Yes, sure ;) I can do 4.6GHz HT On & Off too.
Contrary to what people think HT On is even easier than HT off for some settings.
You saw on the LinX club Screenshot I get 66GFlops and max temperature 79°C ?
Now look at this fast one pass demo screenshot with HT On (I can do 20 passes if you really want...).
I get less GFlops and surprise: it's even 6°C cooler :p
So yes it was my choice to go for HT Off at 4.5GHz. I have yet to see an application I use that will give me faster results with HT on.
4.6GHz will give me '1' additional GFlops for like 5°C more so that was not interesting for me.

Dynamic load balancing was one of my thesis subjects and if I was to do the algorithm myself: yes I might use it then ;)
But seeing the current performances of the load balancing with 2 threads per core combined with multi-cores makes me sad.

if you are doing just 35 Gflops @ 4.5ghz ht on, something is wrong with your oc imo.... i do 55 Gflops at 4.4ghz...

I just wanted to show a result rapidly but indeed I would need to tweak the settings for better HT performances but in the end I would still be below 66 GFlops.
Only setting I changed on this fast screenshot was HT On...
And the 6°C was kind of a joke ;) It might be a bit higher temps or not after tweaking but it was too tempting to show a lower temperature: sorry ! :p:

I mainly wanted to explain that the HT Off was a personal choice here after a few days of benchmarking/stressing my new rig and not because I couldn't get a stable system with hyper-threading.

PS: I don't even know if Windows/Nehalem has any form of 'dynamic' load balancing. I doubt it.

Keep in mind that linpack is not meant for HT and the official documentation states that it should be disabled when using linpack. You will get lower performance with HT on when using it.

Hey unclewebb, any word from ASUS on a proper working BIOS for the P6T Deluxe V2 that fixes throttling? Or have they given up on us?

+1 IM mainly a gamer or a simple web surfer ... so HT is purely useless for me.

I haven't contacted Asus because the first reports said that bios 0001 didn't work for the P6T v2 and then recent feedback said that it was working just fine even at high voltage and MHz settings.

Give 0001 a try and post some results.

^ I can confirm that 0001 works with the P6TD, so I'd guess it's backwards compatible with the other P6T line.

I did go back to 0209 though (latest an ASUS site) as it allows lower voltages, by 2 steps, at 4200mhz.

Give 0001 a try and post some results.

What's wrong with P6T Deluxe V2 and bios 0006 ? It looks perfect for my current setup.
Let me know if you need any log or other info for Asus.
The throttling at 4.5GHz when reaching 72°C with bios 0610 was obvious before I crossflashed to 0006.

nkresho, how much vcore do you need at 4.2Ghz and 4.4Ghz? I have the same batch then yours. im just curious :rolleyes:

Here's my 10 test stability screenie...

I had to up them to 1.33125 to get 20 tests of Lin-X out of it.

I didn't save a screen shot but I did do 4305 at 1.38750v cpu and 1.350v QPI. The memory was only at 1233, so I didn't leave it there for too long (should be 1600).
My 4305 test was under bios 0006, so the voltages could be a tad lower with a newer one. But, under 0209 I had throttling at 4305, so 0006 was my only option.

I got into windows at 4400, and got lin-X to run at that speed, under 0006 bios, but I had a test halt due to error at 3mins 43 sec. Cpu was at 1.41250 and QPI was at 1.38750. Too high for my comfort, so I backed it to 4200 and left it.

I wish they'd come out with a newer, non throttling bios for my board. (Asus, can you hear me?) But, i'm not holding my breath.

thats kind of my voltage for 4.4ghz, i need 1.41875v of vcore and 1.33125 qpiv. at 4.2ghz i need 1.30000v vcore and 1.31250 qpiv. havent tested more then 30m of linx and a run of occt tho.

Also, I'm not sure where it is, but I followed a guide someone linked to from the evga forums and found my max bclk to be 222. It was at 1.33750v QPI. So it's looking like the ceiling for my chip would be 21x222 or 4662mhz.

