E6600 + Asus 680i Striker Extreme

Also in Asus probe mate, so you tell me you put 1.62 in your bios and it reads 1.6 in probe. That's amasing and how I would like mine to react (but with lesser values then hehehe)

Could you have another revision than me ( my vendor was pretty sure it was the new batch from Asus they got not some old stock. I'm gonna transform this mobo anyway to a watercooling setup gonna have alook at the chipsets....

What happens if you lower your overclock , multiplier does the voltage stay at the same level, does it change... ?

ill have to experament with it, but im sure the cpu gets that voltage ,couse thats what it needed on the p5w64 and badaxe . for the cpu to be stable .the only problem im seeing a bit off ,is that with so high fsb is that,the nvidia raid is not always dedecting my 4xdisks in raid 0 array.but when it dedects it ,its stabil .this is what 3dmarks 01 is giving me with 8800 gtx card .http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k1=9140480
dont look at the 4,555ghz as the cpu is running 4,059 .future mark cant read the 8x multipler . i would say the score is about right for these clocks?

Guys if you want vcore to scale as you increase vcore in bios for now you need to use 0402 bios while it undervolts the vcore set it still scales the vcore instead of fixing it at certain FSB /straps

Well after two days of testing my striker is dead (i hate it anyway board for 350€ with all kind of problems...):slapass: i had problems getting over 440fsb so i decided to flash bios from 701 to 802 and that was is seems the end of the board i just get "CPU INIT" on the debug display with any cpu (6700 retail, 6850es, 4300es)...I guess il take the Commando now but i dont know what to do with 2x 8800GTX...:stick:

it might not be dead.. clear cmos/battery out for 24hr overnight and see what happens

Looks like 0803 is official release of 0802 , flashed ok for me at 2000 fsb still will see how it goes, got a horrid squealing noise after flash which i had with 0802 so had to remove battery but came back ok

I read somewhere else that some guy got a new bios chip replacement pretty quickly so u might wanna try talkin 2 asus.

But on the other hand I RMA'd my board a month ago and i still haven't gotten it back.......

I had the same squeling noise after flash, but my board didnt come back after removing the battery.

I want to get a Striker cause
The evga 680i boards all have a severe design bug...the cursor gets erratic
whenever a heavy load is put on the CPU, such as prime95, FEAR,
etc. For this reason, I want to get a asus but only if it does not have this
bug. Could someone please test for this as follows: run the Intel
Thermal Analysis Tool and put at least a 80% workload on both cores.
Then, move your mouse cursor around see if it fails to track and gets
fanthom mouse button clicks. This is a random problem, so
you might need to do this a minute or two to test. Also, upping
the CPU core voltage intensifies the prob, but
in all cases, a load must be on the CPU to cause the screwup.
Superpi and Prime95 running simulaneously will also trigger the problem.
Can someone run this test and report the results?
This prob is 100% repeatable, and happens on all evga 680i boards.

Finally, does the Asus 650i/680i mobos have 'smartfan' implemented
in the BIOS?

Sorry , cant seem to get tat to work with the striker but i havent seen the error you had with the evga tbh and i have had orthos and Superpi running together

Striker lives i sucsessfully hotflashed the board today :D

hello; i'm pretty happy with this board and even the BIOS it came with: 0701. I have run orthos for a while...i've been playing for a couple days and no crashes...but i have heard a bit of wierdness at times with the sound, well i heard a very wierd noise once while playing m2tw...like electric guitar feedback (yeah baby???)

Anyway; maybe 0802 (or 0803official?) will fix any sound glitches...so far there is nothing prompting me to change the BIOS i have right now. I dont need any more cpu voltage.

BTW, in 0701, my vcore would change with the strap.
Ex: FSB from 1333 - 1600 = vCore fixed at 1.40v
FSB from 1600+ = vCore fixed at 1.50v
below 1333 vcore reacted to selection in BIOS pretty accurately.

Seems like there is a strap to vcore association mixup.

That Vcore "fixed" is exactly in my Asus P5N32E Plus too :slapass: which based in a same PCB

Same prob here with TAT, a guy on Abxzone runs it with his EVGA, weird it gives an error when opening on the Striker.

Andy does your board overclock with 0803 I can't seem to get it over 300FSB then it shuts down and I need to pull the battery to get it alive again...

I reverted back to 0402 that works with a mega Vdroop

Yeah i am on 0803 and currently running at 500x7 . pretty much the same as all the other bios releases , none of them seem to make any difference to mine tbh , i have managed to run mem at 600 5:6 at 5-5-5-15 but there is no benefit over 500 1:1 4-4-4-12 so thats where it is

BIOS 0803 fixed my faulty temperature readings.

In addition, 1666 FSB Strap vCore is now locked at 1.45, instead of 1.50v.

BTW Asus BIOS 0803 has been pulled from the ASUS servers.

i dont even need an updated bios anyway since i cant really overclock this quad i have.Temps too too high to try anything right now

I flashed to 0803 - pretty much NEED the 08 flash to take care of the sound issues when running a pair of 8800GTX in sli. Anyway, I flashed using the BIOS EZ Flash tool and it bricked the board (again) on the reboot. It did the same thing going to 0802. Only this time, there is no squeal during power up. Just a typical sounding power up, only without the beep. The LCD is stuck on CPU INIT. I left the battery our overnight, but did not set the jumpers and button to CMOS clear. It's in that config now, and i'll let it sit through the day.

Has anyone tried running 4x 1Gig matched sticks in this board? if so, does it work and what is the bus speed/timings that you're using??

Contacted Asus and they are sending a new BIOS chip (overnight shipping for $20) loaded with BIOS revision 0804

There was no mention of what it will add - I just NEED the popping in my Sound Blaster to go away when i have SLI enabled - which is pretty much all the time.
It would be nice to think that i could get 1.525 volts out of this board without taking a solder iron to anything so i can get back to 3.6GHz with this Xeon chip though - without the stuipd high temps.
