.....yada yada.....on the uguru.sys module.

It didn't seem to matter how high I set the voltages or how loose I set the timings. And I never got any errors for anything except that uguru.sys. I just kept getting those blue screens every day or so.

So this morning I uninstalled the uguru windows software and the driver for the chip and removed the driver software. I set the FSB at 400 and the memory at 1000mhz with 5-5-5-15 and the vcore is 1.325 (stock) and mch is 1.33v. Memory at 2.2v of course. Everything else at stock.

It does an 18 second superpi million and passes OCCT and Everest stress and memtest86 3 passes and superpi 32 million two concurrent runs.

Now with the uguru.sys driver removed and the uguru chip basically disabled to windows the bios still does fan control and reports temps the same as it should. I imagine if I had thrown 1.46v at it like others have, I might have gotten it stable without the uguru.sys blue screens, but I can't imagine why I'd need to when it runs perfectly sound at stock voltage and 3.2ghz.

These were nice results for a day when it was too hot to go outside. I would have posted this on the abit forum but it has been down for 3 days and the taiwan abit site is gone too. I hope that doesn't mean anything bad.

well on Bios 16 with E7200, idle v = 1.3,load = 1.27... was smaller with 65nm but 45nm is pulling more current. the 4phase pwm is prolly being stressed a bit more then before.

with any of them... since its older then core 2 and is a netburst based cpu. you will want to stick with bios 14 though for that one, imo.

thermal control is using intel TM1 or TM2 in the cpu. for when the cpu core gets hot enough it starts to throttle down to lower temps.

Limit cpuid maxval is for older OS's so no issues there with 2000 or newer. as this is meant for Windows 98 and older.

C1E – Intel’s so-called enhanced halt state. Read Anandtech’s blurb about it here for more. Disable initially, enable later on and see if the system remains stable. This is a power savings option.

Execute Disable Bit - enable. XP has a setting to help with virus protection and requires this set to enable.

SpeedStep - Automatically lowers the multiplier from its max. (9x for the Q6600) to 6x when the machine is idle. The result is less power consumption and heat production. It goes back up to 9x when you start to get a CPU load. Disable initially, enable later on and see if the system remains stable. This is a power savings option.

I'm about to add three 120mm Yate Loon D12SL-12 side fans for my Stacker 830 ...could use some inspirational build/wiring ideas to keep wirings clean and manageable.
I don't have fan controllers.

So Xs RoB came to rescue

so I was wondering if any of the fan connection on this board I could use to control the noise level with uGuru EQ...I've never used it before.:(
I just installed the uGuru3 3.1.0.7 and I see there is a setting for a quiet mode....is there a way I can set that up?

every fan connection on the board is controlled within Uguru and the bios.

I'm not OC'ing anymore...quite happy with my 2.4Ghz default settings.

Would stringing the three Yate Loons to one connection to the fan connection mobo pose possible threat to the mobo...maybe an overload perhaps?

not sure if there is a tutorial...look on you abit install disc for any PDF files.

Wrong thread man, check out the Q9450 OC/TEMPS/SETTINGS thread.

Anyway, you the max for 24/7 should be definitely below 1.4v, while others say below 1.35.

THe only way to accurately measure VDROOP is with a multi meter
Vdroop is nto the differnce between bios votls and windows volts

But its its the differnce when the pc is on idle in wondows, as compared to full load (use OCCT, Orthos or PrIME95 to get to full load)

The differnce between the two is the vdroop.

I've about had it with Vista and am considering going back to XP. Vista mail support sucks, read SLOW (Outlook 2003, Live Mail, and Windows Mail). I need Hotmail support and Outlook Express so far is the winner. I've heard conflicting stories about hotmail support being phased out at the end of June for anything but Live Mail, it would suck to go back to XP only to have MS yank OE hotmail support. Any guidance one way or another?

gtl ref setting should start at 63%...67% is for the 65nm cpu's.

as for vista, i use the 64 bit version and i use Window's Mail...it works well.

I booted up first time into my raid install upon first assembly no issues.

I had no trouble pressing F6 at all!

I get great hd speeds with two 150 raptors sliced into the matrix baby!

