after i changed it from auto to 10,i tried to set what auto showed and set it to 14 and still kept coming up as 5-8-8-24.i tried 13 ,9,8 then
when i set it back to auto after two boots it went back to reporting cas one too high again(9-8-8-24)i think its just bugged
EDIT-i just set 7-7-7-21 in the bios and cpuz and everest report 8-8-8-24

and it seems to only change my cas to 5 when i set the tRD to 10.
but nothing changes my everest scores?going from cas 9 down to cas 7

okay note for clarksdale. The f6 bios at the top of the list on page 1 is no good. you want the f7 bios for ud6. f6 sets my x16 at x8. I came across this same issue on msi gd65. they gave me a beta bios 1.73 but bclk on that board with clarks maxed at 200 on dice so I sold it and bought the maximus III formula and and a ud6. I just insulated the M3F. now I'm gonna pull the ud6 off (im curretly on it typing this post) insulate it and hopefully by that time I have a decent bios to work with. in the meatime Ill see what I can do on F7 bios.

try with QPI link x40 and playing with the tRD setting, set tRD value at 12 in bios used to always give me correct memory timings reading in Windows.

this somehow adjust something (which i dont know), but CPU-tweaker / CPU-z / Everest would show bios-set memory timings.
anyway, as far as i could see there was no system stability problem.

Im working on getting 4600mhz stable now. It failed last night after 14 passes of LinX using max mem.
Changed the CPU multi to x25 and upped the bus speed to 184, set timings to 7-8-7-20 and passed 4600 using 2x1gb of HyperX. Will try later with the 2x2gb kit of Dominators. I wonder if it didnt like the 26 multi.
Its nice to not need an expensive WC setup to cool the chip, I'm using a Corsair H50.

i just set my QPI link speed to x20 and now instead of reporting cas one highe now it reports it one lower:confused:
yep im at 21x200@4200 for testing the QPI link speed,i set 8-8-8-24 w/static tRD set to 12
and cpuz and everest now report 7-8-8-24?if i set QPI back to x36,i get 9-8-8-24?
is it ok to run my QPI at 4000?
I'm not positive, If I'm not mistaken I was using QPI Ratio set to x48 in bios up until today. All my overclocking on the i7-860 and 870 were done using x48 with no issues.
Only reason I switched to x40 was to get the ram timings to read correct in cpuz.
Edit: I went back and looked at some screens and I had it set to x36, sorry.
yea my board goes up to x40.now that i set it back to x36 it still reads my cas one lower?
maybe someday they can solve these strange issues
Pushing my luck a little bit, but having fun. Ran some spi1m tonight. Had a better run at 5100mhz but locked up taking the screeny.
I may get a cheap WC setup for this chip, it wont take much to keep it cool. So far the H50 is doing fine.

Nice! That's some pretty low timings even for the HyperX 2GHz running CAS 7. Probably the CPU's memory controller getting picky at that frequency pushing some QPI V through it for CAS 7 at 2GHz. That's so close to stable though if you got that far.

After reading about many dead Clarkdale chips I am a little nervous to keep pushing. But this is almost to easy, makes it hard to stop.
I recently picked up a Core i5 750 + Gigabyte P55A-UD3 bundle at Fry's for a pretty good price. I don't plan on doing any EXTREME overclocking, but I would like run to a decent 24/7 overclock. Can anyone weigh in and tell me if it would be worth the extra $50 to upgrade to the UD4P, mainly for it's 12-phase power regulation? I have no use for most of the other features offered such as dual LAN, better onboard sound, or SLI compatibility, so I'd really appreciate if someone could weigh in on the OC potential of the UD3 versus the UD4P, and if it is indeed a more robust board outside of the features I mentioned above.
Hi there Wompa. Check out what "ehume" (farther up the page) has been getting with his UD3P. His board is a good choice too, if you don't need the UD4P's extra features. I've had different Core i5 750s on a UD3P and UD3R reaching 4GHz. Auto BIOS settings weren't so forgiving with the UD3, so I had to do a little tweaking.
Otherwise, the big overclocking difference between the UD3 and UD3P/UD3R/UD4P are the Phases. Auto settings favor those three and seem to like every 750 I've used so far.

I'm running 4GHz routinely on the P55A-UD3P. Rock stable. Even the voltages are stable, which I attribute to the 12-phase VRM.
I run LinX to test cooling fans with my Megahalems. My sole difficulty is my inexperience with applying TIM properly. But I'll get there.
As Temujin says, choose your board for the features. The 4P/4R and 3P/3R are all quality boards. Check out this review for example.
