Found pic with stock hsf and compared to X2. Stock HSF at dynamic, 60C = 65%. X2 at 100%. Stock volts and 700/800.

Well, I Finally got a chance to check this again, and I was very pleased to see that the VF900 actually outperforms my fs-v7 by something like 12C, as opposed to my previous results of 10C or more worse, (I had to quit my 10 loops of 3dmark05 gt3 because I was getting too many artifacts and crazy temps)
Not only that, but bottom SLI card temps improved by about 2*C as well!
Overall, My initial impression of VF900 was wrong, and I'm glad I gave it another shot!
So is the recommendation that these are NOT for ATi cards, but okay for Nvidia?

by me, I think they're well worth it for ATi and nVidia. You just need proper case venilation.
The VF900-Cu got my X1800XT rock solid stable at 700/800, in a small closed super lanboy.

I will mount a vf900 monday on my x1900xtx i will post my results after.
Pedro Rocha made a review on it, with a x1900xt, it's posted here in xs.
He said that it's a great cooler, the differences seems to be huge fot the stock cooler.
I guess vf900 is the best aircooled cooler that you can get for a vga right now
Just make sure you have good airflow, and you tighten it down HARD.

Agreed, I tightened it very very hard the 2nd time, and I wasn't too worried cuz it had balanced screw positions, and it made all the difference in the world, also since it's so nicely lapped, not a lot of TIM is necessary!Quote:

well he ran atitool artifacter only for 2 minutes .. temps were still rising. My x1900xt @ xtx clocks idles at 33°C and loads at 77°C.. go figure. Still a good cooler though, does the job and it's inaudible.Quote:

I assume all the coolers are pretested..
I put mine on and it was 16 degrees hotter under load than the stock cooler was. I tried as5 and my trusted shin etsu paste and it didn't matter which one I used.Quote:

ATI 1900XT(X)/NVidia 7900GTX are too hot and it also reflected from their super huge size stock cooler.
I would suggest Thermal right V1 ultra and Accelero cooler for those high end cards.
I've got the same question on what to get for my X1900XT (that leafblower fan is ANNOYING!) and I've heard some say what you are saying, others who say that the VF900 on the X1900XT is fine if there is enough ventilation in the case (140mm fan in the rear enough?).Quote:

Don't worry, there are a lot of Zalman and AC fans and you can sell it through ebay easily.
I was thinking it just the quality issue of of my VF900, so I RMA the VF900Cu before I read this thread and the OCforum's VF900 thread.
Finally, I just sold the new VF900Cu from Zalman directly last week.
I just ordered a VF900-Cu, I used to have a VF700 until i destroyed it lol Anyway, i hope it works okay with my 1800xl, since the ATI stock XT type cooler i bought is way too annoying, even at low rpms.

I'm currently using the Zalman Fatal1ty FS-V7 and am getting idle temps in the low 40's and load temps in the upper 50's
Just fitted my VF900cu onto my X1900 @ XTX speeds (1.4v) and currently idling at 50c. Will play some heavy oblivion/COD2 and then assess whether it's staying or getting swapped for an X2... used a v. thin layer of AS5 and my case side is off (always is though). :)
Can someone who is getting bad temps with a vf900 try lying your case down on its side with the side panel off and see if you get much change in temps.
