It's not worth much.. besides the "pride" of the modder who manages to "tweak" a certain (incompatible) cooler onto the adapter/Dothan. :)
Today I'm gonna mount an Asetek Vaopchill micro 92mm onto one of my rigs.. mostly because I want to try it (must use Dremel to make mounting plate to clear the *idiotic* power/pin contacts on the CT479).
I guess the "clockability" for most Dothan (those that do not respond much to changes in VCore and "hits a wall" at a certain speed) is the same using stock cooler or an "über-cooler".
When you're using dry-ice or LN2 it's another scenario..

zalman 7000-alcu works wonders for me, easy to fit, good cooling, cheap

dothan doesnt output much heat, so alcu is fine rather than spending more for cu..

i fancied a 9500 cu LED on mine but out of my budget.. maybe i'll get one later..

I'm picking up a 9500 cu LED on monday... cheap.. from a guy who's switching to water-cooling..
I've wanted one of those from the first day a saw that 9500.. :p:
Guess one Dotan-rig will both look cool(er) and run cool(er).. :D

Got my Asetek Vapochill micro mounted on my P4P800-E Dlx + 740M tonight.
Cut a "rectangle" in the "holding plate" to clear power-pin/jumpers and slightly bent the clips (softer).
Works like a charm now..
The CPU will not clock any better even though the temps drop a few degrees compared to the Zalman 7000AlCu it replaced.
It looks "cool" though through my window-kit.. :cool:

Why not just remove the power clip, bend the jumpers back and foward til they fall off, then solder a new horizontal power connector and use conductive paint for the jumpers (actually I don't use the jumpers on mine). Much easier than cutting up a sink.

Didn't have time to reply, so sorry for the delay.

Your'e right basically, but as I said, Big-typhoon is already installed on my Northwood.
I can't purchase another cooler because I had to remove the black plastic off the socket, Meaning BT is the only cooler I can use :(

Has anyone else had problems running with memory timings set to 2-2-2-* in the bios. I can't boot anything past 225FSB nor can i use clockgen, it just suddently crashes. If i have the timings set to 2.5-3-3-6 and the clock gen higher, than use the 875 tweaker to adjust the timings i can run fine 250+ @ 2-2-2-6 however, it won't work if it is set in the bios.

I cant get to boot at 2 2 2 5 after 220Mhz, But I can at 2 3 3 5 and I can do 245Mhz with that setting. What do you have your VAGP set to... I dont want to set it higher than 1.6V since I hear I can damage my Vidieo Card..

So I am now on my third Pentium M. I started out with an OEM 730 that would bench up to 2.6GHz. Thats good but there is so much more. So I tried a retail 740. I couldn't even get it up to 2.5GHz. Now I bought an OEM 760 that I thought for sure would hit 2.7GHz but I can't even get it up to 2.6GHz.

I have tried using two motherboards; P4P800-E DLX and P4C800-E DLX.
I have tried with 2x512MB GeIL One TCCD and 2x512MB GeIL Value.
I only have one PSU, Enermax Noisetaker 370W.
I have only tried one adapter.

With the new 760 at 1.6V, I can boot at 15*171 for 2.56GHz. I can boot with 1.45V and hit 15*167 for 2.51GHz. It seems like the chip has a lot of room to grow. In comparison, my 730 won't go over 2.34 with >=1.55V.

Would the PSU or adapter cause something like this? I am at a loss.

Yes, 12x214 is the highest the 760 will go on the P4C800-E DLX.

I just changed the jumpers on the adapter from 533MHz to 400MHz and I got it to boot at 2604MHz. Testing for stability now. So far, it looks like another P-M is going up on eBay.

Do not be fooled by this.
Most newer? Dothans shows this behaiour.. They will OC at default VCore (almost) to the max they can take (on air/"standard" WC).
My first 740 M can run 2400(200x12) @ default.. With more VCore it can bench (not stable) @ any-combo-MP/FSB<2600. Increasing VCore over 1.50/1.52 has no effect.
I recently bought another 740 M (from a member on another forum).. It has the same behaviour.. but manages almost 2800Mhz @ 1.52VCore.. More VCore makes stabilty worse. (This is with Zalman HS).
Be prepared to waste quite a lot of money chasing for that "golden chip".

PS.
If you've got the money a "better" choise will be a 780. Those chips will usually hit 3Ghz with little effort.

Mine can do 230 x 12 with timings of 2 3 3 5. I got it to boot at 200 x 14 , but shortly after getting into windows it froze (Might be the Vagp). I have set the yumpers to 400 FSB and I did see a difference. I managed to boot at 245 X 11.

I keep it at 2730 Mhz 210 x 13 with timings of 2 2 2 5. What V core should I have at these speeds? Mine is set to 1.6V in Bios. I have also noticed that V core wont affect much the temperatures.

How does it do if you increase speeds in Windows via clockgen? One of my 730s did around 2.8GHz, but it would only boot at a low 2.6.

Clockgen has been doing weird things on this CPU. If I boot at around 2560 or so and try to adjust the clock DOWN, Windows freezes. I tried booting at a lower FSB and upping it with Clockgen but I can't get as high as I can by raising the FSB in the BIOS.

If you boot over 201MHz FSB and try after booting to windows go under 201MHz FSB, it surely will hang...

All installed, tried latest BIOS, but receive error message:

NEW CPU INSTALLED! Default Values etc...

I read that it could be bad contact - I may have to buy a new adaptor as it does have a corner pin missing :eek:

The voltage at which it's Prime stable(depends on CPU ,cooling,luck....)

Okay, sorted out the problem.

REF: NEW CPU INSTALLED and/or F1 to run setup, or F2 to load default values.

I had to make a new corner pin, and re-installed the adaptor. I guess this happens when there is a connection fault.

On first successful BOOT running at 200MHz and 2.6GHz with cooler off! :D
