I notice you're running an old 8mb Raptor 36GBer. I'm pretty sure the older ones didn't support NCQ. Only the ADFD's and beyond.

thats right, the old raptors doesnt have NCQ , mine hasnt too.Quote:

If u are using the extern sata slot (>>>> jmicron), then u have to set it to ahci ( or raid, some have trouble with ahci) in bios.
Not according to WD,
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/pro...40&language=en
Cuz I clearly remember seeing this feature checked on my previous rig when I opened device manager. Besides, the other drive thats 100% confirmed NCQ also isn't registering as NCQ and removal options are grayed out(they'r grayed out on all my drives for that matter). Normally the intel matrix storage manager should give you the option to disconnect drive I think, but when I rghtclick on a drive it says "NO ACTIONS AVAILABLE", thus implying other actions are available for other people. Maybe someone with a sata drive connected to the DATA connectors or any other SATA connector besides SATA1 can try and open that Intel Matrix Storage manager and see what happens when you rightclick on a disk in that tool.
Cheerz!!
And to answer you kaku,
Like I said, I am only using the SATA ports on the INTEL controller, my mobile rack is attached to slot 4, so thats what I use to hotswap, but slot 3 is also a black SATA port and no windows files are on this SATA drive so this should be hotswappable as well. Everything should be hotswappable on the Intel controller.Quote:

- it says also ''no actions available'' when i click to a disk

- the black slots for data, hotswap i quess.
Have you tried the external sata ? First set to AHCI (or raid) in bios, i think u also have to install jmicron raid tool.
I'm just gonna reinstall my entire windows and this time I am gonna put a floppy drive in so I am absolutely sure the driver gets picked up. If it doesn't work tomorrow then the board is going RMA:(:(
BTW, I did that fix for that sound, I uninstalled that XP hotfix and then I installed the newest audio drivers from Asus and bam the crackling was back, what wasn't back however was my slow random access times. So this hotfix only screws up disk access times for me, but it sure as hell doesn't fix the sound, the harder you turn the volume the more crackling:(
hey i just got my board up and running(see sig) and the only problem that i have with it is i can't boot it with the 7900GT in the top 16x pci express slot:( any ideas?. also i get the double restart crap too:(. BTW i'm using the 0711 bios.
change your bios setting to "IDE" from "ACHI"...ACHI is really NCQ.

I need some help getting a higher OC on my P5b Deluxe wifi...
At 506 x 7 I am 9hrs+ Orthos Stable with 1.525v on the CPU.
At 507 x 7 I cannot pass 1 hour of Orthos at any Vcore...
I have the BIOS settings set to the settings in this thread: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=115217
I did not change PCIe Freq. and I upped ICH voltage to 1.25
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know... I'd really like to hit 515 x 7 stable.
Thanks!

How is your cpu temp ?
Hi Guys,
I have been dealing with those issues for a while now, and share most of your frustration.
I have a few solutions and mainly clarification to add.
First AUDIO is screwed up bigly the result of it are as follows:
1. Crackling sound
2. Slow Winxp Boot time
3. Slow browsing through explorer folder (basically slow HDD performance)
4. No sound form 2 rear speakers
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
regarding the Windows hot fix, if my memory serves me right it only brought more harm then good i advice NOT using it as it is causing some of the slow explorer browsing to be slow. (u can find that issue in other forums)
* ok here is the thing, its enough to DISABLE the HD AUDIO in BIOS to regain QUICK window BOOT time ! (to me it feels like a conflict issues and mainly PCI Latency issue) and to regain f Fast explorer browsing experience.
Basically looks like shared resources issue or misbehavior of Driver/ Pci latency issue on the part of the AUDIO drivers.
I'm on the latest 4570 Audio Drivers from Asus (I have to say i don there a crackling sound.
Regarding SLOW AHCI DETECTION
I had that too. there is a solution!
The solution lies in an updated INTEL RAID DRIVERS! Yes, I thought it was a BIOS issues and it isn't it's a drivers issue. I VERIFIED that for sure, looks like old drivers after reboot were writing something wrong to the drive that caused it to hang for about 5-8 seconds at post time.
here are the drivers for INTEL trust me u will be surprised but no more hangs on Rebooting(regardig detecting AHCI drives).
http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...0.2002-all.exe
* regarding the Rear speakers not working , just go into soundmax (lower left corner blue icon) and choose preferences' -> DTS connect TAB, and uncheck everything. this will bring you back your sound to rear speaker, it aint a solution completely cause u loose the 5.1 DTS
Basically Audio drivers seem to be at major fault here imo.
* And I think I'm booting Winxp after about 6 runs of the blue bar at the WINXP boot screen (when AUDIO is DISABLED in bios) its about 11-12 runs of the blue bar when Audio is enabled. (If u want to see how fast u can boot without audio, then just disable it in bios, boot, and run BOOTVIS optimization, then reboot and see how fast)
Let me know how u guys make any progress.
I'm very frustrated with the slow HDD performance and general reaction (especially while loading programs and browsing in Explorer)
We need a Major Audio Driver fix I think to have this board run smooth - most of the issues seems to come from the sound H/W / S/W.
hey guys is my problem a known issue?Quote:

