anyone with bloomfeild do not update bios after 802
It's rather sad that u need different boards for different processors with Asus. R2E for Bloomfield and R3E for Gulftown...
#1 world record for i920 is on r3e
#4 world record for i920 is on r3e

The board does great blck if you have it set to slow mode, but that is only good for spi and validations.
Warning, noob question incoming...
::sigh::
What's the best way to flash your mobo BIOS? ::ducks::
here's another noobish question >.<
either i'm blind or just retarded... but where exactly is the QPI LLC jumper at? i've looked all over on this damn thing and don't see anything with that labeling... i'm GUESSING it's the QPI_LL_SW jumper just next to the 24pin right? i haven't touched jumper settings in a LONG time so i didn't want to change something not being 100% sure of what it was i was changing.
i'd like to enable it and see if i can get 4.5-5ghz range on the 980x on water be stable. right now i've gotten between 4.5 and 4.75 with 1800 on 6 sticks of memory. it boots at these settings but it's not prime stable so i'd like to try and see if the QPI LLC will stabelize it a bit.
ZOMGZ i love the 980x
prime 95 times cut in half compared to the 930 and 06 bench mark scores went from 25-26k average to 30k and still climbing.
currently at 4.65ghz with mem at 1854mhz (6 sticks) and have LOADS of headroom still...
much better than the PEAK i was able to get at 4.4ghz with mem at 1680 OR 4.3ghz with mem at 1700 (930 was so locked down i couldn't do anything higher).
How about this, EZ Flash 2 - the safest way to update BIOS
Some may agree with this some may not, in my case when I use EZ flash, I intitially reset all o/c settings to default, then shut down and disconnect all drives (inc' usb external) then restart with only thumb drive connected, this way EZ flash finds the drive straight away without searching for the file on all other storage devices.
Flash the bios, re-set your o/c , all done.
works 4 me :-)
alright, i need some brain storming ideas.
i'm using the 980x now and did get increased results all around but i still seem to be hitting a similar wall that i was with the 930.
currently i can run 4.5ghz, 1800mhz mem @ CL6 (6-8-6-24-72) timings. this IS an improvement over the 4.3ghz, 1700mhz mem @ CL7 (7-8-7-24-72) timings using the 930...
at this point, CPU speed isn't my issue, it's trying to get the memory speed faster.
according to ROG connect, bios will boot through upto 1900mhz but windows will crash... understandable and can be worked around eventually... the problem i see though is as soon as i push it past 1900 to 1950 and 2000, RC poster detects memory but hangs on CPU regardless of what clocking it's at, even at stock clocks.
my settings:
vCore - 1.375v (stable at above mentioned stable clocking, i've tried upto 1.5v)
uncore - left auto (i've tried manually setting based on mem speed, still no luck)
data link - left auto (i've tried bringing this up just a tad but any time i do windows crashes)
DRAM - 1.643v (tried upto 1.675v)
QPI - 1.375v (tried upto 1.5v)
PLL - left auto
Ratio - 30x150 (many other combos worked for above mentioned stable clocking, but no luck for 2000mhz)
C1E - disabled
TM - disabled
Memory timings - 6-8-6-24-72 (i've tried loosening upto 10-10-10-24-88)
QPI LLC - enabled
OC power - X power
LLC - full calibration...
funny thing is... ya i'm trying for 2000mhz on mem but the 980x seems to be hitting a wall at 4.65ghz... or either it's the CPU or it's windows just not accepting it... regardless if i use 1600mhz on the mem as stock speed or OC it... the anything over 4.5ghz here just isn't booting...
any thoughts at all?
like i said, i can go 4.5ghz, 1800mhz mem stable... and i KNOW the cpu can go higher. it's temps are 30*c idle and 59-60*c 100% load w/ HTT turned on but i simply can't get it to boot any higher than 4.5.
Some numbers with multimeter
bios(our set) - windows(pc probe) - idle(multimeter) - load(multimeter)
CPU 1,375 - 1,360 - 1,387 - 1,390 (llc auto)
CPU PLL 1,81525 - 1,81 - 1,844 - 1,840
QPI/DRAM 1,53125 - 1,51 - 1,536 - 1,527 (with jumper for qpi/llc)
DRAM 1.6562 - 1,65 - 1,683 - 1,680
Maybe all the r3e boards were not created equal, maybe some are much better clockers than others, maybe I didnt get a good board, maybe zsams didnt get a good board either, maybe I just got lucky with my other x58 board . I have not been able to get either of my 920's to clock as well on this board as on my other x58 without the use of slow mode. Everyone is entitled to post his/her own experience they had with the board, like most other things some will like it and some wont.
I hate to see someone spend hard earned money and pay top dollar for a board, like I did, when a lower priced board will do just as good a job and in some cases better when using bloomfield. I bought the board based on what others had to say about it in this forum, my experience was not what I had hoped for, thats not to say someone else may have a different experience or have better results.
Don't worry, you can't load non-matching profiles, BIOS doesn't allow. Tried it, just to be sure. :D
Well, I even tried flashing BIOS when OverClocked! Worked like a charm. ;)
Any more ideas how to abuse BIOS chip when you have two of them. :D
you can take any pos board and clock a bloomfeild or gulftown like mad on ln2 or dice
i got 2 920 cpus here that do 4.7+ linx stable and i cant even get 4.6 stable
show me 4.6 stable on this board
i dont give a :banana::banana::banana: about validation or sub zero
OK, i have an old bios on my R3E, I am also running a bloomfield, the W3570
So what is the best bios today, is it the latest or should i just stand pat
I think i am running 0704, i'll check it out when i get home later....
viper 704 was always great for me :) flashed to 860 last night seems to be no real difference
