X850XT PE problems

Here is my Asus X850XT PE on air, stock cooler at 75% (100% is to much noise for me). :rolleyes:

With the stock, the card gives me 615-635 artifact free, and with 4.12 Cats run everthing ..nature inclusive..

Setup :
FX55 358*9=3.225 - Vapo w/ fans at 35% (I'm to sensible to the noise at this moment:))
DFI nF4 SLI-DR (one of the best board I ever owned)
TCCD @ 293 - 2.5-5-3-3
X850XT PE 615-636
Win2K, Cat's 4.2..

Lobby and Cars are acceptable, although I suspect I will get better speed with my good old BH5 with lower timmings - ;)
BUT..Nature and Dragos seems low even for 615-635 - I see X800XT at that speed getting better scores.. any explanation for this ?

Next -100ºC, cascade of course .. I will try to run the card in the cascade before doing any mods and let you know the unmoded speeds ...

Seeing as how my X850XT PE's memory only goes to 546 with AtiTool's Autodetect (and I don't believe this at all) what are the best methods to check for both GPU MEM and CORE artifacts?

Interesting stuff, Jupiler.... seems the PE don't do much better, in this case :D

Looks like my card is a miserable piece of crap.
Installed my Maze4 GPU on the card, had a bucket of ice cold water and started. Opened window of my room, thinking that ice cold air would help. Room temp was around 8°C. :D
At bootup, ATI tool reported a GPU temps of 5/6°C. Nice, I thought, so I started benching.
Didn't want to push it to far at once, so increased gpu to 635, memory at 630.
All went well, but score increase wasn't that spectacular. Only 200 points gained.

GPU up to 645 and tested Nature first, so I'd know if the card could handle it.
Nature froze after a few seconds, not looking good at all.
Rebooted and clocked GPU to 640. Same thing happened, Nature froze after few seconds.

635 seemed about the best this card could do with cold water.
After 2 1/2 hours, GPU temp at idle was only 10°C, which wasn't that bad either.

Conclusion :
Very disappointed after all, but at least, I tried.
Maybe I'll try again next week.

Wonder how Pedro's card will do under his cascade.

I tested the timings on my X850XT, only tested TRD from 5-6, but that didn't give me anything. My X850XT does 665Mhz on the memory at default timings, but when I set it at 6 I couldn't even run 675Mhz, so I don't think I'll gain from that since I need about 40Mhz more to make up for the loss in timings right? I hoped it worked cause I only need 90 points for 40K with this air cooled card. Can't get a decent run now though, keeps locking up :(

Sorry, but is this card volt modded? I'm thinking of buying a x850xt-pe and a 172w pelt (and run it at about 90w). But for a 20 mhz increase, the pelt doesn’t seem worth the hassle.

hmmmm.... with all this bad news I'm surprised more peeps aren't buying up old x800xt PCI-E cards!!

I have the same card and did the mods. At 1.65v core I can get 630mhz and artifacts show up.

With the vddq and vmem at 2.2v I am able to get 648 memory without changing the timings. I am going to try that tonight.

Do the mods.

I have a x850xt and with 1.65 vgpu I can hit 700 core with air. The x850xt are not so bad.

The issue here is that the x800xt is meeting or exceeding x850xt benchmark numbers at LOWER clocks...

It's like clocking a Celeron, it clocks like crazy but doesn't do much when it get's there!
Let me re-word that, the x850 is a great card, but AT LEAST for 3DMark2001, the x800xt makes better numbers at lower clocks.
Maybe someone could run benches at my 37,xxx numbers with matching x850xt clocks, it'd be interesting.

But Charlie, I think that at the end the X850XT PE is better. I'm pretty sure that if both have the same voltage increase and cooling (if they both have the same OC potential) the X850XT PE would perform better...

no, clock for clock the x850xt PE is slower. i think it has something to do with memory timeings though.

Clock by clock x850 is worst than x800 (in 2k1) do not know in the others...
But if u can clock it higher u can acchieve more marks then with the x800

Maybe between more 10/20 mhz in the x850 to be equal to the x800 ?

About the memory timmings use atitool beta 0.24 with both to see the timmings in mem's...dunno if they are differents..

EnZor, I know, I was saying that at the end (Because the X850XT PE clocks higher) that the X850XT PE is probably better;).

Let's take a look at two of the top 5 benchmarks...

SO here's the question: With 140mHz more CPU speed, does MM take out OPP's score? MM has lots more GPU speed... but scores less in nature than OPP even with higher clocks...

If it would actually (which I hardly dont think so) it would be way lower then that...

A64 3500+ @2.75Ghz
DFI Lanparty nF4 Ultra-D
OCZ PC 4000VX-K
Enermax 600Watt
Soundblaster Audigy
water cooled (GK,NB,CPU)

First of all the Card didn`t fit in Slot1 because of my Innovatek NB Cooler. So i put it in PCI-E Slot 2. Then i tried to make some benches - all drivers are the newest ones.. Card was 560mhz/600mhz

very poor i think ... my old Sapphire X800Pro was quite better
