Its more of an educated guess, windows comes with firewalls, virusscanners, memory clogups, whatever, pure DOS is allways better, some users here already pointed that out. I'll have my friend do an update to 0711 from DOS and if he stops having the cold bug issue then there's some truth to it cuz he already tried flashing from asus windows update and he's still got the cold boot bug. Will report back when he has flashed with AFUDOS.
0711 fixes the problem, period. PC will still ocassionally shutdown when coming out of BIOS, e.g. often after changing CAS latency or at certain FSB speeds. But it is way, and I mean way, less frequent compared to previous BIOSes, when system would always shutdown, regardless If you even changed anything in BIOS or not. Plus, with the new BIOS, I have yet to see machine to shutdown when restarting from Windows (which was always the case before). Also, system will still do the "double-start" or "double-spin" (or whatever you want to call it) when starting up cold (e.g. after normal shutdown and then turning off your PSU). That's no biggie at all, as power to HDDs is not being cut-off.
AFUDOS will flash whole area, including NVRAM and DMI. In some cases it's better than Asus Update or EZ Flash (btw, I flashed 0711 using EZ Flash and had no problems after clearing CMOS). For instance, for those that have problems with PC Probe II install (saying mobo does not support it), look in CPU-Z Mainboard tab and check if mobo information is there. After one BIOS flash before I had this happen that this info was missing (blank) and I could not instal either PC Probe II nor AiSuite. No flash helped until AFUDOS was used. After that, all went back to normal. Just something to keep in mind...
Within the 0711 Bios, Is there an option to enable the Serial ATA BootRom for a raid configuration like it says on page 5-30 of ythe manual or am I missing the obvious? :confused:
yes bachus_anonym, it`s nice that the cold boot problem is almost gone, but what I realy want to know is, what solved this problem in the bios? :)
I mean, why is asus not aplying this to all the bios updates ? I`ve bought a second sound card, so I must get a 2 pci based board
only option is asus and my local dealer only has the DH version but this board has the shutdowns on starting ( and restarting ) HDD power downs with scary clicking :toast: and I think it`s time to solve this thing
I have no idea what they did but latest BIOSes for P5B non-Deluxe and P5B-E (both i965) also have this "feature" removed (at least according to changelogs).Quote:

I used the original bootdisk2bootstick tutorial and just erased all the non hidden system files. So Autoexec.bat, command.com etc are still on there. WIth only these files i have room for afudos and my bios rom :)
The flash drive boots but gives and error and leaves you at the A: prompt. I flashed using afudos / ip5bd0711.rom /pbnc /n and it went fine. I cleared cmos afterwards.
Unfortunatly it still doesnt install Probe2 or Ai suite though :mad: :mad:
ok, so no extra option of the world famous tRD / read delay and Row refresh cycle / Trc in the bios ? Because these things fix the cold boot...Quote:
