i've got a 120mm fan on the case side panel blowing over the mobo and NB, when i bench and do linx/prime/game i crank up the fan speeds so theres quite a bit of air flowing onto the NB - i'll try 1.4v. safe for 24/7?

Hi all, I'm thinking about buying a GA-EP45-UD3P.
(I have a Q9650 no o/c, I'm going to start with my X38ds5 but it's going to suxx I think...)
Anyway, I would like to know if there is a better rev on this motherboard ? (rev1 to 1.6)
Thanks:)
Honestly rev 1.0 was the best but, you could buy an ep45T-usb3p do 530fsb on ddr3 ram. Giving you better bandwidth.
Hey guys, possibly found a great Q9650.
Batch # L828A446 and VID 1.1375. Seller said he got it to 4.2 at 1.25 on water.
Guys im thinking about selling my q9650 and am curious what you think these chips are worth nowadays.
Quick PK1 application and first boot with new Q9650. Bios Voltage - 1.4V, Termination 1.36V. Runs super hot even under my HD-D14 with two 150cfm Deltas
Batch # L828A446 - same as andressergio and nkreshno Q9650, I believe.

Finally got 4.5Ghz with 8Gb of Tridents chugging away @ 1200Mhz. Can run Prime 95 blend (128k - 4048k fft) all day with 6.8Gb of ram but small fft keeps freezing up on me. Amazing chip, only need 1.4V BIOS for 4.5Ghz so far.
I am thinking I should push CCPU Clock Drive to 900mv in ACC, because currently its 800mv.

You might want to raise your vtt up a notch, the 1.32 vtt setting doesnt work right its really the same voltage as the 1.30 setting.
Sorta yea, the voltages 1.30 and lower generally have a slight overvolt and 1.34+ start undervolting some. 1.30 is really like 1.31 and 1.34 is like 1.33. And as for the drive strengths I never saw them make a difference in stability so I kept them at default 800/900, unless benching.

Nearing on total 4.5Ghz stability on air. ACC does help a little bit, at least from my experience with my older Q9650, 800 > 900mv was equivalent of bumping vcore one notch.

Good clock oldcomer! I'm tempted to have another stab with my old Q9650 - snag is I only have the USB3P to run it on. I'm sure it'll be great for benching pi32m but don't know if this board can push as well as my UD3P rev1.6 (which now has another home). I guess trying won't harm it although it'll be on air (with lots of big fans) if I do. I think I need a pot and some LN2, but sounds too expensive for what it's worth....
Only had it for a week so far but definitely going to push it to the limit. Once I get water, say 4.8Ghz 24/7 stable :D
Got 4.5Ghz Blend stable ( 8k - 4096k fft, 6200mb). Ambient temps were a bit higher then usual because of the really warm weather here. Thanks to Jorbl3r and his Q9650 4.5Ghz settings, I was having some issue with large fft stability, plugged in his numbers for Mch Core and Mch Ref and bam..no problem.

Trying to push the chip to 4.55 but I keep getting restart / freeze issues. Should I increase MCH Clock Skew to 100ps from 50ps?
Try upping the cpu skew 50ps, that was what solved that problem for me at those speeds.

can someone help me get my q9650 stable @ 3.8ghz??
My mobo is an asus x38 ddr3 maximus extreme! I run my cpu 24/7 @ 3.6ghz 400x9 with NB temp at 32C idle but 3.8ghz makes my NB hot reaches 50C (altough cooled with an antec spot cool)
to get the mobo stable at 3.8ghz i have to pump 1.7+volts to my NB less than that it is unstable in gaming. FSB VTT is at 1.4v, CPU PPL 1.6v, CPU core 1.3v and Loadline Calibartion enabled is a must to eliminate vdroop!!
I use the corsair h70 with push/pull stock fans to cool my cpu :) As for the TIM i use the AC MX4!

Your v core is way too low, and if you have the north bridge any higher than 1.58 you risk motherboard damage, your pll is not proper either I think I used 1.65 sometimes more, try also please list what timings your using on the ram, and just to be honest you should be using a q9650 on a p45 board to get its full potential out. I hope some of my input help as I've seen the worst of the batches do better than what you've provided you'll need to increase your v core to 1.42 if it works from there lower the v core by two or three intervals until it isn't stable.
so you mean i need to set vcore to 1.42 for 3.8GHZ? isn`t cpu pll 1.65v too much for 45nm cpu? as for my northbridge it needs 1.7volts less than this it is unstable! My ddr3 ram is corsair DHX 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 stock timings 1.8v

