No need to be a wise as...
I play at 1920x1200, i only have one screen, and ofc no, the 3870 wouldnt like it much at that resolution.
hummm I must say though, even my OC'ed 5970 struggles to give me what I want out of tri-monitor setup, (2GB only) hopefully Cayman does really come with 2GB followed by 4 on Antilles, then it will be more than worth it.
64 pages of theory crafting ... well not bad ^^
It's not that surprising to hear. I had two 5850s overclocked in excess of 900MHz core that couldn't do BFBC2 at respectable framerates at 4800x1200 like I wanted. Well, fps went up but it didn't help at all. 40-50fps felt like 20-25. Other games seem to play a lot better with frame timing in crossfire than does BC2.
So yes, I totally get where you're coming from when your two 6850s don't get what you're after.
Here is what some close to AMD people say HD 6970 performance:

Compared to 5970 it is 20% faster, while in tessellation - 3-4 times.
It will be released on 13 of December. "
I'll believe it when I see it.

russian info = no leak, but more rumor
So it's 2.5 times faster than 6870 but 20% faster than the 5970? I don't think that adds up... but it also said "at high resolutions", and considering 6970's RAM advantage it could very well be the case...
if it's 20% faster than 5970 at normal times, though... WOW!!!!
I suspect that the 20% over the 5970 would be tessellated games. And in non DX11 games it would be lower, probably on par or under the 5970?
But yeah... i'll get excited when i see something in stone.
20% faster than HD 5970 is VERY HARD to believe but if true it would be nice upgrade from my HD 5970 plus it also has much improve tessellation and 1GB GDDR per chip more.
Even if true I most likely will wait for the Antilles.
Well the tesselation is an xfactor
The brute power of the 5970 gets it by in a lot of DX11 games, but if Cayman is roughly 5970 speeds already, then the new tesselation may well push it far over the edge
Maybe when they said "Compared to 5970 it is 20% faster, while in tessellation - 3-4 times." they meant the tessellation factor?
It's lost in translation for sure. Need someone who can read Russian
He saying that 6990 faster then 5970 for about 20%, and in 3-4 times where tesselation is used.

BS?
Lol, just realized how old that :banana::banana::banana: is. Nevermind.
Cayman rumors come by so fast that anything more than 24 hours old is already out of date
