Hi guys,
Another one of Rise's fans chipping in to kick some cancer butt!
Thank you, Rise!
Happy to do whatever I can for such a good cause.
On another note, I got it to run on 64-bit linux with my GPU enabled, though it took a bit of tinkering. If anyone else is trying to do the same, feel free to contact me.
Hi, one more of Rise's viewers checking in.
I signed up at the WCG site, and I believe was able to join the XS team. Is there anything else that I need to do?
Have you downloaded and setup the boinc manager tool? If so you can go to preferences and change the used CPU time to 100% Good work!
Another fan of Rise here to join the fight against cancer. I actually had an aunt die of breast cancer a few years ago. Now I have a reason to put that extra CPU power to work! (Other than playing SC2 ;)
Great vid Rise. Just joined.
Using an e7300 @ stock :(
Does WCG have an option to use the GPU for folding?
Or my favorite, Milkyway@home (preferred because it's run by RPI, which is a few miles from my home).
Anyways, I really need to convince Dear Old to put ~$100 into my account. I need to grab another 775 board & PSU for my E2140.
I hate you. Your video made me cry.
I used to crunch for this team a while back, but stopped since I've had to pay my own electricity bills :P Nice to see I'm still on page2 of fdc stats :D
Anyway, got my housemates to chip in on my account, adding a Q66, 2 Q83's, an E84, an E73 and an X2 for the week.
Interestingly, my Q66 at 3.4Ghz benches at 31xx/98xx, and a Q93 at 3.15Ghz benches at 36xx/75xx. Seems odd? His memory is a bit quicker, maybe it's that...
Anyway, good to be back, briefly!
EDIT: forgot, and a 2.5GHz C2D laptop chip whatever model number they are :P
just posting to say i joined this cause of Rise, like everyone else here :)
I just wanted to stop by this thread and say thanks to Rise for his efforts in recruiting new members. A job well done. :toast:
I hope many of you will stick around past the first week of May. I think you may find crunching addictive.;)
For new members I ask that you please check out my post here.

Hey boys, I'm joining the fight! And also spreading this to people I know.
Rise's gotta be promoted to a Senior level of recruiter. Battlecruiser level or something!
I signed up to help Rise's dream come true. I appreciate all of your videos, Rise. Thank you for what you give. I've decided to give back, and I'm already completing projects with World Community Grid.
:welcome:
you guys are awesome! i appreciate the words of support and even more, your supportive actions in joining the team! :)
also if you haven't seen it already, there's a SC1 tourney being set up in the PC gaming section being organized by Angry Mochi that i'm going to try and participate in. you guys should join up, it will be fun/nostalgic :yepp:
Excellent job fellow OH-IO boy Rise! :cheer:
wow rise i just watched your video finally
and i can honestly say that i know EXACTLY how you feel
for 90% of the same reasons
the 10% difference is that my mother was taken by colon cancer instead
i lost her in 01' so 9 years ago, and im 24 now so yeah
close to the same issue
and i can tell you that even that much time wont heal that hole
yes it is a hole, and unfortunately there isnt anything that will ever fill it
i can only be shrunk by a wife/gf (pick your poison)
but even then it still wont be the same
back when i lost my mother i wasnt really into much of anything
and i didnt have the internet at my disposal like i do now
so i just felt hopeless every day watching her slowly slip away
as the years passed my dad got back out there and into the scene again
(and in a way im glad that he did. and i can understand that he didnt want to be alone)
and time passed and i ended up with a step mom that happened to suffer close to the same thing as we did
her husband was taken by cancer as well
not sure of what kind though
but she has since moved on and doesnt use her pc for crunching
i however slowly found folding@home and then was told about bionic
and i hadnt considered WCG until i seen the 'lets make a supercomputer' thread
ive since dropped everything from Bonic and stopped folding@home
(makes my room hot really quickly)
and in preperation for the upcoming week i have gotten my old dell back online
and added Bonic to it, i still have some other cards up my sleeve for the week
and i will soon start building 2 Sossaman rigs hopefully in a 1U case
but unfortunately they will not be ready before the week starts :(
anywho
i sincerely say that i am sorry to hear that you lost your mother
i know that my mother wouldnt want be to mope around crying 'boo hoo, i lost my mommy' the rest of my life
so
i picked myself up and went back at it
its the only thing that you can really do
that and build alot of sossaman rigs :D
this upcoming week has a much deeper meaning behind it for me
then when i first signed up for it now
and i will at least have 2 sossaman rigs crunching 24/7 here soon
heres to crunching the hell out of cancer :horse::upset:
Loved your video dude, big inspiration, great spirit thank you very much :)
I've been crunching stuff for 14 days straight now, and I gotta say its great to make a difference, no matter how small. WCG's BOINC Manager has been quietly working, not causing any lag or interference with my computer. Thanks so much for getting the word out on Youtube Rise. I lost my dad to cancer in 2006 and I'm glad to have found this forum, its great to see so many people working together so effortlessly.
