MSI 975X Platinum PowerUP Ed..anyone?

I got my MSI 975X from Ewiz a couple hours ago. It was version 2.1 power up edition for those of you wondering :) . The install went smoothly and the system started up normally. The only problem I ran into was installing my Big Typhoon, this was because my case was completely full. The biggest problem I am having right now is horrible temps. I am still waiting for my conroe so I am using my ES PD 950 and at 12x200 1.16Vcore I idle at 48 in bios and 52 in windows :(. If I even try to go to my stock speed of 3.4 Ghz I start getting into the mid 60s. My board came with bios 6xx. Aside from this, I can't seem to flash the bios using the MSI live update thing, can anyone assist me in this? I think my temp problem may be because I did not apply the thermal compound correctly or maybe I did not tighten the screws on the big typhoon enough. Can anyone help me with my heat problem and also help me with the bios flashing?

Lol that was quick.. its 6:42 in the morning here (UK) ok I'll look for a ver 2 board. I suppose I can take it out of the box and check the PCB.

dont know but u might nee a floppy or have to put it ona disc
as far as heat i would uninstall, clean off cpu and hsf, then reaply and re seat the bt

As an Intel motherboard user I have always been used to the auto bios update and don't exactly know how to flash via floopy or CD. Can you tell me how? And about the heat, how much thermal compound should I add? Any other tips? Thanks. It takes a long time for me to install the Tt BT so i don't want to mess up.

Do a google or forum search on how to flash a BIOS. it's easy :) Just a few DOS commands.

Basically, you get the BIOS and put it on a bootable floppy as well as a DOS flash program from MSI (should be on their site or something). Then you boot up and run the program (type DIR at the A:\ prompt if you don't know the exact name of the program) and follow what it says. You can do this with a USB thumb drive too.

Ok, I have a USB 1 gig drive ready, so how do I boot from USB? I just change boot sequence to USB drives and put the bios file into the MSI flash program and just go from there?

I'm not sure as I've never done it with a USB thumb drive. You might need to reformat it as a Bootable Disk in windows (My Computer, right click on the drive, format, check "Make Bootable Disk" or something like that)

BTW, ewiz has the MSI 975x V.2 back in stock and on their site.

No..i am not using stock hsf....i am using TT Big water 745..

I just ordered from there. ResellerRatings shows 8.75 Lifetime and they accept Paypal...so you can use your bank account. :) I'll let you guys know how it goes once I get the board.

When I had to flash the bios on a DFI, I simply downloaded the file to my hard drive and double clicked the icon and it saved it to a floppy and everything. Then I just booted to floppy 1st and that was it... I don't know how to flash an MSI mobo either:rolleyes:

sorry i was gone guys i was playing dark messiah
well b4 on my msi boards i was able to use the live bios/live update
first what goes wrong when u try and use that

heres how its supposed to be done if ur not using live update

Users who download BIOS here(not using Live Update) should use the flash utility, attached in the downloading compressed file package, to conduct BIOS update. To avoid BIOS update failure, please don't try to use the utility which is the old version or not sourced from here.

After clicking the downloading hyperlink, there will be a pop-up window appearing for you to select a server to download files you need. To make sure this pop-up window can be opened smoothly, please disable your anti-pop-up program and authorize our site in advance

I don't have a floppy drive and I can't get my board to boot from my USB even though I formated it as a bootable drive and changed boot sequence. Don't know what to do now. I am underclocked 400 mhz and running 54 idle now :( with big typhoon.

what does the live update do when u try and use it to flash? make sure your using IE also since from my experience Firefox will not load the msi live update period

i used floppy drive to update the bios....with this syntax:
awfl865 w7246ims.711 /py/sn/r/cc/cd/cp/f

make sure the floppy drive is bootable and good...

No Floppy, cant get the USB to boot. Does anyone know how to get this to work with a CD?

ah nice altho simple wfl865 w7246ims.711 woulda done it, havent seen those commands in a bit, whats /r and /f? i know

/PY is the command to program the flash memory
/SN is the command to back up the old BIOS to the floppy??
/CD is the command to clear the DMI data after programming
/CP is the command to clear the Plug'n'Play data after programming
/CC is the command to clear the CMOS data after programming

Do I simply burn it or some how burn it as bootable CD? Will it boot if I just burn it? And about your PM, I will respond in just a sec.

nah simply burn it, if you set it to boot from cd and you got the system files on there it should boot just fine

you can see it in awfl865 /?
/r is the command to reset systems after programming
/f is the command to use flash routines in original bios for flash programming

However...what do you guys used for monitoring temp?

download LiveUpdate 3 and don't use the auto update, go to the liveupdate folder and then you will see Award folder and then WinFlash.exe and follow this instructions, make sure to select all options on the left

this site for reference how to use the winflash, don't use the winflash version on this site.