Help! I have been running for months with the system in my sig. Other than 3 rma bouts with my Ballistix all has been well. Tuesday night I started having trouble getting out of sleep mode, took a hard reboot. Last night it wouldn't come back at all but it was late so I didn't check what could be the cause, just figured it was the Ballistix again. I was so sure I even ordered up some Gskill this AM from the Egg. Whan I got home tonight I started looking for the offending stick. Last night when I tried I noticed that the bios had been reset. On trying to boot tonight I reset the bios but it would hang on the reboot. It did this with all 4 sticks one at a time. The error code at the hang is E4. I finally found that the code is for bios corruption (I think). So I pulled tha battery and rset the thing for 30 minutes and it still hung at E4. I went back to bios and changed the vdimm from Auto to 2.2v and for whatever reason it finally booted up. I put in another stick of ram and that booted fine as well. It is late and I am going to stop for the night. I will try adding the other 2 sticks and redoing my o/c tomorrow. What caused this episode and what the he** is an E4 code anyway? I really don't want to deal with this again.

has anyone gotten the ip35 pro with a q9450 to 4ghz stable?

there is a 4E in the manual...suggest you read that one...it might be saying your vcore is insufficient.

for whatever reason, your memory is requiring higher than normal Vdimm...feed it what it wants!;)

Thanks Ace. I couldn't find the manual last night, I really need to straighten up a bit. I wonder why after almost a year it all at once wants more juice? It has been solid at 3.6 with 1.4325v in bios all that time. This is puzzling :shrug:

I have had a thought. System is back to running 3.6 and seems to be running like it should. I have an idea what may have happened. I was working with a wireless gaming adapter on the Tuesday when I started having the problems. I needed to plug in an additional network cable to the second nic and was leaning over the top of the case reaching over the back to plug it in. I had hit the k/b PS2 cable and was trying to plug it back in, kinda feeling around for the hole. Could I have hit the BIOS reset switch an moved it just a bit. Could that have caused a BIOS corruption, which seems to be what I had?

Has anybody else found that 17 B04 disables Virtualization?

Unlikely. You can't set the VTT high enough to do so. And tbh even if you could it would probably be beyond safe levels for the Q9450.

hi all, I have a few issues ith my IP35 Pro and would like some ideas.....
It is using bios 16 and I'm using Q6600 B3.
Tuniq Tower is hooked up to CPU fan header.
One other fan are hooked up to Aux header.

1. Coretemp shows all 4 cores at 44 degreed right now.
But Abit uGuru shows it all at 59 degrees. Why such big diff?
It showed far less difference with Bios14 I believe. But B16 made it huge..
So if I try to change the FanEQ cpu temp values, I can't as it won't allow such high values to be set.

2. When I do a soft reboot, fan headers stop working under FanEQ.
So they don't speed up even when the CPU is under load..... Just runs at minimum speed.
But if I shut down my pc and also turn off my PSU then back on, it works.
So every time I reboot, I have to cut power from the mains so my motherboard gets no power for a while....
I've had this issue with original bios, bios 14 and now 16... Any one have this issue also?

This one is a known issue with BIOS v.16. It was tailor-made for 45nm CPUs and 65nm ones read incorrectly. IMHO, v.14 is the one to go with if you have a 65nm CPU.

This one I've not heard of. The only fan issue I've seen (also well known) is with a 3-pin fan plugged into the CPU socket. The board will lose control of it occasionally and cause it to run full speed all the time. When that happens, it's necessary to power down, remove power and hit the power button (to discharge capacitors). After that, you can power back up and it'll regain control of the 3-pin fan. Your particular issue I can't recall seeing before though. Tried a nice, deep CMOS reset? Like so:

• Remove power from the system.
• Hit the power button to discharge the capacitors.
• Move the CCMOS jumper to the clear position.
• Remove the battery from the motherboard.
• Do something else for an hour.
• Replace the battery.
• Place the jumper back in the normal position.
• Restore power and boot up immediately into BIOS.
• Select "Load Optimized Defaults" and set the recommended voltage for your RAM
• Save & exit.
• On reboot, go directly into BIOS and set the recommended timings for your RAM and any other options you'd like to set (i.e. boot order, etc.).

Also, yes, mine also does sometimes get stuck running at MAX fan speed as well. And I do need to shut down, cut power, empty capacitors then power it back up. Is this "only" for the CPU header? or is it for all headers? Hmm. So this is a known issue. But yeah. Yea; the one I referenced is only on the CPU header. To rid themselves completely of that one, some took their 3-pin CPU fan and put it on the SYS header. The other option is of course to get a 4-pin fan for the CPU.

Hi all,
I'm on my 2nd IP35pro. This time aiming for 3.6GHz on a Q6600 (using Xigmatek S1283, 4x1GB Crucial Ballistics, evga 8800GS, Raidmax RX-530SS psu).

