Anyone other than EK have any blocks on the market for this card any time soon?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using Tapatalk
no benckmarks from EK with the blocks on a 290x this time :(
Please stop with non-sense comment and learn french. You'll see that people are not happy to see such a crappy reference cooler and a crazy power consumption.
AMD critized Fermi but now, they are on it. (Fermi was good overclocker though)
As you say, give up your red glasses look with your own eyes what you're are looking about : A hot power hog card with no margin and looks what nVidia can do in silence with mesurate power consumption and important OC capacbilities when you pass the 1.21v limit.
edit : And who cares about Titan ? 780 beats it since many months for way less money. Titan means nothing, it just show that GK110 has almost a year in advance compared to this opponent.
Thanks brother
Now do I grab a ref 290x or wait again for non-ref (Lightning)?
Im a water bencher, having owned a few vid cards now I tend to think that Lightning etc are great but tending towards overkill for water (except 680 with its green light limitations), Lightnings really suit world record persuit on LN . I have had great results with ref cards as long as you can get some volts into them, so volts + water + unlocked bios = benching fun.
But they did say they will do 1200+
:)
The worlds fastest card is 550$ !!! If you see anything else you must be stupid or something. I apologise but really man ....
and
you can easily spend 100$ some time later slap some monster 3slot 3fan cooler and OC .
Time to sell one lightning and get a 290x lightning aussie ... then later sell the 780 lightning and get 780 ti lightning !!
Would love to see a non reference 8GB overclocked card from one of their AIB's, which will probably happen soon enough.
Its hardly proven to be the worlds fastest. The max I have seen this thing clock is 1400ish and that's with liquid nitrogen. And that's not going to take down a 1800mhz + titan.
Even with regular models, gtx 780 and 290x at max overclocks are somewhere around the same speed. The gtx 780 overclocks further which makes up for the clock/clock deficiency.
In addition, he has a lightning which will likely favor the gtx 780 compared to the stock 290x.
Even without taking the noise into account and power, I think your getting the same speed. So it will be a side grade.
If you really want a 290x, wait for the after market version of the card with an upgraded PCB. You bought the lightning version of the gtx 780 for the reason and I think the 290x needs a lightning version even more to deal with the extreme power requirements.
Wait for a 290x lightning and I think you will have a lot more fun with your card without frying it.
I think selling the gtx lightning would be rash and you will just have wasted your money for the loss you would take on the lightning.
All very true mate, my concern is that NVidia already devalued my 780 Lightning when they announced the 780Ti so soon afterwards.
Anyway, this is the AMD thread so I am keen to try water on a pair of 290x's.
:)
290X has just launched, imagine when AMD starts optimizing Catalyst for Hawaii ;). Fun times ahead!
I do trust HARDOCP in game testing about 100% more than PCG any testing and I speak some german plus even if PCG is right and they only traded punches at 4K it still does make R9-290X 100% better deal. I'm not ready to pay $2000 for 2 Video Cards.
For me Titan was not worth $1000 about 8 months ago and definitely not now when it's dead.
There is no need for me to learn French, I did learn English as third language so I can read many more reliable reviews. I already explained why for me the R9-290X is by far the best deal, also I'm very sorry I can't take any advice from green glasses people. You also do not need to take any advice from me, but please note this is AMD video card thread.
Also GTX 780 did not beat Titan many months ago, actually it still does not beat it today. Just think a little bit, if you were right Nvidia would not need to announce GTX 780 Ti
IMHO, a comparison with Titan is not valid, since its not just a GPU. Its a cross between GeForce and Tesla, and that's why it mandates such a high price. If gamers bought it, its their problem, but nVIDIA always said that it is a special edition because of that.
The GTX780 should be the correct comparison. Granted, its still more expensive, but not double the price.
Making a comparison with Titan just serves to put the 290X in a better light than it really has.
An Oced GTX780 beats the crap out of Titan. nVIDIA is announcing the GTX780Ti because it will be faster than Titan itself, to beat/match the 290X.Quote:

PCGH is much more trustworthy than HardOCP. For starters, they document the way they test in detail, [H] does not.
Second, they warm up the cards to generate realistic load for Boost 2.0 and Powertune 2.0, [H] does not.
Third, most US sites now tested 290X in quiet and uber mode but neglected to loosen the reigns on Titan/780 as well. All Nvidia cards with Boost 2.0 have a 80C temperature target, Hawaii has 95C in both modes. If they test uber mode, they should also test with Nvidia power and temperature targets maxed.
The 290X is a decent card, but it is hardly any better than Titan if at all in terms of performance. Titans value has been killed by the 780 and its custom versions already and it is going to be EOL soon. The 780 Ti will be a much more worthy competitor for the 290X in terms of performance and especially value. I would wait at least until mid November (the custom versions of the 290X will be delayed until December anyway according to some news from today) for final judgement on this fall's cards.
You are missing the point. If a GTX780 with little OC beats Titan, a GTX780Ti (which is coming in mid-November, cut the crap about "who knows when) might possibly beat 290X.
Besides 290X is probably OC from default, to have such high temps. The card is being pushed to its limits to be where it is.
I hope ATI are working on 290xt !!! or is that too much to hope that they have something even faster by Feb 2014.
Don't tire yourself he will not understand what we are saying and he will continue to say that GTX 780 $650 card can't beat Titan $1000 Although we know all Reviews sites Said GTX 780 $650 with some OC can beat Titan $1000. But he will say no that card can't beat Titan and will say thanks AMD :D he forgot that who helped to put R9 290X price like this is NVIDIA new upcoming card Because announced before the launch of the R9 290X card so the competitor on the road and as we actually see R9 290X came with perfect Price Because of that too.
A) that was not the point, read my original reply and it was not directed towards "the last meal" so you're completely changing the topic for sake of an argument and I did not miss anything, maybe he did.
B) yes i did hear about GTX 780 Ti coming in the middle off November without any info about the card whats so ever. I have to admit I do have a little doubt about the date, unless Nvidia was working on the GTX 780 Ti long time before AMD announced the R9 cards. in that case I wonder what the card was supposed to replace and for how much.
Off course this is just my speculation and I'm going to be pleasantly surprised if we see GTX 780 Ti in stores around Nov 15
About OC by default LOL, guess new category for the reference card and the card can't be OC at all with proper cooling. I think this subject was already talk about in this thread many times over.
You're a lot mixed up what cards were announced first. It was the RT7, RT8 and R9 with lots off info. Nivdia reacted announcing the GTX 780 Ti with only info, it's going to be fast cool and quiet. So it was Nvidia reacting.
About pricing AMD traditionally keeps the prices lower, well at least most time.
Please read again before you call me again noob, thanks in advance. I did not say if OC GTX 780 can beat reference GTX Titan, I ONLY THINK , it's not the best comparison since TItan also overclock and i certainly was not defending Titan price.
Also please note this is AMD thread i do promise not to troll in GTX 780 Ti thread just for the sake off arguing.
Ok guys lets knock off the personal attacks. Consider this a warning because vacations will be issued next without warning.
Also let's stay on topic please.
