Audio Drivers effecting overall performance
I think you just simply cached all the directory metadata in memory, which is why the second (and subsequent) time will be fast.[/QUOTE]
No they aren't cached, and this can be reproduced at any time, either with disabling the audio device / removing its driver, or disabling it in bios all together, all of these gets the same result = NORMAL fast computer and drive access.
Just try the simple test I gave in browsing folders, (u can later give the "start Navigating" its sound properties back and see the degradation in performance while browsing folders
The example above is just to illustrate the problem where the system tries to access both services simultaneously (e.g drive access, and the Audio "Click")

What I'm trying to do here is for more people to gather around this issues and pressure ASUS to get us a USABLE !!!! Driver, they are responsible for that although ADI is the one that writes the drivers, they will push them if we push Asus.
guys trust me, you have no idea how your computing experience will change once the audio drivers are fixed, this IMPACT the WHOLE SYSTEM PERFORMANCE!!!
AUDIO - Slow Boot issues. HUGE NEWS
Guys,
HUGE HUGE HUGE - sorry but i have to draw your attention as this is too important to miss for almost ANY P5B Deluxe owner.
I think I have some pretty big news :D
I will try to be as specific as I can (trust me it costs me my health...)
Ok here goes.....
Slow Boot time (number of blue bars going through etc...)In order to reduce the splash bars (other then disabling the HD AUDIO all together)
Go in the bios and make sure you place the FRONT PANEL AUDIO to HD AUDIO!! Not AC97 as probably 99% of us did.
After doing the above and booting into windows. The system senses there was an Audio change and asks for a reinstallation of the drivers.
I used hte Regular new 4570_DTS driver that are available on the ASUS website.
After that you will need to reboot.
* you will need to go again and define the speaker configuration (Quad speakers in my case) also i went to DTS TAB in sound max and unchecked everything and clicked one on DTS NEO. (This had to be done as my vocal sounded twisted in songs played).
Now I already felt things are a bit faster. And I run BOOTVIS optimization.
The Result was that the TOTAL boot time in Blue bars crossing is 8.3~ ! instead of the 11-12 i once had.
Now 4.5 bars is the HDD activity, afterwards it stops working while the blue bars continue to cross and overall after the 8.3-8.5 bars I'm in windows loading my startup programs.
still it aint perfect as we were able to get 4.5-5.5 with the HD AUDIO totally disabled in bios, but hey u have to allow some Audio drivers to load when the hardware is used so its normal it takes a bit longer.
But still I feel there is a VOID where there is no HDD activity at boot that is a result of the driver.
This might point someone at Asus in the right direction.
Regarding browsing folders in explorer
I re enabled the "click sound for START navigating" in the sound system to see how it is effected by my change.
I think I'm feeling things works much fast though not 100 perfect more like 75-80% better...again this is just a first impression, this might be normal, I'm not fully sure yet.
(hey you guys with NO on board sound cards, can you say how many crossing blue bars you get before windows starts ???? TIA)
Guys this is very fresh and preliminary , please report your experience too.
