A big player would be... maybe Nvidia devoting some of their software engineers to work with a project and develop a Cuda app with them. No, it's a separate project. GPUGrid is not a part of World Community Grid.
The BOINC client is capable of running multiple, unrelated projects including having separate projects on your CPU and GPU at the same time.

Just got my next cruncher online! Athlon X4 640. I have Bobsama to thank for suckering me into that by posting those deal links :shakes: :rofl: I think from here out I need to look at upgrading/replacing crunchers, not just adding. Like, replace the dual cores with quads (or better, heh I wish). Power usage may get too much otherwise. Electricity costs that annoying thing called money after all :p:

The one dual core, the parent's PC, I have no control over hardware-wise. It isn't my PC, I didn't pay for it, and for email and internet the dual core is enough for them. Nice thing is, even at full load with WCG that CPU runs pretty cool and quiet even with stock cooling. Parents like how quiet it is, I like that they allow me to run WCG on their PC. Doesn't affect their power bill enough to worry about either.

The other two, yeah, those I could do something about. But they cost me next to nothing to put together (the one is actually an HP machine). I know I could easily drop a 775 quad into the one, but I don't think the HP is very upgradable, so that I'd probably see about fixing the chassis issues and selling it (that's why I got it for nothing, the chassis is damaged a bit). Not sure how sellable the gigabyte 775 board is on the one because its got a memory latch missing on one of the slots, and the PCIe latch missing. That's how I got it free as well :p:

My i7-930 has run all week with core temps about 80C. Stable as Plymouth Rock!
I figure that if they say 70C is the max you're supposed to run it at, there's some margin built in there! It's no fun if you're not playing in the grey.

I've been running a 920 at 90C for over 13 months now... Still crunching strong so 70's nothing to worry about.

Of all the...dang it. my 16 core AMD was stuck. BOINC was stuck not uploading, just sitting there, with a huge list of WUs. Had to restart the system and it uploaded them all :rolleyes:

And I got the Kill-A-Watt out and measured what all my rigs currently are pulling... uh, yeah, 970W. BUT that also means I'm not close to popping the breaker so I can add one or both of these extra machines on if I can get them working :up: Don't know about running them the entire time afterward, given the power I'm using, but we'll see.

Would it be worth the time to take my 4x4.0Ghz Xeon down, quickly insulate the board, and hook up my cascade for the rest of the week? I've never had the chip under phase change but I would think 5.5 GHz at least...

imho I don't think there's enough of the week to catch up the lost time. If you want to do that for other reasons then that's up to you, of course, but I just don't think it will wok out better for only a couple of days.

Got the e8500 up and running. Board seems a little funny getting to POST on a cold startup, but once running it seems OK.

Farm power usage = 1100W, and that doesn't include my main rig or my parents' PC (theirs doesn't count as I don't pay that bill :p:). I think last time I measured my main rig it was around 360W, so total is 1460W. Wow....

I did fire up a new machine today...a Q6600 on an Asus P5K-Deluxe, running on an acrylic bench. I started it crunching right before I left for work this morning, and it was still downloading tasks when I left. I also have a i7-950 and a R3F waiting for assembly.

You need to reduce the amount of cached work your system downloads. Sounds like its downloading X number of days of work but its not getting it done before the deadline...

I only cache 3 days and the priority work units are always due later than the units they are suspending ...... I really don't care it's just annoying :shrug:

The majority of work done on WCG isn't from the heavy hitters (though they put up some amazing numbers!), it's the huge number of normal folk running whatever they have.

Would love to stay and crunch but I don't pay the power bills around here, I'll be back next time we have another supercomputer week. Till then its been a great week, actually think I've help keep the basement a little warmer then usual too.
