in fear the x1600xt is faster, in BF2 with AA on the x1600xt is faster in all res. Seems that very shader intensive games are faster on it. It also comes very close in several other games such as COD2, the drivers are still immature. Also consider the fact that it's about $30 cheaper than a 6800GS and it looks to be a pretty good deal.
It's now available in Canada...the XT...at some places $50 cheaper than the cheapest GS :D

Yup...as of now, you can get a x1600 crossfire setup for $500...which includes the motherboard and both cards...for some SM3.0 10k 05 action.

There won't be a "true" 256bit X1600XT. The X1600XT uses a 256bit ring bus which performs about the same a standard 128bit bus.

I would guess no, but you never know. I'm quite happy with my X800GTO right now though.
The X1600XT can reach X850XT levels in 05...the GTO cannot ;) ... though 3dmarks is about all where thats true...the gto's 256-bit leaves it behind...but not by much...
Remember also that the X1600XT is SM 3.0, has loads of multimedia features, doesn't need a vmod for oc's and will only get better with drivers.

I'm gonna pick one up i think. My 6600gt is dead and newegg doesnt have a direct replacement.

I'm going to clarify this once and for all. The Inq is referring to the memory read which is done through 256-bit bus...all memory writes are done via 128-bit bus.
THERE IS NO WAY TO ADD ANYTHING NEW TO THE ARCHITECTURE. It's either 128-bit or the X1800's 256-bit, which ATI will require bigger changes. It isn't easy as adding a few transistors.
Welz, its not worth the wait if:
A. YOu need it for solely gaming and benching
B. You're fine with the stock cooler
C. You need one before christmas (others are coming later)
And yes 256-bit would pwn...but it would result in greater memory bandiwth than the X1800XL just to give an example, so it is merely a dream.

yea i think ill order one know, as i have a zalman VF700-CU to put on it, and i dont use vivo :rolleyes:
X1600XT is optimized for heavy work/pixel ratio, hence the low ROPs, etc.
It'll only get better with time as much more intensive games come out.
