Has anyone tried a QX9650 with the new BIOS or Larywild's modded 2004?
Any results?
This thread is interesting read it here.
This is regarding 4 sticks of ram and the P5W DH
Hi people, first post here.
I've had this mobo for over a year now, no big problems until recently. First suspend to ram stopped working. The power led wouldn't blink as usually and it wouldn't turn on with the power button unless I cut the power from my PSU and turned it back on.
Now I'm having difficulties just booting up normally. I had accidentally left the system without power (as in, PSU switched off) for a night after fiddling with it. It wouldn't start, no beeps, nothing. I also tried clearing the CMOS. I already gave up and left the machine alone, a few minutes later the computer boots up by itself. I'm not using any timed wakeup settings or such.
Any idea what's going on, or is my mobo just busted? My bios is 1602.
you might try clearing cmos my pulling battery put cmos jumper to 2m3 and replace battery with new one hope this helps
Rich
PSU bad ?
Might as well be (one of) your memorysticks gone bad.
Try booting with just one and raise Vdimm a notch.
Thanks for the replies. I kept the system powered and it booted up without problems this morning. Everything else seems to work reliably. I played Quake Wars for a few hours last night. :) No crashes, so it seems it's just the mobo acting up. Changing the battery sounds like something to try, but should it matter if the board is getting power from the PSU?
By the way, I'm running stock at the moment. I might go OC again when I need the extra heat for winter :p:
yes unplug ps before changing the battery it will clear cmos again

Im interested to see how the QX9650 performs on this board with the 12 X multi. It could be a great upgrade in six months when the price comes down on these processors. Low power consumption. If someone can borrow one to plug into this board for a trial I'd love to see the overclock potential.
If you wait long enough, Nehalem will be there to buy instead...
Hello, My Spanish is bad, and my English is worst.
I have 4x1 Mushking XP2 5300 (666 / 3-3-3-10 / 2,1-2,2V)
With 340FSB they run at 4-4-4-10, 1,95V with no other Overvoltages.
With 350FSB they run at 4-4-4-10, 2,05V with no other Overvoltages.
With 375FSB they run at 4-4-4-10, 2,20V with MCH at 1,65 (1.03g) and CPU at 1,32V.
I cant make more than 375 with any other configuration unless I put SPD in AUTO.
The MB can´t post with 380FSB with 6-6-6-18 2,2V and Overvoltage in FSB/CPU/MCH
But with SPD in AUTO (5-6-6-18) with MCH at 1,65 and CPU at 1,32V, at 380FSB its fully stable (+6 hours blend Orthos) with only a 1,8V in memory. And if I use memset I can make 5-4-4-10 (I cant change CAS in Memset) at 1,8V at 760 (380FSB) with any Orthos error.
But if i put in manual, I need 2,05V at 700 (350FSB) with the same timmings.
I reprogramed the SPD (4-4-4-12 at 400FSB) of two sticks (the other two are off the computer) and reset CMOS, but the motherboard detect the same timmings.
I need to know How I can correct this problem, to have a good FSB with good timings and a razonable voltage.
Thanks.
Hi, I'm in a dilemma. I currently have obtained the following:
SL9UL 2.66 GHz QX6700 B3
But can get one of the below in exchange for the above:
SLACR 2.40 GHz Q6600 G0
My motherboard is the Asus P5W DH Deluxe (obviously, since I'm here). Which one would you want? Keep the QX6700 or opt for the cooler G0. I plan on overclocking. Currently I have the QX6700 running @ 333.33 x 10 with the Corsair Nautilus 500. Runs quite warm when loaded. Would I be able to overclock just as much with the Q6600? What's the FSB wall for the quadcores? I had trouble getting over ~380FSB with my dual core E6600 when I had that.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

hey guys, has anyone plugged 8800GT in this board.
A friend of mine is having weird issue.
The board PCI express slot works in X1 mode instead of X16 with 8800GT.
