The data came from Informal - see quote after my statement. I believe the 32C was achieved during the Crysis loop but it could very well be idle. My 3.2Ghz Phenom I idles at 29C underwater, but it has much higher current leakage than 45nm Phenom II. (my cpu vid is 1.39 compared to the Phenom II 1.5!!!)Quote:

Imagine for a minute that for the last 4 years you've worked with nothing but Intel systems with their very limited settings in BIOS and suddenly your looking at a bios with numerous settings and names that mean absolutely nothing to you. Seriously, imagine that for a minute.
Now the system isn't out in retail so there's very little info available for it so what do you do?
I saw a resource here at the forum for that info and I asked.
These weren't long drawn out conversations but a few PM's.
He didn't say to me" Dave, here's the magic settings that will make you famous" but just a short explanation to get me on the right track.
From there it was 3 very long days to understand the workings of each setting in relation to the others.
Try this,bluescreen, back off then try that,bluescreen, then try another area.
Not rocket science but just 60 hours of testing over 3 days.
Why did I spend so much time on this?
I felt an obligation to show what this system could do in the hands of the "average guy"
I knew there would be threads by guys like FUGGER showing huge numbers with xtreme cooling but I wanted to show what it would do for the vast majority of guys like myself who do air cooling.
I haven't benched in years as my passion is in the DC area not into the fastest speeds possible but the fastest speeds possible for sustained 24/7 100% load.
I look for what system does the most work in the least amount of time and thats all I care about.
Yes, to make the thread I did run superpi as it is a valid measurement of computational power when comparing one like system against another and also, it's a fast bench that doesn't take a lot of time.
I also ran Cinebench10 for the same reason.
Last I ran the two main DC apps that people do on this forum;WCG and Folding at Home.
This wasn't a "cherry picked" system to the best of my knowledge but an Intel press kit and unless all of the Press kits were "cherry picked" mine should be the same as what people can buy.
I'd like to comment on Francois Piedenoel also.
What some miss here is that although he is an Intel employee and his loyalties are with them he is also like many of us.
He's a gamer, a guy that does DC work like myself, and a hardware junky from what I see.
He's also a decent guy, one you'd like to sit down and have a few drinks with.
Usually with people at his level of the business world you see an ego and condescending attitude but what I saw was just a guy that loved the hobby as we do but also had the "dream job" for someone that loves the hobby.
I'd like to comment to the comments made on the AMD zone in the screen shot below.

No one buys me ever. I have friends here but no one has ever approached me asking me to shade my feelings on any issue.
I speak my mind as I see things and I imagine there are times when some would wish I shut my mouth.
I try and look right down the middle when moderating no matter what the issue is. The only thing I am a stickler on is civility to each other.
My one flaw if you wish to call it that is that even at age 56 I still have passions. That feeling of wonder one experiences such as when you saw the Grand Canyon for the first time or your first love and I think some have misinterpreted those passions for me being "bought"
My last feeling on this thread is that when will people get beyond this constant AMD vs Intel rivalry?
They are companies that exist to make a profit and that is their main goal.
To "love" one and hate the other is so ridiculous as to be laughable.
They will each have their time to shine and also their time when they don't.
It is that simple and if I can see that I wonder why some can not.
Take the best that each can offer and if you prefer one over the other thats fine but don't let that feeling grow into an obsession and rule your emotions.

To clarify: I was seeing just under 5000 points a day on the nehalem at 3733MHz on air cooling while a Yorkfield on water cooling at 4000mhz was getting 3300 a day.

I wouldn't describe that as a "normal guy" personally. I'd just describe that as 999 in 1000 Internet forumers: rude, obnoxious, unhelpful, and annoying. I've read his posts here and elsewhere also, for quite a while. And all I see is a sales pitch. There might be other nuggets mixed in there as well, but in the end he's here to tout Intel products, end of story. Now, i'm not saying there's anything wrong with that as long as there's no disparaging or the like happening, and in the right place. But please, at least call it what it really is- a sales pitch.
And I think what irritates people more than anything, are statements like this: come on, leave the AMD guys alone, let them have a little fun and enjoy it while they can. Not verbatum, but I can't find the quote. To me that wreaks of arrogance and I don't take kindly to being belittled.
I think some of you may still remember RD 580 namely the sapphire one in this example, and remember socket 462. Nehalem ocing for movie man is compared to lets say Core 2 via the options in bios is like comparing 462 on an nf2 to 939 on a manta.
Me personally i love more buttons.
Anyway can't wait for amd, all 3 of my phase change units have been very lonely and collecting dust.......
