I did notice that there was a P5B BIOS recently released to resolve conflicts between the P5B and the 7950GX2, but I haven't seen anything like that for the P5W.

In general, I have been pretty unhappy with this motherboard, but everyone is suffering from one problem or another. I may jump to that Abit MAX, or one of the new 590 boards if/when they become available.

Without turning this into a bash asus thread-- this is my third motherboard in a row from Asus that I am having lots of issues with. I may be done with them.

For what it's worth, my board (bios 307) seems to run best at 4/5 divider at 400/500 at 4-4-4-8 at 2.4v vdim, 1.5+ on vcore. 3900 on water, 4400 on phase. chipset at 1.8v.

:confused: Funny - mine does async (no matter what DDR) a poor max. FSB of 356.

But here is my first 1:1 - and :woot: , it works. FSB 370 so far still with 1.35 Vcore:

I also notice this quite a bit when the machine has been allowed to go on Standby. When it comes back, sometimes, it is okay, and sometimes, it freezes with no display (and hard drive lights on).

I have a 7950GX2-- do you have the same adapter, Natalia?

It's very very annoying-- so annoying I was going to ditch my P5W-DH and buy the P5WDG2, but I guess that plan is not going to get me anywhere either!

If you or anyone find a solution, I would LOVE to know what it is.

Doesn't happen too much for me, maybe 1 in 5 cold turn-ons. Which is like once every three days since I don't do a lot of turning it off for long periods.

Have you tried a tRD value of 7 from BIOS? If that doesn't work, boot to windows and use memset to change tRFC to a higher value (I use 42) then use Ai Booster to raise the FSB 10Mhz at a time and you should be able to get to at least 400.

:clap: This sounds very promising - I tried tRD of 7 in BIOS without success.

But I never changed tRFC, will try it now with the memset thingie. I had the same feeeling that this bug is only caused by BIOS - board is doing FSB 440 sync:

Good stuff, I had the same problem myself :). It'd be great to have a BIOS that allowed this RAM timing.

People have got 470FSB on this board unmodded.

Kingdom for ppl who made 470 on this board...
I hit 445 spi16mb stable. Hitting a wall with a head wont help to get more.
tRD - 7, tRFC - 42, Changed cooling for NB and 1.8Vmch, 1.5 VICH.
Booting at 420 and raising more with clocgen...
Any other ideas ?

It can depend on the CPU. Also, as you increase FSB you need to increase vCore. Try raising your vcore a bit and see how you go.

This board doesn't have 1.5vICH? If you mean 1.5v FSB Termination voltage you should only set it to 1.4v max. Set vICH to 1.2v.

Try changing all the BIOS settings to what's here. If that doesn't work, you could volt mod it or get someone to volt mod it for you.

Just got this board. I can boot at 470, but only pi bench at 466. Have to run async though. Ripped off that Workstation rubbish on the nb and stuck on a 40mm.

Asus Prob says my power fan is spinning at 65535rpm...:P

Raising Vcore wnt help. 1.35 is enough to 3.6GHz, but it wont go...I was trying even 1.6Vcore...2fsb more -> crash....

Your running FSB:RAM 1:1 right?

To sum that article up, turn off/disable all the CPU and memory themal throttling, speed stepping and virtualization bios options, set vICH to 1.2v and FSB_Term_volt to 1.4v

I think 445FSB is pretty good, I needed sub-zero cooling to get to 450FSB

See how the above goes.

I need fsb 470-480 or 4:5 multi with fsb 440-450 :)

I had to set tRD to 7
Boot at around 420FSB
Use memset to change to a higher tRFC (I use 42)
Use ASUS Ai Booster and move in 10MHz steps up to 450FSB

Either way, volt modding will help.

:( No success here. Still have tRD 7 and tried to boot at my max async FSB of 356, set all volts to the default of 400 FSB and changed in WIN tRFC to 42.

System crashed at 365 FSB........... :stick:

Sync I can get 440 FSB, this is max. Is there an advantage to raise the FSB voltage from 1.4 to 1.5 ??? :confused: MCH is already 1.8 and ICH 1.2.

I feel only better BIOS can cure this issue or I have to buy a 64-WS PRO... :slapass:

I only use the 1:1, 4:5 and maybe 2:3 RAM ratios for high FSB clocking.

I've found that FSB voltage above 1.4v can cause instability.

Also, as you increase FSB you may need to increase vCore. Try raising vcore and see if that helps but as always, watch the core temperatures.

Info from here, try these settings in BIOS:

Disable Max CPUID Value Limit
Disable Execute Disable Function
Disable Enhanced C1 Control
Disable Virtualization Technology
Disable CPU Internal Thermal Control
Disable Intel SpeedStep tech

Disable DRAM Throttling Threshold

I'd suggest the 0004 BIOS but it seems you're already using it. Maybe try the new 0307 BIOS.

Thought so, the E6300/E6400s seem to have no trouble booting at high FSB. Nice one BTW :)

4:3 divider, interesting. Have you tried running 1:1 with looser RAM timings? You should get better performance.

Living in Canberra must help with the ambients :D

Haha, not really, constant 16C in my apartment all year round. :D

I can't get above 390MHz with the 1:1 irrespective of timings (my mem does up to 450MHz 4-3-2 on most other boards).

My P5W DH was much better with 5:4 multi. I`ll try it on P5WDG2 also...But it`s much less bw on memmory, even with 3-3-3-8... I`ll give it a try..

So far iam stable at 380fsb at 1:1 but i dont think i can go much more.The board is much more stable than my p5wdh was.I have bios 307 but may have not have the right settings.