Something you should know 2.0 vdram is considered suicide on air , secondly you should consider I have stabilized many systems and set fires to enough systems to know what's safe and what's damaging. Your northbridge/mch is too high I don't even use that much for liquid nitrogen. Secondly you must read this whole section pages 1 to the end or don't bother overlooking unless you have the money to throw around or you could damage everything you have with the voltages your using....
Wanted to add something else yorkfield based chips can die to termination being 1.38 or higher your playing in danger atm..
well 2.0v on this ram is ok according to corsair (ramguy) but 2.1v is the absolute maximum! as for my x38 chipset it is well known that it needs juice to stay stable and i saw people running this mobo on 1.7v red zone volts in the bios and according to intel spec this chipset temp limit is 90C and i never reached that much temp. the most i reach is 50c (cooled with antec spot cool) with with 1.7v when you say you dont even use that much voltage for LN i dont beleive you sorry remember x38 get hot soon and needs volts at high fsb :)
You could very well be right since its x38 and all of us with q9650 or the extreme version used p45 ud3p motherboards to achieve great clocks. But honestly you really should go to p 45 if your having trouble with 425 fsb or greater . My qx9650 which I sold for its full retail cost because of what it could do, used ud3p mobo and could do 530 fsb with low termination and low volts ran very cool :) maybe you should consider it.
Well i jumped on the bandwagon and my batch is L037B486 with VID 1.30000.
I clocked it stable on 4050MHz, 60 degrees on load, cooling is a lapped TRUE 120.
Gonna go for 42xxish for 24/7 and than i'm a happy boy!!!
edit: nope, my ram is the limiting factor, on 460 it crashed and it isn't the power, i even tried 2.0Volt on my RAM and no difference. So now it is 4050MHz, well it does 57Gflops in IBT on 4050MHz, i see people with 4200MHz and they have 58Gflops.
I bought a second hand gigabyte ga-ep45t-ud3p p45 ddr3 mobo from ebay and it`s on it`s way to me! I will be using a pair of 2x2gb corsair xms3 dhx ddr3 1600 9-9-9-24 1.8v stock timings on the board. anyone knows if my ram will be good for overclocking with my q9650 on the ga-ep45t-ud3p? i did not opted for the ga-ep45-ud3p cause it is ddr2 and i have ddr3 ram atm. Is it true that the ga-ep45t-ud3p is picky on ddr3 ram?
Only way to find out is to try it out, is it a new Q9650 like mine, i bought mine couple of weeks ago, production date end 2010 with a high VID, i can't get mine over 4200MHz, i even bought new ram (dominator GT 2000MHz).
My proc needs in bios 1.49Volt but temps are not extreme, in IBT on 100% load it rises up to 67 degrees celsius.
my q9650 pack date is: 5/3/2010 with 1.2250 vid batch # L009B453 and bought it 9months ago
Yeah but i guess i'm done clocking on this one, 4200 is enough for gaming and ingame it gets 55-58 degrees max (temps are different cores) and i won't gain nothing much extra for going higher as in 4300 or 4400 for 24/7.
My next PC will get his ass kicked and will run like a b***h for 24/7, going for watercooling i guess.
socket 775..so dated....................i7 ftw.
Call of Duty: Black Ops GPU & CPU Performance In-depth
"Black Ops on the other hand saw a massive 78% increase in performance when clocking our Core i7 processor from 2.0GHz up to 4.0GHz, and we continued to see a performance increase right up to the maximum tested frequency. Both the minimum and average frame rates were affected, suggesting that users who are in need of better performance will want to overclock their processor for this game."

Thinking about selling mine. It's J0r3lbr's old chip.
Send it to me.
I'll take good care of him :yepp:
Hey guys, I could use some good old X48 advice. My CPU is a QX9770. I just installed 8GB of Corsair RAM (1600C8). My motherboard is the P5E3 Premium. As you may know, this board is quite picky with regard to settings. Currently the RAM is running at 1280MHz, however, it is rated to 1600MHz. FSB is 400 (default for this CPU) and CPU multiplier is 9.0 giving 3.6 GHz. I have been trying to increase the memory speed by upping the FSB. I have backed off on the CPU multiplier when the FSB has been increased. LinX is stable, and SuperPi is stable. However, at even FSB 420, I run into errors in Prime 95 at about 7-8 minutes. I have tried increasing the CPU voltage as well as the NB voltage to no avail. It continues to act exactly the same each time when the FSB is increased. What would you recommend that I change in order to get things more stable? It seems like it shouldn't be all that hard to overcome this, but I'm at a loss here. Thanks in advance.
While benching for the CountryCup 2012, I've managed to set a new record so it's time to bring up this old thread.

Damn nice work!
I miss my golden Q9650 :(
I'm back to testing my Q9650 while I'm moving to an Ivy Rig and it appears that the vcore selected in bios does not match the actual voltage supplied to the chip.
I'm monitoring power consumption through everest and now my computer shuts down at 235 Watts instead of its usual 210-215 W max in the past. Only reason I can think of is the mobo is no longer delivering as much voltage as shown in cpuz / selected in bios.

You guy shave done a LOT with this chip since i last checked things out. I've been running at 4.05GHz on a COrsair hydro since I last touched my bios with i think was 2011!.
I decided my last effort was going to be trying to take advantage of the memory clock abilities now that memory nativley hits 2400. So I picked up some Viper pc3-19200 (pv38g240c1k) 2400MHz 11-13-13-31 but i'm having some trouble getting it to run at anything beyond the last clock I had my slower kensington hyperx running at. here's my config. Hoping someone might be able to help me get this figured out.