I just dropped the multi to 17, dropped the ram to the lowest divider and went to town.

Following that test, I was able to get 4200mhz (21x200) (Lin-X using 4096mb) stable at 1.33125 core and 1.3125 QPI (compared to my other results... a little higher core and a little lower QPI).

Since I don't really like the 0006 bios (requires a tad more vcore), I'm left 0209 and with a max stable speed of 4200 at 21x200 (or 19x222 with a max of 4218).

Since I can keep my ram at 1600, I'll keep the 21 multi for now. Might look into some 1800mhz ram so I can play a bit in the 19 multi though. I know it's really not worth the effort though for 200mhz.

One of the reasons that bios 0006 requires more core voltage is because it is not throttling like some of the other bios versions. If you CPU is running at a higher average MHz with bios 0006 then that might be the reason why you require more voltage when using it.

Run i7 Turbo when testing bios 0209 to make sure at full load you are not throttling.

Most users are happy with 0006 so I don't see the need for 0001 for the v2 boards. Just use 0006 if you want to be 100% sure that your CPU doesn't do any throttling at full load.

Yup, i'm not throttling until 4300mhz. I ran i7turbo with fully loaded lin-X at 4200 to check.

I might flash back to 0006, again, once I get the itch back. For now i'm fairly content w/ it. I can keep the voltages a good deal lower as it (w3520) doesn't scale well voltage-wise over 4200.

OK received my RAM. Only few question.

Can make it run 2ghz with 9-9-9-24 1.62 volts. Maybe i have to be sure its 2t at other settings.

Currently running 1600 same timing 1T. LinX MAX mem stable. Ill tweek it tomorow....

X58 is really tricky. Nearly everything is linked among the different frequency and voltage parameters.
But at 1600Mhz (4.2GHz cpu) you should be able to use 7,8,7,21,1N @1.64v (or even less voltage) or even 6,7,6,18,1N @1.66v (might need higher voltage in this case).
I didn't have to use 2T for the different cpu overclocking I tried.

200x20 for 4ghz and 1600mhz ram.

In order to acheive 2000mhz RAM, do i need to increase the QPI/Dram ?

My factory settings are supposed to be : 2000 9-9-9-24 2T @ 1.6v

The '20' multiplicator is not advised to get a stable overclock easily with the i7 920 (unless you add Turbo).
Go for 19 or 21.

e.g.:
21 x 191 (4GHz)
DRam Freq: 1914
Uncore Freq: 3829
QPI Link Freq: 6893
DRam Timings: 8,9,8,24,1N @1.64V (maybe more needed but seems ok here).
Then you got to find the voltages for your board/cpu as it's never the same.

THX alot. Its currently rock solid with 20x200 but ill try it like you said. The only volts that kinda mystify me is the QPI/Dram. I need to raise it to get my ram to run faster ?

Yes, that is generally correct. Higher RAM frequencies requires higher uncore frequencies with the P6T. Higher Uncore frequencies require higher VQPI. Also, higher RAM frequency often requires higher BCLKS which also requirer higher VQPI.

IM currently on the process of tuning the timing with this memory speed. And i want to run the Vmem as low as possible.
My current Speed/timing/Vdram isnt bad at all after an afternoon of tuning. Ill be back later with maybe better timing/Vdram.

As the intel spec is 1.65V i dont want to run at this Vdram ... I really want to have the best Speed/Timing/Lifespan possible.

That is weird, i run my setup 20*180MHz @ 1.176V, LinX stable.

But when I tried lower the multi, and hit higher BCLK, like 18*200MHz, even @ 1.2500V on cpu or more, and QPI 1.4000V, while ram running at 1600MHz, I coudnt get it stable...
During LinX, rig just locks up.
No BSoD or reboot, just hard lock up...
So I am attached to multi 20...