And hence his card performance is pathetic with close to 3.6k 3dmark06 score and :banana::banana::banana:ty FPS in games.
Fresh install, drivers, bios everything has been tried.
Backup X1300 works just fine in X16 mode ( checked with GPUZ)
Good Nehalem article Mikepaul. Sounds like a big step forward in boosting memory performance. If the on die memory controller is running, won't that make the northbridge on older chipsets like this one redundant? Hard to imagine a bios upgrade will sort out the double memory controller issue. There is a rumor that the nehalem may be made in two models ie. with and without the memory controller. http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/24...-compatibility
If it is compatible with the 975 chipset would the Nehalem still use 1066 or 1333 FSB like on the p5wdh?
Seems to have fallen off Asus latest 45nm support list. :(
Hey guys,
I recently Flashed my Bios to the latest 2304 version, and my CPU fan now only goes at 250rpm max. Where as before it use to go to 1500rpm.
I have the TT 120 Ultra eXtreme, with an Arctic 7 120mm fan attached to it.
Anyone know of a fix?
i cant downgrade form 2206 to 2004, it says that bios is too old. i tried from bios and dos but both didnt help. what can i do ?
What a strange problem.
Well, one possibility is to connect the fan directly to the PSU rather than to one of the headers on the motherboard (or through a fan controller). Alternatively, you could try one of the other headers on the motherboard. You would need to disable the warnings for CPU fan in BIOS with either of these solutions.
I've done much investigating with this board and Quads. As it's a 975x mobo the FSB wall is generally between 340 - 360 depending on luck.
I can run my Q6600 G0 at 355 X 9 max but it causes the onboard audio to freak out from time to time- causing a horrible high pitch whine.
It should definitely run 333 x 9 completely stable.
Thanks for the replies, I figured it out. IT was the CPU Q fan option. I changed it to performance mode and it now is up to speed. Just a question though, if i were to disable it, what happens?
Then your cpu fan will run at full speed all the time.
Is that a bad thing?? Its not noisy at all, in fact i cant even hear it at 1500rpm....
It's not a bad thing. If you're happy with the noise levels, then it will keep the cpu a tad cooler and use a tad more power.
Good spot by w2richwood - I didn't think of the Q-fan function causing the problem.

it may its not out yet
yeah i dont understand the p5b.s are on there but not the p5w dh
All the 975 mobos have been bumped off the list but they are not alone, go read about the recent hooha about the nVidia chipset mobos and Yorkfield support too.
Meanwhile, we can only hope P5W makes it back somehow.
i'm not gonna complain p5w dh has served use well it's lived a long live thru many upgrades so i'm happy with it

Just tried it out today, no problem at all.

Can this mobo handle 4gb of ram well and how far can it oce a Q6600?
I am currently running my Q6600 G0 with 4GB of G.Skill DDR2800 HZ ram @ 380FSB and x8 multiplier, it use to be @ 355 and x9, 1:1 on both configuration ... I am sure this is all becuz of the active cooling I had on the NB/SB ;)
Tried 2406 BIOS. No new BIOS options, however this BIOS for me is really bad, as I couldn't overclock at all. Anything I tried for manual settings didn't work and machine wouldn't boot.
I'm now back on 2403 and running at 3.0Ghz on a E6600 with CPU Vcore = 1.325v, mem = 2.1v and memory running with 4-4-4-12 timings.
Guys I am considering using the onboard sound I am currently using a xi-fi
my reasons are.
some sound quality issues I still get some minor crackles even tho using unshared pci port etc.
creative bloat installed.
Does the onboard sound have as good sound quality for things like movies and music as well as good support for surround sound also does it have eax support for concert hall affects on music etc.
Anyone have a picture of a Asus P5W Dh Deluxe with a 40mm fan cooling at NB or SB ????
How does it work? my motherboard is about 40c now.
What's holding the 40MM fan to the NB heatsink?
