When you all say it won't support DX 10.1 you mean it won't support Dx 10 at all rigth, only dx 9?

No.
Microsoft is making a revision to DirectX 10, which will require hardware support.

There is currently DirectX 10.0.
And there will be DirectX 10.1.

If a card supports DirectX 10.0, it will not support DirectX 10.1.
If a card supports DirectX 10.1, it will support DirectX 10.0.
If a card supports DirectX 9.0c, it does not support DirectX 10.0 or DirectX 10.1.

If a card doesn't support DirectX 10.1, but DirectX 10.0, then it still supports DirectX 10.0.

6xAA is gone, it was replaced by 8xAA in the R600. ;)

That might find it's way to some PC game when it's time to upgrade card again. :p: Will prolly take 1½ years+ b4 some games might utilize DX 10.1.

For me DX10.1 isn't that interesting now but if they fix the AA issue ATI might get interesting.

That's another thing, if Dx 10.1 games are not out in full force within 6 months not a big deal, it will be time to upgrade by then anyway.

I am going to grab a 8800GT and if I need a dx 10.1 card in the future I will get one but until that happens I won't lose any sleep over it.

DX10.1 dont add much. And there aint a retail DirectX 10.1 you can apply on your Vista box. Thats atleast some 3-6months away.

DX10.0 was the big GFX thing. DX10.1 is mainly sound APIs.

I doubt we see any DX10.1 games before in a year or more. And even then it could easily be 2. Just look on how long it took to go from SM2 to SM3. And DX10 today is less than a handful of games. And they are all heavily sponsored.

But we might want some kind of DX10.1 soundcards before the GFX counterparts.

DX10.1 support is only a marketing gimmick for now. How well do you think games that might utilize DX10.1 in let's say in 1½ years will run with a RV670? I wouldn't have big hopes for it. And even then you'd only see it in a few big titles that could be compared with Crysis and UT3 today.

For marketing purpose DX_10.1 is a perfect key element.
If G92 do not support DX_10.1 is very bad in features related. ATI as a lot more features to show that NVIDIA don´t have: HDMI, HDMI-Audio, DX_10.1/SM4.1,independent HDCP keys for the 2 DVI outputs.

In performance G92 looks good, but the lack off DX_10.1 will be crucial. You can talk all day saying that DX_10.1 is nothing but 90% off people will go for the most featured card.

99% of people aren´t informed about those details that you know and simply pick the most advanced in technology. DX_10.1 > DX_10

HD 2600 and 8600 sold lot more then X1950pro/XT and they are worst. They sold purely because the ticket in the package saying: "DX_10". Again DX_10 > DX_9

Same will happen with these cards.
Average Joe looks to a box and see in one DX_10 and in other DX_10.1.
In 10 seconds he is picking dx_10.1 box and don´t even care about the DX_10 card.

The winer in this round will be the GPU with the best relation performance/features/price ;)
RV670 looks a good candidate for that place. Specially because DX_10.1. It as a enormous weight in marketing.
G92 looks with strong performance. If G92 will support DX_10.1 it will be a very nice card, otherwise is just an opportunity that Nvidia is losing to make very strong sales.

Your blocks won't fit a regular 8800 card, rather unlikely to fit them on a 8800GT.

Time for new ones... ;)

from the article the nvidia control panel showed 86C! damn thats hot! no wonder they had thermal issues.
