Asus P5W DH Deluxe [Over-View] LOL

there's a friend of mine who just got this mainboard (with a B0), but he cant chancge the vcore, I have no clue why, since he update the bios with the newst one. Does he have to make some mod like in the intel or what? Because he told me that he can see the vcore adjust option, but he can't change it.

I noticed that I only see three sata connectors grouped together for the southbridge controller on this board. Where is the fourth one? Will I be able to connect 5 sata drives on this board? 3 in raid 0, 1 for storage, 1 for backup.

There are indeed 3 on ICH7 2 on the new SIL 4723 steelvine chip and a 6th internal and 7th esata as well.

If you can stand to have just 3 on the ICH7R and the rest on the SIL 4723 you are gtg.

I have a hunch they used the fourth port to run to the Sil 4723. Why? Because the Sil 4723 is supposed to run seamless raid with any ICH7 mounted disk. That leads me to think it's literally an extension of the ICH7 4th link. Seem reasonable?

Now the obvious question: why o.0 ... wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to run either an ICH8(R) or a SII3132 from PCIe to 2xSATA300 .. :S

It seemed logical. I'd bet they didn't believe the ICH8 was going to be debugged enough in time to graft it onto a 975x northbridge and have the board to market by the end of June. I have a funny feeling Asus suspected Intel might be early, lol.

Now who would have wanted to be in the meeting where the exec stated "hey I think Intel will be early this time"? rofl

Hmmm ... so why not run one of the ICH7's ports over to a SiI 3726:

And have :banana::banana::banana::banana:loads of SATA ports :D (or better yet, run all four ICH7 ports through 3726's, have 20 SATA ports and call it a leecher special edition :toast:)

On a side note ... can anyone find a device that actually uses the SII3726?? All that my googling can turn up is this: http://www.cooldrives.com/cosapomubrso.html

Sounds like it'd be the perfect device for mounting inside on of those external sata raid box type things, then you wouldn't have to worry about the processor speed etc of the box (cos its all handled by the 3726 :)).

Anyway, enough o/t stuff

That's probably how Abit got their boatload of SATA ports.

Sleeping now. We'll learn more in testing. Probably fair to say the P5WDH shouldn't be over or undersupplied with SATA ports. Enough and that's fine by me.

Nah the Abit has 6 from ICH8R, 2 from a JMicron JMB363, and 1+1xeSATA from a SiI3132 chip, for a total of 10 (says: http://www.abit.com.tw/page/en/mothe...&fMTYPE=LGA775)

Great car I always wanted to buy one to play with, 383 R/T would be sweet with little bit of modernization, like uprated lowering sprigs and big alloys :)
BTW, I'm going to use P4 630 with this mobo until I have my Conroe/Allendale.

Overclocking Features: SFS (Stepless Frequency Selection): allowing FSB tuning from 200MHz up to 400MHz at 1MHz increment.

It seems pretty clear that this MB doesn't run FSB below 200MHz.

The different bus speeds always confuses the hell out of me, but the D805 runs at 133Mhz FSB. At 200MHz you can sometimes succeed to get 4.0 GHz but needs water cooling. I have not been able to get my 805 above 170Mhz FSB with my Zalman CNPS9500 cooler.

It aslo looks like this MB doesn't have Native DDR2 800 support:mad: .

It's the memory multiplier that's in question. If you're running at 200MHz FSB, you need a multiplier of 4.0 to get "native 800". Again, I'm no expert - Tom's Hardware states:
The various memory multiplier values available in the BIOS vary by motherboard vendor. The 4.0 value isn't always selectable, so buying the wrong motherboard can lead to performance degradation. In most cases, vendors refer to a memory multiplier of 4.0 as "Native DDR2-800."

Compare the Memory specs of this board with the P5WD2-E Premium and the P5WDG2-WS. You will see both of these state Native 800 support. The P5W DH doesn't.

A bunch of guys in a German forum are running a 805 and Celerons on their P5W-DH 'til Conroe goes retail. I also got a 805 here but I'm still waiting for my board.

Just had same after a bios flash. only Auto was there in the vcore.
Clear the Cmos using the jumper this will being back the vcore options :)

Can confirm 805 works and very well - at 4Ghz rock stable with silen air cooling and the ambiant air is hot in the UK atm