I'm looking for extra air for when it gets warmer again...
I'm fairly sure you can just screw a fan directly onto the nb heatsink. The spacing of the fins is generally sufficient to hold the screws.
I will not get tired of saying that the latest from Creative is an overhyped an overprice bad quality product.
Dude, if you want quality without sacrificing CPU cycles, go with the REAL soundcards from Azuentech, Blugears, or anything that has a C-MEDIA chip 8788. I can assure you won't regret it, and you'll be free form BSODs.
Creative is going downhill, and the only thing saving it is the merkethyped EAX.
Even ASUS has gone a step forward and carry the first PCI-E soundcard on the market.
I made a new record for myself with a Quadcore Q6600 and the Asus P5W DH Deluxe.
Its running @ 3,5Ghz 9x389 Multiplier Vcore 1,48 in bios, and 1,42 in windows
This is on air with a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro (not Lapped) Room temps around 22 a 24c
Have only test my memory to get it lower than 5.5.5.15
Becource it can be lower.
Here a screenshot of mine.

 Good Stuff, what Bios are you running on? How much did you give the other voltages?
I've upgraded my Bios to 2403 but haven't had a chance to play with it yet, just to see if I can squeeze any more out of it.
[QUOTE=Lurker246;2589656]Yeah thanks.
I have the Bios from Lawrywild 2004 G0 with 45 mn support.
It works great..
I have set the FSB Termination to 1,40 volts
Set the MCH chipset to 1,65
and let the ICH set to AUTO.
Memory are on 5.5.5.15 but i'm testing it on 4.5.5.15 and have more perfomerance with the memorytest in Everest ultimate Edition..
I gonna make screenshots stressed and iddle but i dont have time for it now..
Hope that the 8 Phase Design hold it, becource if i feel it with my hands, its verry verry verry hot. (feeling about 80c) Stressed only.
but the chipset and cooler are cold, only the 8 phase power around the CPU are verry hot.
Is that is not a problem ??
I wanted to know if this ram will work with this board?
Kingston
1 GB PC2-8000 SDRAM 240-pin DIMM DDR2 Memory Module - HyperX Series
or
OCZ Technology Group
2 GB ( 2 x 1 GB ) - PC2-8000 / 1000 MHz - DIMM 240-pin - 2 x 1 GB DDR2 Dual Channel Is it even worth it with a E6700,currently running @ 3.0ghz, with 2GB PC2-4200 533MHz 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM but I can't seem to raise my overclock past 3.02 ghz without the system giving me a ram timing issue and shutting itself down.
If these don't work, what would be the best in the 800 MHz range, that I wont need to upgrade later.
System used to be stable @ 4x900 with 4x1GB@4.4.4.12. I upped voltages, provided more cooling, whatever bios I use, looser timings, it's only stable @ 4x389. Any idea why my board clocks worse all of a sudden?
[QUOTE=Lurker246;2592055]Yeah it is.
My temps are with room temps 22 a 24c and the CPU are stressed around 66 70c
I dont have used the 2403 bios.
I'm still on the Lawrywild's 2004 bios G0 Edition with 45mn support.
It works great..
I'm now testing my memory to get it to it lowest..
If i done that i post some screenshots stressed @ 3,5ghz on air with a Arctic Freezer 7 Pro.. (not lapped)
Okay here a stressed screenshot with Prime95 Small FFt's
This are a Q6600 @ 3,5 1,4875 in bios and 1,42 stressed.
This with the Asus P5W DH Deluxe..
You know a Quad doesnt clock so high on a P5W DH.
but i get it on AIR with Arctic Freezer 7 Pro (not lapped)
Room temp at stress are 20c and fans @ full speed..
Here the bios settings:
Bios 2004 by Lawrywild.
FSB: 389x9 1:1 @ memory DDR2 800 Kingston HyperX CL4
Vcore in bios: 1,4875
FSB Termination: 1,40
MCH Chipset: 1,65
ICH: set to AUTO.
