I have had 2 dfi motherboards in the past, always regretted selling the latter:
Ultra D NF4
Expert Venus :shakes:
Other boards don't compare...
However I see myself going back to dfi soon...
<3 ULTRA-D UT
Just SLi modded the chip on this baby ive had for a while, runs so well and ive gotten support from there sales before aswell.
(almost got reviewing samples.)
Anywho, ive had yet problems with dfi only positives.
The boards I've tested under my 15 years with computers: Abit, MSI and Gigabyte I don't like at all, several of my MSI went to hell and Gigabyte and Abit also, both amd and intelboards. The last MSI though is still working with 875 chip. Went to asus, after at least 150 different or the same boards I was fed up. Last one was Striker 2 Extreme, worst board I ever owned, had 3 striker extreme that was imo better, chocked to say. Some month ago I bought my first DFI and for me it's a very interesting board (X48 T3RS). For me the first bioses was not good but lately it goes very very well with my config. I understand people that are frustrated on their hardware but, it's just to read up and take it easy. One thing I've also noticed that people tend to forget is that the rest of the hardware is of good quality and known to work with in this case DFI. If you following threads in different forum they blame motherboards, memorys and several other things and got a really :banana::banana::banana:ty PSU. The moment you got all good parts (known to work well together) and try to make something out of it and it still doesn't work, then you can ventilate it and try to get help. I of course don't blame anyone, this is just my own observations in the hardwareworld.
Well, I've had the Lanparty UT nForce 3 250GB for my old socket 754 system and that worked without skipping a beat. I do agree that support is a bit lacking giving lack of resources apart from this site and others. Now, I'm sort of wanting to drift back into DFI with their 790FX-M2R as the Gigabyte 790X-DS4 is a bit undesirable ATM...
I owned my first DFI board for several months now since the beginning of April. The LanParty DK T2RS. I couldn't be more happier. It's the best overclocking board i have ever owned (previously Asus P5B Deluxe) and a fantastic overclocker and isn't even a highend board but midrange at a good price. The board has a great layout and i been running my Q6600 at 3.87Ghz for several months 24/7 constant at high voltages. I had it upto 4.1Ghz but that was 90% stable. This can only mean one thing quality parts and decent PWM and NB heatsink as standard. It actually scary what i was achieving and i was left feeling it some other hardware or me and not the board when i couldn't get any further. The board just keeps going and going.
I will say that the RMA is with the retailer you bought it from and not with the manufacturer. I am in UK and it only been recently been able to purchase DFI here. I don't know about Australia but i do know they only have a few enthusiast shops there and getting DFI is not so easy so stock is thin on the ground so RMA'ing will be slow.
Let's just say my next board will be DFI and this thread will not put me off at all. You will hear isolated horror stories on all board manufacturers. I am quite surprised to see this thread when i couldn't be more pleased with my board and the result. I sure am a DFI fan now.
I like to say thanks to DFI for making great boards and going to the trouble of providing extra BIOS settings and little extra features you don't get with other manufacturers. I do feel you get more for your money with DFI. I do suggest you improve your website and promote yourself better though.
I also give thanks to jonny_ftm on here for giving me the nod on this board.
I really recommend the LanParty DK T2S especially for Quads. I'm sure it overclock duals real good too.
10/10
btw. love those aggresive memory timings feature.
It was a great and fun overclocking experience and i not finished yet.
My NF2 rocked... NF4 was kind of fun...
No secret DFI boards are a pain to tweak though... lol my NF2 was moody... some days it would boot some days not... sometimes she would run my 2400+m at 2.7ghz others i was lucky to see 2.4ghz.... either way it was still a rocketship and a fun board to tweak and play with... I had the infinity model and it would do 260 fsb easy.. then i blew the NB with my volt mod and got the lanparty and i couldnt clear 240... too bad...
Seeing DFI's post NF4 boards it looks pretty hit or miss... some boards have support and some don't... some are really well designed like the P35 and others are piss poor like the 680i... My rule of thumb with DFI is to wait a few months after release to make sure it's not a flake... but with DFI's incredibly slow product cycle it seems that their boards are always outdated at launch... and for a while thier stuff was all too expensive... thank god they got the dark series going... I miss the old school infinity that was just that same as the lanparty with all the junk pulled from the board...
Come to think of it i've never really had a mobo that i hated... Each one has it's own personality... I think my favorites usually come from asus though... usually asus midrange offerings are great... thier high stuff is way out of my price range..and usually doesnt perform much better anyway... I'm really excited to try gigabyte as i know that they have highest QC in the industry.. .plus it's hard not to support a company that releases a full featured OC monster at the $100 price point.
My NF4s have all taken more than their fair share of abuse and none have failed yet. From 2v vcore and 4v dvimm to extended sessions of -160'c. Seems you just had bad luck:shrug:
My NF4 Lanparty is flawless, the only reason why it didn't become an only board is the lack of ECC support (which I might have been able to hack up in the OS bootloader but never really tried).
The Infinity boards, and I had several for 939 and 775, are all junk. They kind of do what you want in all default mode and they have good voltage options. So far so good. But any kind of exotic hardware or any other demands from the BIOS are instant epic fails due to whoever makes these boards for DFI (they are made my a different manufacturer, not DFI) never, ever adds fixes to the BIOS for things other than new CPUs.
