not for nothing but i'v see both sides rave about their new up coming drivers with fancy slides, then so so results on your pc.
it would be nice if ati let you make you own game profiles thuo..
ATI Tray Tools lets you do that and so much more that i gave up completely on CCC. I only install the driver and let ATT do the rest
Does anyone know if the multiple monitor issue with SLi will persist with the Fermi generation?
By that I mean, currently, when SLi is enabled, you only get 2 displays, and one must be via HDMI, thus is is limited to 1920x1200.
It seems that ATI is ahead of the game here, as I've been told that with Crossfire, you could have 3 displays, two of which are 2560x1600 and one that is 1920x1200.
Granted, you only get top performance on one, which is all I care about, but having 3 displays is making ATI seem more appealing (strange for me to say that after having NVIDIA cards for the last 10 years).
Any rumors on this changing with Fermi?
HDMI is limited to 1920x1080? I thought it topped out at 1920x1080/120hz or 2560x1600/60hz?
See this post :
This is what i've remembered as well, not only from his article, but also from his post in his forum. I don't give a fvck about the exact number, but he's more correct in his diesize info than many nVidia's fanbois and worshippers who sweared on November release & 470 mm^2 or less diesize since last summer.
by the time those cards gets out, i think there will be a fermi part 10 thread here :D
I've followed & read enough forum posts here & in B3D forum, that early on, many speculating, suggesting, even insisting, that GF 100 or whatever it was called/rumored back then, will be smaller than GT 200b, beating ATi in transistor density in this node round.
I'm not Charlie's total believer, i find it hard to believe his 5% GTX 480 advantage over HD 5870, and his GTX operating temperature revelation is also suspicious, but atleast in this matter, he has been very consistent for a long time, and proven right in the end, end of story.

i don't think one has to be dp, i believe you can use the two dvi connectors independantly. also, gf100 cards will support up to 3 monitors in SLI mode, even when using 3d vision.
Will this thread be mostly ATI again ? WTF, Did anyone read the first post ?

well i'm going to buy a 480 when they get released for a few reasons:
1) i need a card with around the power of a 5870 (480 by all accounts will be slightly better)
2) i need DX11 for work (dont really care whether I got ATI/nvidia on this one) (I'm a computer graphics lecturer at a university)
3) i run two 1920x1200 screens and ATI **STILL** hasn't sorted out the flickering issue on the second screen! That's completely unacceptable close to 4 months after launch! They may have eyefinity but when the card is in low power mode (ie most of the time) it cant run two screens (my damn 8400gs in my work machine can but obviously its too complicated for the 5870)! I had ordered a 5870 then i read about the issue and cancelled my order and am still waiting for it to be sorted out...
If the 480 launches in the $450~$500 price range I will buy one as there is no other choice, simple as that.
No way it will launch with that price. Even if it's MSRP, I expect artificial reseller markups to compensate for any reasonable prices on these new cards.
I can say that I almost understand it, though. These are expensive beasts to make, and with yields as they are, nVidia's going to have to strike a delicate balance between selling the most cards possible, and making the most per card possible. I think they're in a risky spot right now. If they don't sell as well as ATI's current offerings, I worry about how much room they actually have to drop and compete. ATI should have more room to compete, especially if their yields start to improve.
All I can say is, for $500 it had better kick the 295's butt. I'm not anti-multi GPU like some are. I'm "pro best performance for your dollar." I know that multi-GPU setups have adversaries out there that would pay a good deal extra to get 295 performance without the dual GPU. I know some have had issues. Heck, it took me FOUR GTX 295's to finally get one that works!! But boy does it work good. That's why you just buy from someone with good service and a good warranty!! :D
