heheh subzero is a whole new game especially when you start cranking LN2 and start hitting different coldbug limits
but once you figure it out it gets much easier to adapt to just about any system :)

i've been doing some testing comparing ICH10 with adaptec 21245 card which is the new 1.2GHz SOC chip
i am finding that i can beat the Adaptec card running even 4xSSDs with only dual SSDs on intel ICH...that doesnt make sense
anyone else had issues with adaptec and PCMark Vantage?
@CT - I tried the GGBT OC on the fly via the new easytune6.
Based on limited testing - its seems to work well atleast for bclock.
I tried it out while running pcmv and watching cpuz - i went back and forth several times and no glitches :)
@stevero- excelleent this will help tremendously, great find!
@dinos- adaptecs (at least the ones out now) cant handle SSD throughput. the only things that can are
A: ICH10R
B: 6gb/s controllers, of which LSI has a lock on the market right now
C: old controllers with huge cache, but it is really the cache that is giving the big numbers, not the controller, and in some real world scenarios they fall flat. but for PCMV they are uber.
yes i agree of course, the 1231 is the uncontested champ for PCMV! and its ultra low latency is a very nice feature.
the write caching should be handled by the card separately. the windows write caching is only for devices onboard. the card should have its own options i believe, at least if it follows the typical hardware raid card form.
or am i misunderstanding? do you mean it wont cache writes at all for windows? like the card itself wont do it? sorry to be obtuse....
i've enabled it in card bios but it seems it may be working differently to other cards as the performance is very poor. Windows can't change the options(shouldnt it be able to do that too?) Let's not forget that Adaptec has far superior specs than some of the older cards mentioned here....the processor is a 1.2GHz chip (intel based) ...hardware really should be good enough for adaptec but it's the bios and possibly drivers that are letting it down somewhat in terms of PCMV performance i think
adaptec got back to me today confirming the inability to enable caching in W7 and that they will get in touch with their engineers to try provide a solution
fingers crossed this works out heheh
i hope it does, that would be great!
OK so a Cascade progress report -
I continue to be surprised by how sub zero OC can be so different than air or water - three weeks and I'm still getting the hang of it.
I found that my previous storage sweet spot was no longer working, pcie 119 was not working at all and it looks like 5xR0 might not be the best array any longer (6x, 7x?). - this is really going to take awhile! :shakes:
The good news is both the cascade and my 980 are holding up well - this past weekend - many power on hours - lowest evap temp was mid -90s under heavy load. IHS temps are staying in the -50s and -60s under load :)
Also the new gigabyte "oc on the fly" easytune6 seems to be working very well and should allow just about all ggbt mobo users to improve personnal bests across pretty much all of the futuremark "multi-step" benchmarks :)
All that said - I have improved my pcmv score a little - now at 37403 - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcmv=344366 :D
Another great result Steve
"a little" ;)
1000 points is a great improvement.
Any thoughts on why the pcie is not working at 119 and what is your max pcie atm?
Good morning Mr Anvil, yes 1k but still a long way from 40.
Regarding the pcie problem - seems like it has to be the increased cpu clock - holding 5+ cpu clock constant and varying uncore seems to have no affect -still broke.
At this clock - adding music to windows sub test drops by about 80% at pcie 119.
Pcie 118 with 6xR0 5.157(27x191) provided the latest best score.
Given that I was at 5xR0 previously - looks like I have a lot of alternate config testing to do - # of drives, pcie and maybe even relooking at stripe size.
edit - Most of the 12 subtests will run at 5.4 (27x200) :D - I will need to drop to lower clock for movies1, game2, maybe one or two others.
Steve,
pcie 118 is fairly close to 119, looks like 119 is the magic number somehow.
Strange that the previous "best" storage config changes that much, well, it'll keep you busy for a while.
Breaking the 40K barrier shouldn't be easy :), I'm sure you'll get there in the end.
(it might take Sandy Bridge to do it, or finding the sweet spot on your current rig)
very nice work mate
@ Mr Dinos - I just watched your 790i vid - nicely done.
@ Mr Dinos - way to go - excellent pcmv run there! - looks like you just grabbed the #5 slot -very well done!:up:
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?pcmv=344855
On air too - very nice!
What SSDs did you use? and on ICH10?
Did you get a look at your HDD windows media score - huge - 2x my score my friend - excellent work!
hi mate
yes i am just playing around on this platform and i must say i have become a bit addicted to this benchmark
unfortunately Adaptec engineers are not willing to improve their card so i have to use ICH10 for now and even 2xSSDs is good enough for about 30K all air...maybe a bit more once its all running perfect.
SSD and stripe size will definitely give you a huge boost there but that is the only advantage i have over you guys with ACARDS.....i'll throw the thing subzero and give it a try but i would KILL for one of these 1231ML controllers to get the most out of 4xdrives.....or even more if it will scale
i used Patriot's new Sandforce based drives for this bench
Mr Dinos - I think you are #1 for ich10 - way to go!
It blows me away that you are less than 1.5k from Mr breslin's 9260-8i/5xR0 C300/256's including fastpath (I think that was his uber config).
Mucho respect for sandforce on ich10 in the hands of a skilled overclocker! :yepp:
edit - also - absolutely yes - your sandforce drives on a 1231 with 4GB cache would be a total screamer - could give the acards a run for their money.
its no big deal....you guys are the ones kicking arse ... i love the read and how you guys are pushing each other....good stuff
its kinda weird that some scores dont appear in HOF.....u know why mine and breslin's arent up there?
It takes sometimes a week or more for it to update - don't know why it takes so long.
edit - Mr brelin's is there - just untitled
Great work Dinos
30K on air is great!
I'm not surprised though, my goal was 30K on air but I just haven't had the time to play with pcmv lately.
3-4 or possiby 5 SF based drives should be the ultimate drives for pcmv.
[QUOTE=Anvil;4488024]Great work Dinos :up:
30K on air is great!
QUOTE]
Actually Mike's latest greatest (almost) 36K was also on air.
Some of these guys that have been doing this for a long time can do some amazing things. :)
Edit - That said, a 30K pcmv score with ich10 (no add in h/w raid controller) is also a huge achievement -again, well done Mr Dinos.
