E6300 ES @ P5W DH Benchmarks

Ive recieved my asus today, put it all together but its not posting. It powers up, fans spin etc but no picture and no beeps except for one occasion which was one long continuous beep non stop. The power light is red too instead of its normal green.

This is with an E6600 ES step 5, could this be a bios version problem ?

Any ideas ?

reset the cmos
take the battery out
jump the pins
insert battery

then see what happens.

Did you ever get your board to boot? If all else fails, you may have to go to your local computer store and buy a cheap LGA775 processor which you can use to boot up and update the BIOS.

Here's more proof confirming my suspicion that the Asus board is faster clock/clock than the Bad Axe. Same RAM and timings used. Asus board got almost same 32M time with 106 fewer MHz.

you need Bios 0502 or newer.

Does it allways happen with ES chips to need bios update with asus P5W DH ?

hum will the retail chips also need to have bios updated ? especially for the poeple who have buy the first batch of boards sold out there.. ?

It depends on which BIOS came with the board. My board had 401 which is not even listed on the Asus site. I had to use my Cedar Mill CPU to boot up. I then flashed to 065 and later to 504. If the board has 502, then you should be okay.

Yes, good luck. Fortunately I had Cedar Mill before Conroe. The Cedar Mill 631 is a very good overclocking chip, though it's obviously not as good as Conroe.

So if that clamshell fits I bet that Scythe ninja fits also, but I´d like to see that someone confirms it.

Just talked to my usual resseller and told me update bios seems necessary for owners of stepping 5

Nice from him to propose me flashing if pbs at their office ( no need to specially buy another CPU :banana: , although my chip isn't step 5 I think )

This is a problem for people who do not have a spare s775 lying around.
Slightly off putting if the thing will not boot out of the box.

Not many people have this board, so chances of getting someone now to confirm whether your HSF will fit are slim. If you really want the board, buy it. And if your HSF doesn't fit, just get another HSF. The board is more important than the HSF. I wouldn't buy a board based on whether a particular HSF will fit or not.

Yes, that's true. But early adopters of just about anything have to put up with hassles of one sort or another. lol.

Buy a cheap old socket 775 celeron to bios flash or flash bios chip in other mobo with force option.
