I don't think it will help. The cpu_fsb jumper change seems to be more for us sad people who spent $$$'s for the new 333fsb cpu's and got blown away by the older 233fsb cpu's.

Yall know when Asus and Epox and every company is saying that the 1 and 2 are the faster timings...and yall are saying 2 and 3 are...well...they are the same! We are just calling them different slots! :p But I picked this picture up off of www.8rda.com and it shows that the 2 slots we were saying were the same as what asus and every other company is saying.

ok, back to my findings, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A POWERFULL ENOUGH PSU, I just got my self a new sparkle 400w and it was limiting my overclock, so I change to a enermax 350w and its better but I still feel it needs a true psu:toast:

why do people say to move the FSB jumper from the 333/266 default to the 200 setting? I'm confused as to what that does if you already have the ranges of 100-250MHz you can choose in the BIOS.
Because apparently you can then run higher stable fsb speeds. That seems to be my problem atm. I can get into the bios at pretty much any speed I want, but as for windows, I can't get in at any high fsb speeds.Quote:

It has nothing to do with the available fsb's in found in the bios. They remain the same. It just fools the bios into thinking the cpu is a 266 instead of a 333.Quote:

I had memory failure running memtest above 195fsb. I switched the the jumper (check the link for procedure) and I could run memtest up to 215fsb with more aggressive settings. This made me stable for a normal running setting of 12X200 5,2,2,2 with air cooling and no volt mods. Couldn't do that before for squat. Why? Who knows. But it seemed to help others who tried it too.
Somehow the 333 fsb cpu's are keying into a different memory model. This seems to be only one of a few issues in getting high running fsb's. People who tried it who couldn't get above 175-185 before didn't really see a big difference. People like me, who could run up to 195, did see the improvement.
Hey, if you have a 333cpu, try it. clear the cmos, reset defaults, and see what happens. It beats having to cut an L12. You never know. One guy posted he was running benches at 220 fsb with hoh cooling after the change.

The jumper change made a huge difference for me. I went from 194 stable to 205 stable. I can bench up to 211 but I get periodic freezes so I leave it at 205.

Did you do a volt mod on your A7N8X? I see in your sig that you're hitting 2.5ghz at 207FSB. The highest I can go with the Bios Vcore voltage maxed is 2.41ghz or so at 1.85.

don't get your hopes up on the cpu_fsb jumper. The gain is with 166fsb cpu's it seems, but don't let me stop you from trying. You never know. NB and SB cooling, that's what you want to watch. Go for 230 , if the memory will hold.
It's the bios not your mobo or CPU, hopefully they will have the cold boot problem addressed in a future bios update. I experience it to as do many others. That's one hell of an oc by the way. :toast:Quote:

I tried moving that CPU_FSB jumper, and all it did was give me some practice at clearing the CMOS. I guess cause I already cut the L12 3rd bridge on my XP 2700+
So Sys, did you get the §§§§§ to submit to your iron will, or have to buy a new one?
Moving the jumper gave no increase in headroom or stability for me with a XP2800. I can do 216 so far.

K guys, need ur help...just got a prommie so i decided to finally put together my comp. Problem is..when i hit the power button prommie goes down to -33 and then the system starts up...u hear it power up the light goes green on the mobo for the power. Now With/or Without a AGP card the red light for AGP doesnt shine.....and no display on the monitor.....blank screen..also nothing boots ......it turns on and thats it....the cdrom spins and the harddrive spins and thats it........no floppy boot no nothing.....please help me out....ive spent the hours i shoulda been sleeping cutting my case and putting it together......if i need a new motherboard i think im gonna snap. IVE WAITED 3 WEEKS FOR MY PROMMIE and now i cant use it! HELLLLLPPPPPP.....please

Cool. It really seems to do the same as the jumper cut. Check things out with memtest86 v3.0 and you'll save yourself some drive corruption. Been finding that whatever the fsb that passes with memtest, a lower fsb will be needed to run a complete 3dMark. But then again, pmm's vdd mod will close that gap. It doesn't do a great job in memtest(just a little gain), but it brings up the workable fsb's in windows and 3d apps.
With all the xtreme mods you're doing, it'll be interesting to see where you go. While there are exceptional boards out there that do OCing with no mods, I think the average board needs tweeking.
I'm at 11/215 vcore 1.75, vmem 2.8, vdd 1.75, vagp 1.7, cpu agr, 6/3/3/2, xms3500 2&3 with my 2700+, nb active, sb active, swifty w/4000rpm so I'd expect you to blow my doors off.

Does the CPU volt mod also raise the the chipset voltage? If not, have you posted a chipset voltage mod? I have a feeling that's what is keeping me back.
I'm at 202 * 13.5 = 2727 with a 2800+. Mem is 6-2-2-2T Kingston HyperX 3500.
Secondly, instead of hot glue, can I use seal-string to hold the wires while testing a volt mod? I haven't done anything yet, and want to play first.
Lastly, thanks for the system recommendations so far.

I geuss you could use seal string, I'm not sure I haven't played with it myself, but from the looks of it I've seen in pictures I'd say yes. I'd recommend solder though :P
Only changes are 1.9v on chipset, 2.5-7-3-3 timings, 236mhz was sisoft stable @ 2-6-2-2. Chipset temps @ -5C, umm that's about it. Ish fasht!