I haven't run bootvis yet and your other suggestions but if you say that there will be an improvement then I will be looking at 3x across maximum afterwards.Quote:

PS : yes frustrated is the correct word, drivers that give people so much pain should not have been shipped, its clear that these are no mere minor issues but major pain in the arse issues:)
UPDATE:
The file from c_fun(intel msm 6.2.0.2002-all.exe)is confirmed working here, now AHCI ports are detected instantaneously at boot, with a good defragtool called perfectdisk 7 I first defragged the drive(smartplacement), then I ran bootvis and now I can get into windows in under 5 bars across, 4,5 to be exact. When you run bootvis its very clear that this number 4,5 can be even reduced further cuz after the 3rd bootvis trace, right after you do "OPTIMIZE SYSTEM" windows will boot into desktop in 0,5 bars across. Yep you read that correctly, the bar will only go halfway across and boot into windows. The problem is, this 0,5 bars across only happens once, and its after you click "OPTIMIZE SYSTEM", windows will then reboot and its here that windows gets loaded SUPERSUPERFAST, if it then finishes the optimization it gets reset to 4,5 bars across. I tested this twice and it was same exact routine the second time, I even tested a third time and I didn't let the optimization finish after getting into windows for that last step and just cancelled the bootvis_sleep process, then I checked to see if the 0,5 bar would stick but helas, it was gone egain, windows booted even slower now, 7 bars across. So I let optimization finish on the next runonceex instance and now the bars were 4,5 again. Pretty good but still not opteron good(cuz there I had 2,5x across).
I haven't disabled HD audio in bios yet cuz I was still too busy with my reinstall. What else, aaaah yes, first of all my congratulations are in order, c_fun if I was head of Asus then I would immediately give you a position as manager of customer support, you solved a big issue here for lots of folks. I have no idea why Asus isn't bringing out that driver, but I guess its cuz it ain't WHQL certified yet, where did you get it from???
One thing thats still bugging me though is this SATA hotswap, I still can't safely disconnect my SATA mobile racks, I can see a green arrow pop up yes, but only when I plug in USB devices, so I know the green arrow exists but just not for my SATA disks. Once I disconnect my USB drive that green arrow dissapears, on my DFI lanparty SLI-d that green arrow just stayed there all the time cuz I was running same setup of disks back then.
So on to fixing these next problems, audio crackling and Hot Swap and I am one happy man, already pretty glad there's progress.
Cheerz all who helped so far(kaku, brahm, ...)

i've tried /3gb /pae/memset=3000 switches, mem remap enabled gets me 4096 in bios and 2gb's in windows, disable mem remap 2496 in bios and 2.43 in windows,

Guys I am having a problem. Check sig for rig.
I set 400 fsb and when it boots up it automatically sets the multipler to 6 and the fsb to 321. Check screenshot. I have voltages set to automatic so that is why the voltage seems so high but no matter what I do I can't get the multiplier to stay at 8 even if i force these settings in the bios it still boots up to this. Any ideas? Please help. How the heck are you guys OCing this board? This is the most recent bios as well.
It seems to be adjusting my multiplier while im in windows. Im watchign in cpuz and it fluctuates from 6 to 8...
ACtually its even worse than I thought. even at stock settings it seems to be setting my e6400 to a 6 x multiplier. Check out the screenshot. What the hell. In the bios I have the multipler unlock function set to disabled so it shoudlb e using the default of 8 but its not. Its even undervolting my cpu...
What does that have to do with anything?Quote:

swiftex: winxp sp2 does not support 4GB of ram. You might have more luck with a 64 bit OS like the ones mentioned above..