Memory voltage are 2,10 volt.
No EIST or C1E enabled of cource :P
Are this a nice clock or not ?
I use this overclock not for 24/7 but for benchmark.
I think i set it to 3,3Ghz for 24/7 becource i think (feel) its better

hello
why my system crash after the bootlogo from xp?
i have 4GB of this rams
2x -> Corsair XMS2 DIMM Kit 2048MB PC2-6400U CL4-4-4-12 (DDR2-800) (TWIN2X2048-6400C4)
the voltage is on 2.1 and the timings 4-4-4-12. thats from corsair and i have this also in bios.
Been following this thread (bud didn't read it all) since I bought a P5W 1.5 years ago, and only recently had done all the cooling mods, and thought that I could hit 3.3GHz easy, but to my surprise I can't get to 370MHz fsb with any ammount of voltage. The system will post, but windows won't boot.
Also very interesting is that when I get close to 370fsb, bios and windows only detect 1 core (CPU-z and all other software report only 1 core)
My settings:
Ram divider is 1:2, voltage 2.0, timings set to: configure by SPD
Hyper Link Disabled as well as all other auto overclocking features
All CPU thermal features set to disabled
From here I just bump the fsb/vcore to get a stable system:
350Mhz @ 1.4vcore = OK
360Mhz @ 1.42vcore = OK
365Mhz @ 1.42vcore = windows booted OK, 1 core detected  , stopped Orthos after 30min
370Mhz @ all the way up to 1.51Vcore, bumped MCH, ICH and FSB termination one step above default, also tried 2.1v memory = Post OK, BSOD on windows boot
I am very disappointed, I spent the last 3 days hacking and sawing custom heatsinks for all the MOSFETs around the cpu, also replaced the northbridge cooler with a Zalman one, and installed 3 12cm Nexus fans blowing quite a lot of air. Also replaced everything with AS5. All temps have dropped, and the heatsinks on the MOSFETs that are located under the heatpipe on a stock mobo, and above the cpu socket, get quite hot (~42C measured with a thermocouple), which indicates a good thermal conductivity, and these MOSFETs didn't have any cooling from the factory
The only part I didn't give proper attention is the southbridge (I couldn't get the heatsink off to lap it, considering that I replaced the thermal paste to AS5 3 weeks ago  It somehow glued together... )
Also before all of my mods I had a chance to switch to a brand new rev 1.04g board, so I did. The BIOS version is 2206
There are so many good people on this thread, so I hope you can give some hints on what is causing the problem, because I really wanted to get 3.33GHz stable after all the effort I put in...
More details on my rig are in my signature...
Any advice appreciated!
Do you recommend the Memory Remap feature to be off or on (As stated in the bios) when running Vista 64 w 4Gb Memory.
does it even make any difference with that setup?
If it is set to disabled, your mobo won't recognize more than 3072MB, and so won't Vista.
OMG, I tried reverting from bios v 2206 to an 1506 using 2 different afudos versions (the one posted by lwarywild, and the one from the asus website) and each one gives me an error: BIOS does not support AFU
WTF?!?
I'm beginning to get frustrated here  , has anyone experienced something like this?
UPDATE: Tried downloading the AFUDOS v4.xx utility from ami.com same problem
Try using ASUSUpdate and set the options to 'allow downgrading bios'.
I have not had problems flashing BIOS with this utility.
Thanks for the advice,
after some research I pinned down the problem:
My motherboard uses a WINBOND W39V080FA ROM chip, and it is somehow incompatible with AFUDOS.
The asus update gives me an error:
"BIOS image can't use in this motherboard. (The EEPROM Type incompatible)"
I aslo tried the awdflash utility which states to support the winbond chip used in my mobo, bud with no success, as it keeps telling me the: bios is not award bios, even when I use the "don't check for compatibility" flag
It seems the Hothardware got a Yorkfield running on a P5W64WS which is also a 975 board, so there might be hope for the p5w dh as well :-)

Ok everyone, I've been getting lockups lately and so far my best guess is that it's because of my bios version. I'm using 2403.
