cheers mate,I'll have a look 2day...I want to get the sanding/polishing done by the end of the w/e....I'm busy all day 2day so it that leaves's me All day Sunday to get it done...A lil ambitious but i think i can do it...Quote:
They usually have packs or single sheets but it depends on the store. Some things their stock can be patchy. Like rubber grometts. They have a rack with every possible size but half are missing. lol
after seeing RX7boricua's rig...sik stuff!
I decided to change my loop colour's a lil bit.....
I wont be using any green...Taking all my green fans out and doing 2 blue loops and 1 purple loop in between them to break up the colour's
any comment's???
or should i stick to my original plan of blue, green, purple?
cheers
kk i went to supercheap auto and got sandpaper and mother's aluminum polish..i'll start polishing later on after dinner...
cheers
Sweet, polishing away watching Bathurst sounds like a good sunday.
Have my build in front of the box. So it's pump mounting, a cold one and watching Frosty Winterbottom push the ford over the mountain for me.
Sound's good hey....Quote:

I actually got bored and sanded the middle section....just then
i sanded my my middle divider in my lian li v2000 started @ 800 move up to 1200,1500 then 2000...
Took me a good 2hours of work....sanding done moving onto polishing....
It's still far from mirror finish....
I hope i did it correctly...I made sure there was plenty of clean water...added dishwashing liquid and Stayed on each grit for about 25mins....
Moving on to the polishing...after i eat..Running on empty atm...
Will post a pic when i done.....
Seeing how your probably the only person who post's in my thread regularly
What did you think of my idea...Of 2 blue loops and the 1 purple apposed to green, blue and purple...
I know you your not into the light show thing but a second opinion would be great.
cheers
I think the blue as your overall colour with the purple showing through here and there is a better colour scheme than three colours. It's hard to get even one colour balanced so you don't have one area really bright and another in shade. Trying to sort multiple colours seems too difficult to me.
Maybe loops with varied colours works without coloured uv fans, but if you have blue uv fans then a blue loop fits and a purple one to provide a hi-light makes sense to me.
Blue uv fans and three diff coloured loops is too luna park.
But understand I'm an old guy, conservative approach etc.
ok i'm back after polishing for a an hour straight,I'm starting to see result's...I'm a little disappointed as it doesn't look no were as near as good as dark prodigy's job...
I continue polishing tomorrow...Maybe a couple more hour's of polishing will give me a better result...
Does anyone know how long it will take to get a mirror finish? I don't want to polish for another 5 hours and have no benefits from it..
cheers
Bloody hard yakka, isn't it
I've pretty much decided to cheat and use the acid strip method if I do any again.
Only prob is the guy selling Magic Mix in Oz sells a kit designed for truckers. Been half planning to share the stuff with someone if I ever get it.
me? lol
It's getting there slowly...Bloody hard yakka alright....
lol
It's enough to do wheels, gas tanks and bull bars for a couple of Kenworths, so only wanting to do one panel or so, it'd take half a dozen guys to use it up.
Waiting until my build is finished to decide if I add polishing or painting. Once polished I'd have to keep it that way. Bit of a rod for my own back.
cheers
The sulphuric and hydrachlorich acid does all the hard work of stripping the oxcidised surface off, instead of sanding. Then the polish drys on and seals the surface from air. So when you polish off the dry grey powder it leaves a sealed mirror surface.
The truckers use it to get a mirror surface on rough al bull bars!
Sure, it's cheating but life is too short.
did another hour of polishing...
Getting a lil better...I was told to get some of mother's billet polish it supposedly performs better than the mother's alu polish...
I'll see if supercheap auto has it...
Keep going ... you're making progress!
(I love the talk about Bunnings and other Oz landmarks ... we really miss Australia after having lived there for 3 years. I think I was at Bunnings every weekend with my husband, picking up this or that. I do feel for you guys ... as progressive as Australia is, it always surprised me that electronics and computer stuff was hard to come by.)

where about's in Aus did you live?
oops ... not to divert the thread - but we lived in Sydney. Had an apartment in the Rocks overlooking the Harbour for the first year, then moved to a house on the Middle Harbour area for the next couple of years. A fantastic experience. Got to travel all over the country with my job.
I couldn't find any mother's billet polish today so i ordered some online...
Should get soon.... I polished on and off allday doesn't look like it's getting better...
Hopefully the billet polish works better..
Request:
hmm how about documenting with pictures said polishing and more polishing, i think i have i strain from reading "polishing" too much with out actually seeing the improvements.
Sounds like nothing to show but perspiration until Mother's Billet arrives.
We could talk to Shazza about sydney harbour while we wait. lol Tis the only thing I really miss about sydney.
Ferry rides and skiff racing on the harbour amongst my fave memories. Although not at the same time. We capsized near Shark Island one afternoon and thought the Manly Ferry was going to go over us.
