Ah that is a bit rubbish....

The performance loss looks small with single disk but larger with a RAID config?

The memory issues are mostly caused by CPU seating on X58 (to much CPU movement possible in the socket). On one board I had to re-seat 4 times before getting it to run sweetly with the ram. Personally i'd set it up outside the case and test until it was behaving itself :)

Biker, here is the post of Nugzo's screenshot showing the disk performance on the 2 controllers, I hope this can be fixed with a bios update:(

So you guys are talking SATA2 speeds on a SATA3 controller then eh?

In my case, it is almost like SATA2 speed on a single SSD. But I hear (on OCZ forum, Including here: SATA 3 (6Gb/s) ATTO Benchmark Picture ), that we need the right controller on SSD to take advantage of SATA3.
I guess the problem is more related to the "old SSD controller" than the driver or MB (but it still may be a combination, tho).

My OCZ Vertex has an "old" Indilinx controller which seams to be more to blame, tho. How much the controller on the MB is playing a role, can't be determinant before using a SSD with the right controller, I believe.


OCZ has already announced new controller on SSD for use on SATA3. Some exciting readings for those who care about SSD on SATA3: Micron RealSSD™ C300 Solid-State Drive. I can't conclude that the controller on the MB is to blame before using one of these, tho.

Ya, that is why I asked. Seemed that it would be obviously slower, or not much faster anyway, to use SATA2 on a SATA3 port... Right? I mean it is not going to be any faster as it is still SATA2, or are you guys just making the real note that is is slower than actually using the Intel SATA2 ports? If that is the case, I would expect that due to the Giabyte controller is always slower, albeit normally this is J.Micron Vs Intel comparison though.

Ya, I want some SATA3 SSD disks! Maybe then regular SSD prices will come down, but I bet not by much. Intel needs to get on the ball and stop working so hard on their SSD's and get to work on RAID Drivers for ICH10R to pass through TRIM commands, but I bet we will all have to wait for ICH11R for that.

For me, SATA2-speed (300Mb/s) is more than enough. It won't be any kind of limiting factor on a single SSD, anyways. It may be different for RAID, tho.
I guess we are going to see much cheaper and better SSD with the right controller for SATA3 early next year. First then, this controller becomes really important/useful for me.

I have a RAID SSD setup and it is fast, in benchmarks, but not sure how much faster it is though at too awful much else :) I never have compared them separately either, guess I need to sometime soon.

I've got 205 bclk on this board. 205x21 = 4.3ghz. 1.35 vcore. Memory at 6-7-6-20-1 1T 1640mhz. I can't seem to get higher bclk to run.

You could try to relax the Memory, maybe it is holding you back. Otherwise your CPU-batch# may be the limiting factor, too. But this MB won't make OC limitations like this, for sure.

I think this is as much of an X58 issue as it is a MB/Ram issue. I just pulled my new gigabyte x58a UD7 because i couldnt get the 12gb to concistently show up. every once in a while it would work, and it would normally work the best after a CPU reseat. It would go back to only showing 10gb in a day or two. Re-installed my classified and it worked great for a few hours, many differnt settings, then poof, 10gb just like the UD7. I'm using a TRUE 1366 with the stock mounting brackets. It also happend to me with an ASUS. I was using 9gb and sometimes only 6gb would show. That was different memory and different cpu cooler. This is such a strange bug. So many different things that work for select people, but nothing concrete. There is no "Do This and it will for sure work" solution. X58 has been out long enough that you'd think the cause would be known by now. Maybe differnt RAM is next for me..... I dunno. It's driving me crazy though. I have about $1500 tied up in 2 motherboards and 12gb of ram. Frustrating!!!!

I tried 4 different motherboards and 3 sets of ram early this year before I realized the issues I was having w/ 12GB wasn't with either. It was the CPU.
Although my issue was different than yours. Mine just wouldn't post above 180blck w/ 12GB of memory.

but today is really needed 12gb?

for me is too much 6gb an is always useless....

Is the board PCIe/bclk limited like the old versions were?

Can i get by with 6gb? Probably. Shouldnt i be able to run atleast half of the amount ram this board says it supports? Most definitley! I was usung 8gb flawllesly on my oldschool s775, i should uprade and accept less ram?As you can see, at idle, sitting here typing this reply, im using 2500mb of ram. If i had 6gb installed then i'd only have 3500mb of ram remaining. Thats not much. People saying do you really need 12gb of ram? My reply to that is do you really need a 4.5ghz 24/7 quad core? Do you really need those 3-4 video cards? These boards are advertised to run 24gb, 12gb should be no problem. I spent 450 for a Classified and 350 for this UD7. They should run 12gb and be happy about doin it. If it's a memory problem and not the board, thats almost as bad. I spent $700 for this memory, it should work at 1600. It's rated for 2133. With 12gb installed, it wont even work at 1066 though. 6gb at 2000 ran overnight memtest4 with each 6gb kit. 10 hours each, no errors.
Whats crazy is i havent seen any manufacturer say what the actual cause of this problem is. If its bad CPU/Socket contact like some suggest, How do i fix it? i'm using the stock mounting bracket for the beloved TRUE. No modifications. I just want gigabyte, evga, asus, or whoever to tell my why i cant run 12gb. Their board specs should read: Memory....this board supports between 6 and 24gb of DDR3. It's luck of the draw, we dont have any way of knowing how much you can actually use but in the lab we did get 24gb to work on this one board that one friday night.:yepp: So give me $500 bucks for this board, dont get upset if you can only run 6gb though. You were warned....lol


ps.. I guess 9gb is a suggestion.. Better than the 6 i'm stable at now. Better than the 8 i upgraded from. Still Triple Channel. K lets spend some more :p

So is this mobo considered better for H2O than air? My rig will be air, but depending on how others feel about this mobo I'm stuck between it, the Ud5, and EVGA A1....seems people are still trying to figure this board out.

Any ln2 or cascade results around guys? I'm curious to see how the pwm handles full load high clocked cpu @ 1.6v and if it can bench at 240bclk :D

If this board can match or beat the efficiency of the old EX58 and can push a good chip above 5.5g then i'm sold.

But if your 12GB are 6 double sided sticks, they probably are same as difficult for the board to handle as the full 24GB would be (again 6 DS sticks).

Well i just removed and re-installed the TRUE. Now all 12gb are back. first time in 24 hours. I guess if i re-seat the CPU everyday i'll be ok :yepp::shakes: I guess a new cooler is in the works. Maybe the noctua NH-D14? Does anybody know if that'll fit this board? Anybody using it?

I'm starting to agree with you. Voltages never help, re-seating cpu does. But it only lasts a day for me wtf? With all the pressure on the chip, how can it possibly move?

There was a big discussion about the 1366 / 1156 socket around here somewhere which concluded the Foxconn varaint was bad (not enough downward pressure, too much cpu movement in socket possible) and the other varaint (Lotes) was deemed better.

If this keeps recurring i'd take a good magnifying glass and a decent torch / desk lamp and have a really good look at the socket pins.

I have managed to straighten out quite a few bent or misaligned pins in 775 / 1366 sockets with careful hands and a sewing needle :)

The Noctua will fit on this board but there are quite a few memory limitations. Noctua website shows which modules will fit since the cooler does go over the top of the first four sockets.

Here are two pictures I got from Noctua when I spoke to them about the NH-D14 compatibility and the UD7 board. I was especially interested to see if the hybrid silent pipe would fit with the D14 installed. From what I can see, it will not work with the silent pipe.
