I had this problem when I first got my infinity, make sure your hard drive is in LBA mode, not CHS. It cost me two days :(Quote:

Everybody I sent the bios too I made sure that they "flash at their own risk" because it is not a released bios
I use the STPGRNT settings with WPCSET so I dont know if that is causing me not to get peripheral drop, or the bios versions, but anyway, it doesnt seem to be happening in 1/31 but did once in 12/18 but never in 1/21 EVER
If STPGRNT was applied in the bios though, that would be fantastic as I wouldnt have to worry about using wpcredit anymore

yeah, used my friends MSI nf2 board to hotflash and eveyrhing is good now.. cept for the fact that Im on the 11/27 official bios lol. im kinda scurred to try it again lol... but im tempted.
so SAE, what version of winflash do u use to flash? the one that comes on your driver cd (v1.0)? do u have all 4 of those things on the left checked? and after it says "flash successful" and it reboots, do u shut down your comp immediately and clear cmos or what? walk me through that last step plz guys. :D
oh, and how many versions of modded bios's with 1/21 layouts are there? which works best for yall?
you should try putting your bios chip on his MSI nf2 and seeing if it helps it? ;)

Make a win98 dos boot disk. All I do is format a floppy in winXP and check the box next to bootable. Then add the bios, the awardflash, any .bat files u like.

Makes the process simpler Remember to edit the bios filename in runme to the one u want to flash. This is alot simpler to run this file than typing in the switches each time u want to flash.
One stick of 256Mb ram (I use bh-5). Awardflash version 8.24k. Set to optimised defaults (may aswell). Flash:
I use an abit bat file to flash (it helped me recover a bad flash so its in my good books). Get any official abit bios download and it will have abit fae.bat and runme.bat.
These are the switches anyhow:
awdflash 429IDn24.bin py /sn /cd /cp /cc /f
Then I press F1, hopefully the computer posts, set optimised defaults, switch off. Reset cmos (unplug power cable, and reattach taking care to turn all power switches off and on again in order). Replace cmos jumper to default position. Post go to bios and set optimised defaults again. Finally enter bios and set ur overclocked settings.
This is the method if everything is going well...
Check your hard drive jumper settings. Western digital drives have a problem in some jumper configurations. I have two WD drives. One set to master one set to slave, take the slave ide cable out and u have a pc that only goes asfar as the post screen, not even the bios.Quote:

Makes ure u got the 12v connector plugged in. Don't believe the voltage rails from the bios or motherboard monitor, measure the voltages with a multimeter if u have one. The board lies but especially when the 12v connector is not plugged in, then u can't load into windows apart from 133*8 or optimised defaults.Quote:

and on, and on, and on. Now you have recovered. I will repeat my advice to you: wait for Oskar to release the next beta that fixes whatever is causing the bad flashes.
Let me clearly explain why I started modding the latest Oskar Betas in the first place. The 4/29 and 5/5 Betas were a godsend for my system because they fixed the cold/warm boot failures I was having with any BIOS prior to these. Everything seemed great at first: about the same performance of the 1/21, no warm boots, mobile CPU recognition, etc. Then I started to randomly get audio/LAN drops like I used to get with the 1/31 BIOS. I had already tried disabling CPU Disconnect, better cooling on SB, etc. Nothing worked except using 1/21. I had already suspected for a long time that it might possibly be ROMSIP-related. So I decided to give it a shot: mod the 4/29 BIOS with the 1/21 ROMSIP and see what happens. Well, it worked!
Then I noticed WildKard had the exact same symptoms so I offered him my modded BIOS as a last attempt to get the benefits of the latest Oskar Betas. Well one thing led to another and I got more into modding these latest Betas and coming up with different versions.
Now I come to this point and this realization: I am modding a BIOS that is known to have a 30% flash failure rate and that I am enabling others' desire to flash to these risky Betas. What was I thinking? So, unfortunately, I have come to the decision to stop all modding. Hopefully the next BIOS from Oskar will be safer to flash, have no peripheral drops, and includes all the benefits of 4/29 and 5/5. If this is the case, then no mods will be required. Thanks for your understanding.
AMDev, please send me the 429 and 505 with 1/21 RS, I have bios savior so Im not worried about flashing at all.....and 5 backup NForce2 boards around also ;-)

is anyone else using a 80 wd 8meg drive with their infinity as primary master and able to run windows?
im using a 120gb, not 80gb. everything works fine for me.
Where do I find the 12/18 T6 bios?
As I said it simply a matter or jumper settings / cable select /being on the right end of the ata100 ide cable. I have mine set to master, and the other to slave.Quote:

I can't believe I'm even responding to this, but think about this for a little bit: what are we trying to accomplish here? We are trying to replace the less stable 5/5 ROMSIP with the more stable 1/21 ROMSIP. If the methodology used is correct (ie if the ROMSIP from x BIOS was truly inserted into x BIOS) then, logically, performance and stability should be identical.
But this really can't be done in this case because the 1/21 ROMSIP and the 5/5 ROMSIP are not structured the same. Not only do they have different structures, they differ in total size (the 1/21 ROMSIP has 10 Tables and the 5/5 ROMSIP has 16 Tables). So to have a 5/5 BIOS w/ a genuine 1/21 ROMSIP is both logically and physically impossible.
If Oskar had followed his usual 10 Table approach for the 5/5 BIOS, then modding it for real would be a 3min job, if that. There would be no doubt if the methodology is correct and there would be no need for lengthy testing whatsoever. But this, unfortunately, is not the case. I sincerely hope EvilouS understands this.
Now, you guys have forced me to go back to AMDMB/PCP DFI forum (aka FLAME FORUM) to download the file you guys did for the comparison. Actually I was just curious:D, but I've stopped going there for real because while it used to be a good forum, it has deteriorated significantly. Anyways, the comparison done by Megatron is 1) for two different BIOSes and 2) totally different ROMSIPs. EvilouS' uses the 4/29 BIOS, while mine uses the 5/5 BIOS. I have used a methodology that I believe is closest to the actual 1/21 ROMSIP. His methodolgy for the ROMSIP done in the comparison does not resemble the 1/21 ROMSIP at all. Actually, I suspect that he has used Tables from an ABIT BIOS for that one.
Jesus, I can't believe that I actually feel the need to explain any of this to anyone.
Look, if you guys read my post above you know where I stand about all of this BIOS modding and what my motives were/are. By all means, if you have BIOS saviors and know what you are doing, go to AMDMB and try all of EvilouS' modded BIOSes. He is a good guy and wants to help people. I wish him the best of luck and hope he figures it all out successfully. I also hope he understands his repsponsibilities for accepting such a burden. Maybe he can forget about the one guy that accidentally kills his board flashing an EvilouS modded BIOS. But, you see, I cannot. 'Nuff said.
