It was me- My dead board is RMA'd and on it's way back from TW (taiwan?). Anyways it will be good to have gross amounts of power again.

I should consider renaming this thread "dying review" :shakes:
maybe add a line in the intro, something like this :
Warning : Due to the many dead Z7S boards reported on XS, we can no longer recommend this motherboard. Move on or use at your own risk .
*Threadstarter cannot be held responsable for impending disaster
Just think of what kind of sick computer we could have built with 11 x $$ we spent on our individual systems. or even just on the MB..

So literally all Z7S-WS boards die? That's some major rape lol!
ASus returned my board in a locked state- buuut after researching this problem I see that ASUS boards have this common problem, ever since dual channel RAM.
I found a way to force the MB back to life- Pull ALL the RAM and boot- The MB THEN throws error beeps, turn off, place 1 stick back in, and reboot, I had to add the RAM one DIMM at a time.
Do you think the MB is losing it's ability to see the RAM? weird- oh well I'm back up, Oh- not the Power supply.

Mine died after a couple of days. I contacted Holland Asus (as that was the number provided by ANT online) and they promised to send me an RMA form immediately. A few days later after nothing happened, the same guy said he had actually forgotten about sending me the email, and this time he did send an RMA number. I filled it out including VISA card info just in case I decide to pull a fast one on them, but nothing. I have called back the Holland number and now it seems that they have an answering service that deals with non server motherboard issues. The email address where I got the RMA forms simply do not reply to my several emails. I am almost giving up on this. Anyone have any ideas how I can RMA this board and get one that works?
Interesting there ZIO, maybe pulling the ram resets something.
If we have another board die we'll have to get someone to try that.
Spiro, the way we are being treated is simply unacceptable. I think its time to go higher... i'm going to see if I can rustle some contacts up but feel free to try yourself as well.
Looks like I celebrated too soon :(
It's stuck in an FF loop again and booting without memory doesn't work anymore .
Back to the drawing board...
Add the asus thing in my sig to yours. If we cant contact the higher ups we can make them hurt a bit..
What a pos. I feel terrible for all of you guys. I do hope that Asus eventually sorts this out for you.
Mine's still running nicely, although I don't know for how much longer!
If it lasts me another 3 years I'll be happy and ready to buy something else...
Anyone looked at alternative setups that give the same number of fast-running physical (as opposed to logical) cores?
Asus is history for me period (and I'm not the only one, I guess).
So, now mine died, running 2x C0 Harper Quads.
Upgraded from 4x 2GB to additional 2x 4GB, total 12 GB a couple of weeks ago, perhaps that took it over the edge?!
Was working fine until Saturday. Powered up, RAM count, and suddenly the ugly smell of burnt electronics... Looks like the digital VRM went up in smoke! :(
Took a photo of the burnt area: http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/130/dsc01187j.jpg
RMA'ed to Ingram Micro AB in Sweden; hoping for a quick swap.
=[
This board must be a nightmare for Asus too. Oh well, serves them right for releasing it.

edit - that is a driver IC, it tells the digital VRM to "open" or "close" the flow of power...
Every Asus I've owned has died an early death. I'll never buy Asus. None of what I am reading here surprises me.
This thread needs a new title. Like "Asus Z7S WS = 85% Failure rate and counting."
Man,I'm worried Now! I have this board as my main rig... Its a shame :shakes:
Hope Asus does Good to you guys that have defective boards. At least give you a revised new board... IDK thats just me. As it stands I may get another Asus board for the future. If the failure rate increases I will not
Good Luck to all!!
Anyone got a link/method on how to BSEL from 1600Mhz FSB to 1333FSB?
Any chance that it might work in a X7DAL-E so that I may run my CPUs at 7,5x @1333Mhz FSB? Please advise. Thank you.
Dude.. you want LESS mhz? Seriously?
Sorry, can't help with that :shakes:
Try running WCG on that machine, and you'll want more mhz instantly :D
Edit: Ah, I see.. that mobo doesn't support 400Mhz FSB.
