9XXT and 10XXT AM2+ Support Thread

Justwanted to report in on how the 1b bios for Thuban support on my MSI K9A2 Plat. Board went. Well it was a little rough and rocky and while the Bios flashseemed to go off without a hitch it did seem to cause major unrecoverable havok with either my previous windows 7 64 bit installation,or the Raid bios and it's function. I highly suspect the latter issues to be with the raid. Windows loaded up went to install a pair of new pci bridge drivers and crashed to never be recovered. I ended uphaving to wipe out and re-install windows 7_64. Just as it was getting ready to load the desktop and register it crashed,but re-booted up fine.

I have since been into the desktop and everything for the most part seems to be running alright I'm in the process of installing some stuff we'll see how it goes as I load stuff intoit. One thing I noticed on the BIOS loadup screen is where it shows the memory status it shows a message along the lines of unmanaged emory 64 bit or something similar to that I can't remember, I don't remember seeing that ever before.

We'll see how it goes anyways.

Others running Thuban on an MSI K9A2 Platnium board plese let me know how it goes with the 1b bios and please let me know if you have any issues at all with it.

Please keep us posted on how things are going. But I am curious is there any other features that have been added to the BIOS Menu? and Does it overclock well?

So far I traced the main Issue as mentioned abouve with the bios flash crashing the windows 7_64 install was in fact NOT due to the bios flash, the raid bios or anything else thatI can see. The major issue I tracked down with the first crash after 1b bios flash was that upon first bootup back into windows after flashing was that Windows automaticaly went ahead assuming like typical windows that it knows best and thatit will go ahead and download and install a Pair of PCI Bridge drivers for the chipset. Anyone running this board makesure windows will NOT do this update or you may lose everything as I did, so make sure you take a backup image ect, I just decided to do a clean wipe anyways rather than use my backup image incase the PCI bridge drivers were going to cause the same issue.

I do not know if the PCI bridge drivers from windows are different than MSI's, and I also do not know if they work differently with the 6000+ dual core I previously had installed with that OS than they do with the new Thuban. Something is going on there and my limited tech knowledge of CPU die tech and Chipsettech is limited, sorry fellas.

As a test I decided to install the motherboard utillity from MSI for the K9A2 callled dual core center to monitor temps and fan speed, and as I suspected before installing it, it crashed and BSOD, and guess what? it instaled a Pair of PCI bridge drivers, Booting into safe mode and un-installing Dual core center fixed the issue. You maywantto avoid this utillity.

So far I've run WCG Boinc project at 100% load for 24 hours at stock everything and no issues, temps are sitting at 45 degC on air. It started at 50deg C, and burn in ofthermal paste/cpu, heatsink seating ect has gone well. I will now start to overclock and let you know how it all goes.

So far I'd say your good to go for it.

Thank for letting me know. I was about to use dual core center anyway. SO now I'll just stick to MSI's afterburner.

We can be pretty sure it won't be sooner...

I have 3 K9A2 Plat MBs waiting for the BIOS Upgrade!
It has been a great MB for me, and part of why I use MSI for my work projects. (10 MSI Based Systems so far this month!)

The bios is out already that secretly supports 6 cores, they uploaded it to there website.