So far I just have an IDE NEC DVD writer in slave, along with an IDE 80GB Seagate in Master, and no SATA devices. The DVD shows up in the list of bootable options (I set it to 1st), but the HDD does not appear to spin up or be recognized as a device, not to mention a bootable device. I selected 'hard drive' as the second boot option. It has XP installed from the previous PC. I thought it would at least boot into Safe Mode, but no luck.

When I place the XP disc in the optical drive it hangs while installing files.

Is it possible the IDE HDD is not being recognized because I've mis-set something in BIOS? Where do I read what BIOS version i have?

some of the IDE drives have a single drive jumper...you need to make sure you have that 80g ide drive set up as the primary drive...usually the easiest thing to do is set the drive and NEC DVD drive to CS (cable select) mode...then, primary and slave is selected by which cable plug is plugged into the IDE drive.

Wal, that was it, sort of, the DVD was set to Master. I set it to Cable Select and now the HDD shows up. Thanks.

Now for more fun...

Anyone have any recommendations to bringing up my ram speed? I have 1066MHz memory and it's running at 800MHz. Is it just as simple as changing the divider? If so what's a good recommendation for my ram?

It's looking like 3.2GHz (8x400) at Vcore=1.45 is sorta kinda stable.

the USB bus works well with a Flash drive, but won't recognize my Trendnet wireless adapter, so I can't access the internet.

Any ideas to get the TEW-24UB to work with the USB connection?

You'll need to do set the ratio to 1:1.5 and overclock a bit by raising the FSB to 356. Should be an easy OC for your E8400. Of course you won't be able to do any of this without raising Vdimm to the manufacturer's recommended value.

I have the same problem. After I shut the PC down...it turns back on after 5-10 seconds for no apparent reason. I've cleared the CMOS with no luck, I'll have to try and remove the battery for 5 min as suggested and I hope that works. This problem is drivin me nuts...!

If taking the battery out doesn't fix the problem, is there any other tricks I can try? I searched the thread but the above-quoted is the only thing I could find for this issue...

try the battery out first and then come back with your 2nd part of the question

Not at all; it should be just fine. That value is overrated anyway IMHO. It's Intel's "quad pumped" value. The actual system clock will be 356MHz; it just receives four instructions per cycle. The "MHz" moniker given to that number (1424) is misleading if you ask me. Regardless, no, it won't hurt anything. It's a very mild overclock and should not stress the system out at all.

Good to hear. This is my first Intel setup, I came from an X2 AMD that I had overclocked. I just want to be sure I don't hurt the new baby :)

at one time cpuz was very close to what uguru would report for vcore...what is your vcore as reported by uguru?

My e8400 needs vcore=1.29v in Bios for it to be stable @ 3.6. The rest looks the same except for my DDR2=2.1v. I didn't even bothered to find out how much this baby needs to be stable at 4!

thats called your vdrop and vdroop

ie. you set your bios at 1.4 then you load windows cpu-z might read 1.38 then when you put it under load it might go even lower maybe 1.37 or more.... but if you have llc it might go higher maybe back to 1.4 or maybe not move at all its perfectly normal a way to eliminate or reduce vdrop/vdroop is by a pencil mod

Thanks vassalle, I am upping the voltage and running prime @ 375 now, so far so good. Any idea what the safe max for a E8400 is? Will take the FSB higher tonight.

Ok I am seeing people running as high as 1.45 vcore on the E8440, think I will try and stay below 1.3, I thought 1.29 seemed high :)

right, i know that. But I thought it was obvious that I was pointing out the 0.300v

doesn't that seem a little low (-1.1v)!? I have never seen it spike that low before, so was wondering if there's a problem.

Its been a while since ive been here. I have a question i would like to update my ram as i feel its holding me back. I am currently clocked at 3.8 gightz on air cooling and my temps are low enough i could prolly run at 4 gig. I am hoping you guys could make a quick ram suggestion for me im looking for 2 gigs of memory in a 1 gig sticks dual channel . I am looking for something faster more stable and not to expensive. I currently have a q6600(go) abit ip35 pro configuration. thank you

How much success have you had overclocking those gskill hz sticks in your sig SHAIDO7? Have you tried different voltages and timings? I had a pair of those and they were quite good for me.

hello all, i hope this is the relevant thread as i'm in need of some help, since i have re-installed windows xp with service pack 3 slip streamed, i am having trouble getting my mic to work, i don't have this problem on vista though, this is with the realtek hd audio drivers, latest ones 1.95 iirc, i get sound no problem, i am getting static if i blow into the mic, but it wont work through things like ventrilo or games :/

i think there is a hotfix somewhere with sp3, but not official atm, though i think that was for sound not a problem with the mic?

