But you are comparing a VERY overclocked Opteron/X2 to a stock Conroe. Do you really think ANYONE at XS is going to sit back and run any of these chips at stock?
A fair comparison is OC vs OC and stock vs stock. In ALL non-GPU bound tests Conroe SPANKS K8 (OC and stock). The K8 doesn't must a SINGLE win.
Futhermore, getting 3.4-3.6GHz out of Conroes on AIR looks to be pretty easy. Above that, a challenge (but don't we all like challenges?).
I have REALLY liked AMD, my past 5 desktop computers have been AMD systems, but I'm moving over to Conroe as soon as the prices come down a bit (probably late Aug, early Sept.). The performance difference is just too large to ignore.
Next summer, I'll take a look at K8L and maybe switch back. But AMD is going to have to offer me some SPEED to move over. Just like Intel did.
