I bought a bunch at one point when they were selling them in mass quantaties for cheap. Trying to decide to just use these or buy some high speed yates. I can send you one for testing if you want!

*also, I've seen it asked before but didn't catch an answer. What fan would you suggest for blow holes? Planning on running yate loons all around, would they be fine for blow holes? At the price I'm not really concerned about longevity.

Is it worth upgrading from Antec Tri-Cool to those Zalmans in your review, Vapor? Because I have a whole case full of those anties, and they're pretty loud for my taste even at "L" :(
So I need silent fans, I'm thinking of buying Zalmans and running them at 5V but my fear is that there won't be a difference.

i like to have a very silent computer and i use the scythe sflex or the zalman zm-f3. the scythes are quieter but the zalman has better performance. so i use the scythes where i don't need much airflow and i use the zalmans where i do need it. both though are pretty quiet fans.

just had a question inregards to case fans.
im just putting a perspex case together, and im looking for two large exhaust fans for the roof of the case.
i was looking at antecs big boy which is a 200mm fan and has a airflow of 134 CFM .And the other was the ULTRA KAZE 120mm 3000rpm/ 133.60CFM .noise isnt an issue for me but the ability to suck hot air out from the top is.
so would u reccomend these fans? has anyone used it or knows if it performs well as an exhaust fan?
another choice is one of those yate loons u recomend. that san ace isnt available in australia and probably never will.
any suggestions?

would u say its capable of sucking more air out than the two i mentioned ? especially the ultra kaze that has airflow of 133cfm? the scythe xflex only has a airflow rating of 63.7CFM? its much lower . does that mean it less able to suck air out?

Yes, the Ultra Kaze will suck more air out of the case.

yep i think ill buy a few ultra kaze fans .from what ive been reading they seem fairly effiecent.
just trying to work out what they mean by static pressure fan? i know what static pressure is and how it effects airflow but how can they call a fan a static pressure fan? might just be a gimmick.

Why do you need ~120CFM of exhaust airflow through one fan?!

And it's a fan designed to have higher static pressure....which usually translates into better radiator/HSF performance. Calling it a static pressure fan is just one way of saying it's a fan built for radiator/HSF duty. They came out with the Slipstreams (which every time I see someone put on a radiator, I cringe) simultaneously and called them open air fans. Not a gimmick, but some people really don't understand why or when one fan is better than another, so they're trying to direct people toward different fans based on their needs.

thanks for the reply,
basically, im looking for two exhaust fans, which will be placed on the roof of the case. i want these to be as effecient as possilbe. ive wasted alot of cash on fans in the past and they just simply dont work well. so this time round i want the best possible exhaust fans .becuase im not a fan expert , the only way i can judge the fans ability to push/pull air is its cfm. noise isnt an issue for me .i relize u recomended some brands there but there just not available in australia. so i have to find other brands.

edit* ill just add this , the reason i want two lge fans on the roof is ,hot air rises so ill have two fans on the bottom sides blowing air in and two lge on the roof pulling air out. im trying to create airflow from the bottom to the roof. if hot air rises i figured this is the best way . i also will have fans blowing against the cpu and chipset .and thats just on the top level ,theres a bottom level thats sealed of from the top where the rad pump and res will reside.
its a perspex case i made so i can have square holes cut anywhere and mod it in anyway.

When designing proper case airflow, you also need to be aware of the
amount of turbulence you are creating by having strong air-streams
perpendicular to one another. Air is actually a poor thermal conductor,
so we rely on a clear-path exchange of intake-to-exhaust for efficient
heat removal. Speed is key here. And too much cross-current turbulence
can actually result in less efficient cooling if it slows the removal of
heated air from the case. something to think about... sometimes less
really is more.

Now if you DID want to use a side or rear exhaust fan, what you could do
is duct the exhaust so it doesn't interfere with your primary bottom-->top
airflow pattern.

Thermalright makes a flexible 120mm fan duct that will allow you to
vent heated exhaust from your cpu straight out the rear of the case.
Just another possibility :)

hey , have any of u heard or now about sirocco fans ? i found em in this little electronic store for $25 aus. the gy reckons there really good. they are ball bearing fans not sleave.

just found out there from a company called howden. apparently theve been around along time,(1857) and there fans are used for industrial purposes . there fans were used in vents on the titanic?
im thinking these might be good quality fans lol.

I have no clue how well centrifugal fans work empirically, never tested them.

i was just looking at some pics of centrifugal fans, i dont think these particular fans are centrifugal .they look like normal looking case fans. theres no housing like the ones i saw in pics.i think these are desiged for pc.atleast there advertised for pc.but im still trying to get more info on them. they look the same as most pc case fans but much more solidly built.and there heavy ,very heavy.

All I'm turning up in Google is that the Sirocco fan is a centrifugal fan with 64 blades invented by Sir Samuel Davidson in 1898...a lot like the fan in GPUs (actually, those fans are based off Sir Samuel Davidson's original Sirocco fan design). The guy is on the Northern Ireland 50pound note too...but mostly for other stuff it seems :p:

why howden call there fans sirocco i dont know but theve been calling them that for many yrs.
im going to look at them again now , ill find out there specs and model number as well. if the gy convinces me though i may buy em. im easily convinced and a bad buyer lol

just had another look at em. i wont buy em . the 120mm bearing fan has dBA rating of 42 way to loud.
air volume is 2.3 m3/min the model is yx-2518 and they dont come with connectors u have to buy them seperatly and wire them up.
not worth it. ill keep looking.

@Vapor there is a san ace fan which is being sold that has the same amp and looks like the H1101. Its label is 109R1212H1151. could they be the same awesome fan ?

thank you for work, it gave some great insight on extraneous noises. You could probably help me out on a decision since you have experience with every fan I own.
I have a total of 6x fans in my PC, they are all 120MM

3X Scythe S-Flex "E" - on radiator
1x SilenX SX-12025-14 (on accerlero s1+8800GT)
1x Cooler Master 120MM Aluminum Fan (exhaust)
1x Antec TriCool Blue LED on "LOW" (hard drives)

I purchased two yate loon blue led fans from PTS to change out the SilenX and Antec but now im wondering if that would be smart. I haven't received the fans yet but I want to know which configuration would you use for absolute silence?

edit* the much hate SilenX has some outrageous claims on their website on this model (14dba/50cfm) I know the cfm has to be wrong but is it really 14dba?
and it seems like the triCool has a lot of extra noise.. not air moving but something else..

would I be better off leaving my config now? or switching both out for the YL Blue Leds from Petra?

i had a silenx fan in my case. it was the 74cfm 14dba one i think. theres no way its 14dba because i replaced it with a zm-f3gl (green led version of the zm-f3) and the zm-f3 is slightly quieter. i like to have a almost silent comp myself so i use the 1200 rpm scythe s flex E of silence or i use the zm-f3 for power and silence. the scythe can't be heard at all and the only noise you hear from the zm-f3s are the sound of air being pushed out.

It's the same fan, just the 38mm thick variant.