well I had all my notes written down i don't know what happened to them after my divorce but yes i tried different timing and voltages they started out pretty good but then i could never get the same overclocks after i was done testing multiple configurations. i think i had reached over 1k mhz on these but then after that couldn't get back to that speed.i think i went as high as 2.4 volts at the end of my testing for less than a minute.

i have the GSkill DDR-6400 four gig kit on IP35 Pro board and they are running perfectly at 1068 mhz (534 mhz memory speed) using 2.1 Vdimm..of course, Vdimm is not the only voltage tweaked....my MCH is at 1.64v; ICHIO 1.5 is at 1.70v; DDR2 REF is at +2%; CPU VTT at 1.3v...the only one voltage at default is ICH 1.05.

What version of windows are you using for the 4 gigs? do you feel it is benefitting you if you are only seeing 3 gig in windows xp? I am a gamer and need speed not sure of having 4 gigs will slow me down or help.

i am using Vista64 SP1 now, and before SP1, it was just Vista64 and then XP SP2...i am not talking about Prime 95 stable...i have a stable system for the things i do, which are NOT any games.

Has anyone tried bios 17?

I'm @ 400 mhz FSB on my E8400, took vcore 1.3650 to get it prime stable. Even going to 405 prime fails. Anyone see an issue with 1.3650 vcore on air (AC 7 Pro) MCH is @ 1.29, everything else default. I've got GTLR @ 63% on both. Prime load showing 62C (core 2)in Everest and vcore @ 1.33. Seems Core #2 always fails and runs the hottest, core 1 will run at much lower vcores without failure.
Any suggestions, should I go higher on my vcore to get more FSB or not push the vcore any higher. I see 1.45v is the max Intel rates the 45nm for.

look at my post above for suggestion on MCH and ICHIO 1.5...those two are critical for a high FSB overclock as well as proper Vdimm and Vcore...FSB VTT needs a small increase to around 1.3v

Hi Guys,

Finally got my NB and GPU in my loop with a PA120.3 and pushed my Q6600 to 3.6GHz stable 50C in Coretemp (61 in uguru) after 10hrs (using Bios 16).

Notice the temp difference between the cores? this is my 4th mount with different blocks and I still get this difference. potential lapping candidate?

So with new modded BIOS i can chanhe perf/level only for 0 and 1 mem/slots. Which are 0 and 1? Which are closer to the CPU? So there will be no dual channel mode for my 2x2 GB ?

Channels numbers are not slot numbers.

I'm pretty sure Channel0 is slots 1/3 and Channel1 is slots 2/4

You are right, Channel0 is slots 1/3 and Channel1 is slots 2/4;
So with modded bios it's possible to change PL separately for Channel A & B .
It's better cause differents settings by defaut is frequent for this timing;
For example, if I run a hight FSB/DRAM ratio and lower frequency, I get PL 4 for channel A and PL 5 for channel B.

There isn't one that I know of really. The only one at abit on the -E/Vanilla version is about fixing the double-boot that has morphed into a general BIOS / tech support / overclocking / random thread. Of course in the past couple days it's been taken over by a couple people going back and forth at each other that we had to rather forcefully end. :rolleyes: Anyway, no modded BIOS that I know of for these; they're less popular with the crowd that would mod a BIOS, if you know what I mean. :p:

Mine needs at leaast 1.27V and it is not stable at stock clock. I get a complete restart, at random intervals.

naw probably not, though i have not seen anyone run benches with pcie1.1 board yet and this card. People asked the same thing when the 9800x2 came out a few months back, and the test show a 2% difference on identical test systems. Could have been anything.

best bet is make sure your cpu is up to snuff with the newer cards coming out, a pcie1.1 board should be fine

PL change does not work for me in new modded bios. I change it from bios, but in memset PL is still the same(7 on 1/1.2, 8 on 1/1). Invoke boot agents are enabled. All timing are set manually. Whats wrong?

check to make sure that MemSet is not set to "auto"...that will override any bios setting.

no, "auto" is unchecked.
Strange bug:
If I set channel0(2*2Gb) to PL=8 (for example): in memset A and B still are 7.
If I set channel1(empty) to PL=8: A is still 7, but B is 8 now.
If I set ch0&ch1 to PL=8: the same as prev - A=7, B=8.

1.3625 is the max recommended from Intel. I have a poor batch E8400 and use all of that to stay stable at 3.8 GHz.