I bought 2x2gb sticks of ddr2-1000 from g.skill and the system didnt read all of it. I was ignorant and thought it was a bios issue so I flashed from 1901 to 2403. I could never get the sticks stable to I put my old 2gb in and I'm sending the 4gb back.
Prior to flashing to 2403, my system would run orthos stable for over 12 hours and now, orthos shuts the computer down after about an hour. This morning I woke up, turned my monitors on, opened up team speak, connected, started to broadcast to my friends, and the system froze. It's frozen a few times now.
I also recently purchased an 8800GT, which might be a cause, but I dont see how since it passes visual stress tests for over 12 hours.
Is 2403 unstable at all? Is 2004 ok for EVERYONE? I just built a system for my little brother using the same motherboard, but his still has the 1901 bios chip in it. Would it be ok to put my 2403 into his system when his is not overclocked at all?
im running bios 2403 no problems make sure you have your ram timing right and the volts
Rich
Well if you're running ok, perhaps its an 8800gt issue. I bought a preoverclocked card (its all newegg had available at the time) and now I'm thinking its freezing the system. But again, the video card passes the video stress tests.
I have noticed some freezing in game which requires a restart though.
my pus is a 700w ocz gamerXStream
Does anyone have a JPG that shows where to measure the Vcore on this board?
Hi guys,
Does this board support four gig of RAM? I have four gigs installed but the bios only reports 3200 upon boot.
If I go into the bios, it lists this.
Total: 4096
Appropriated 896
Available: 3200
Am I pretty much hosed is there some way to unleash the rest of the RAM?
Thanks in advance.
If you have a 32-bit OS installed it will report only 3 gigs of ram. That doesnt mean you cant use all 4 gigs, it means you can only use 3 gigs per aplication.
To "unleash" the rest of the ram you need to install a 64-bit OS.
EDIT: If you are already using a 64-bit os, then enable the memory remap function in the bios.
It doesn't. It means that Windows will allow 2 full GB to the application, which is impossible (of course) with only 2GB RAM installed. With 4 GB, XP 32-bit will see and use 3.2 GB, no more.
Source http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tec...lt.aspx?loc=en
EDIT: here's another link: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555223Quote:
Windows and the applications that run on it have bumped their heads on the address space limits of 32-bit processors. The Windows kernel is constrained by default to 2GB, or half the total 32-bit virtual address space, with the other half reserved for use by the process whose thread is currently running on the CPU. Inside its half, the kernel has to map itself, device drivers, the file system cache, kernel stacks, per-session code data structures, and both non-paged (locked-in physical memory) and paged buffers allocated by device drivers.
Well thanks for clearifying. I was told its 3 gig per app but it seems i need to slap the one who told me that. :P
In order to fully utilize 4GB ram, you MUST be using Windows XP 64bit/Vista 64bit. Next you need to enable "Manual" overclocking mode in the BIO then enable "Memory Remap Feature". Then you will see 4GB ram in boot screen and Windows.
Steps:
1) BIO > JumperFree Configuration > AI Overclocking > [Manual]
2) BIO > Advanced > Chipset > Memory Remap Feature > [Enabled]
Has anyone used this board with E6750? This board won't overclock well past 3.2ghz with any voltage. In addition, to get it to 3.2ghz stable I needed 1.425vcore.
2406 bios clocks very badly at my old board.
Does this board oce well with 4gb of ram?
Hello fellowmodders.
Yesterday my voltmodded P5W died.
When I took a close look at the board I saw the volt. regulator at dimm 3 was burnt.
Also the Cap. near de vdroop mod did not seem well.
The red arrows in the pic point out the 2 components.
Can any of you guru's tell me what replacement components I can put there?
