my x850 did that... my x1800xt did that... my x1900xtx did that... and my customers x1900xt did that as well
doesn't really worry me much... and my friends 7900GT's and GTX's do it as well *shrug*

so you that's why you stick with 6600GT's? :D
no really, just think about it, if it's a major flaw in the design of the 7900's PCB & until now there isn't any revised design, then it's smart to get it!!
no, I just have 6600GT's because my x1900xtx is on a 6-8 week RMA trip to sapphire, and I needed something to hold me over
but I just picked up a 7800GTX that I got for a really good price, and the 6600GT's are getting sold to a friend
:)
come on, i was J/K :D
i have no artifacting, and look at my clocks in sig
i know you were just playing with me... but i thought i'd give you the exact reason why i have 6600gt's as well... ;)Quote:

If you read his post correctly he has put glue inside of them... It's your risk though....
And why does superglue or hotglue eliminate the sound ??
i think that by this you'll sealing it. which will prevent sound from propagating.
Can anyone provide a full videocard shot that also indicates the areas that needed to be cooled down, im getting my 7900GT very soon hopefully and i would try to put an old P4 NB heatsink on it.
It's been posted in this thread already....
Hey guys if ur willing to mod your boards (i'm sure you are) I know how to fix the cap problem yourself. I recently bought a used evga 7900GT SG and it had a capacitor broken off when it came in the mail. I managed to solder it back on.
I also have the green cap problem (Keep artifacting for Point Sprites) and I don't think its a big deal to rip them off and solder 2 new ones on.
As for caps as long as you get any higher rated ones they will work cuz u can always use higher rated caps for anything. Just make sure you also check the cap rated temps.
I'll post a SS of how I soldered the cap back on ASAP.
Here's the pics of the broken cap I had to fix (sry about blurriness).
This is what i did:
1. Get solder onto cap legs.
2. Solder 2 new legs onto the capacitor
3. Put heat shrink tube onto each leg
4. Solder legs onto board.
If you want to make sure the legs don't make contact you could try using some glue to make sure they never touch.

very good, now could you please tell me(us) if this have solved the artifacting issue? & if not, will you try 'fixing' it? :)
Well i'm just giving you an example of replacing a cap. I haven't actually tried replacing the 2 blue caps in question. I'm trying to return my board right now if that and heat sinks don't work i'll change the caps and let you guys know asap. But just wanted 2 let u guys know its doable and maybe someone's willing 2 try.

Well I bought an alu heatsink and it helped reduce some artifacting but it didn't go away... Gonna try some copper heatsinks tomorrow.
If anyone could help me find a good place to buy some caps lemme know.
Google is your BEST friend ;) http://www.radioshack.com/family/ind...032058.2032230
Er I tried some copper heat sinks and I got almost no artifacting when I underclock my vcore back to 450......
Screw this I'm just gonna try to RMA it if I can.
If I can't then i'll try switching the caps.
Also the caps also get pretty hot themselves.
Does anyone else have a problem where they close a game and everything goes CRAZY? Sometimes half the game is still being shown while half the desktop is still there, and the monitor goes black, then comes back, etc etc?
That happens to my dad's eVGA 7900GT CO SC after playing FarCry. He can be playing for HOURS and he'll close the game and it'll do that. I've read about a few other cases of this happening too. Is his second card now dieing? It almost seems like the 2D/3D switch on these card's is malfunctioning.. like in Deep Freeze of 3D2006, how the FPS drop to 1 or 2 and the card glitches. Does it think it has to switch to 2D mode right then, so it does and causes problems? Maybe it sounds stupid but, what if, ya know?