Terramir:::Check the jumpers on the drives, make sure the one on the far end is set at master. The one connected to the middle of the cable set to slave. Be sure these are done properly, and check in the setup screen (bios) does the system recognize the master and slave? You may have a defective cable, maybe the power supply cable is not plugged into the drive properly. Other than that, you may have a defective drive. You may at last ditch effort. Change the middle device to master and move it up to the end of the cable, change the end device to slave and than move it to the middle of the cable and check again.
I received the second A7N8X/dx mobo yesterday and had it up and running within about an hour.
Flashed to the 1002 bios and the XP2400 is unlocked by bios as I wished.
The system is running great maybe even better than the first one.
We did get a bad board from NewEgg a week ago, so we were down for a week. They did refund the money for it.

well this is the 2nd A7n8x/dl i'm having as i RMAed the 1st one cause i f...ed up with VDD.I took the board today and i started all over again and this time was a success!!!The problem is that with the 1st board and without the VDD mod i was 195 bus with no problems and i could boot to windows up to 211.I had measured the VDD 1.58v.
With the new board and without VDD mod i was stable at 183mhz and could boot to windows up to 188.I measured VDD 1.58v.Well i think this is very strange!!!
After doing VDD mod iam stable at 195 but at 200+ i have problems in 3dmark.VDD 1.74-1.85v.For cooling i have Titan cooper heatsink on NB and the board's heatsink on SB.
I think maybe i need to burn in the board for a few days but i would like to know if you have any suggestions for hitting200+.

sysfailure:::I have used this bios since the day it was available from ASUS download site.
It is a good bios, almost great bios.
The shutdown and bootup times are cut in half from the 1002Ubr bios that I had been using.
The cpu temps are down about 3-5c also.
Most everything else is about the same as the Ubr in features available and performance.
Well I noticed that the Finnish guys who hit 250mhz fsb used the 1002A. Today I am on a mission to hit 250mhz myself. Gonna crank 2.0v into the VDD and hopefully w/ the 1002A I'll hit it.

I´ve just voltmodded my A7N8X. But when I use voltages over 1.9v it wont boot after I shut it down. It works fine restarting and using the reset-button. But whenever I shut it down I have to take out the battery and clear cmos.
Anyone have any idea why that happens for me?

I know for certain it's not my A7N8X board :P When I wake up tomorrow I'll try and prove that 100% by using my Kingston hyper x in 1 slot to show that it's my memory holding the fsb back. And as for the CPU holding me back well, it's not going much past 2.6ghz :(Quote:

I think i´ve found the problem. I read somwhere that when the computer first boots it don´t use the extra voltage just the maximum of 1.85v. So that´s why it wont boot for me att higher speeds.Quote:

Seems like the only way to fix this is to put som copperwire in some of the holes in the socket. But I hope it is something that can be fixed in a new bios release.
altair4 I would look real hard at your PSU 5v rail, I don't know what video card your using or the rest of your system but the A7N8X uses the 5v rail for vcc, if your using a R9700 Pro then your 5v rail is taking a beating. After I did all of the mods to my A7N8X and R9700 pro I went through 3 PSU's b4 I found one that didn't go below 10% on the 5v and 3.3v rails under load.

The strange thing is that if I don´t shut down my computer I can run fine on higher voltages, it´s just when I shut it down that it wont start. It seems that if I boot at speeds that needs the extra voltage to boot, then it fails. But just restarting from ie. exiting bios works just fine.
I too am useing the Antec TP430 PS and never had a problem. The extra draw for the vid card seems to not overload a thing for my system. Before this PS.
I used the PP412 and it is still in the system the wife is using, same A7N8X/dx system no problems on that system either.
I just do not understand that some people have to use a 550 watt or even higher in order to run stable.

Im going for at chipset-Waterblock this week, and then a new soldering iron.... I did the Vcore mod and it wasnt hard, the vdimm actually looks easyer. But the vdd is very small thats why i need the new soldering iron :)

I can't get even the slightest performance out of my A7N8X Dlx. Any tip would be welcome. Components:

With that system I seriously expected to hit at least 200Mhz FSB, but there's no chance, anything past 175 will make the system unstable. I've tried various voltages on pretty much everything (allowed by the Uber-bios), maxed out RAM (2.6-2.9V), maxed out Chipset Voltage (1.6-1.9V) etc. etc.
I notice that my SB-chip gets VERY hot, and the passive sink on the NB gets rather hot too. Other stuff that could cause problems: PSU (300W), but all voltages look ok, no fluctuations, as close to spec as I could hope for. I've disabled SATA with the jumper (don't have SATA-disks yet) and currently don't use any 1394-ports (disabled in bios together with com1/2 etc.).
I really think I should be able to reach higher FSB, especially with the RAM I just bought, matched pair of CMX3200LL's, 2*256mb.
I don't have any cooling on the SB/NB though... Could that be it? Getting frustrated. Also, would a better fan on the Alpha help me go past 2.2Ghz on the 1700Tbred-B?? Is it likely that I need to do any modding to get even higher voltages to get the bandwidth I want? It sucks to run the RAM @ 333Mhz (no, I don't want to go async).

ps. I did manage to boot @ 200Mhz, but the screen was garbled with broken dos-text etc. agp-freq. was fixed at 66Mhz.
Try moving your FSB jumper to 200 from 266/333 ... That SHOULD do something for your max FSB ....

Good cooling on chipset should help u, I had like 7-8 fans in the case and I could do 210 FSB, after going to WC (On CPU) and removed the fans I could only do 170, because of heat!
Therefore I have ordered a block for my chipset ;)
Thanks guys. Another thing that made me suspicious of the heat/performance of the chipset was the fact that when running the chipset at 1.7V the Soundstorm clicked, I got some disk errors etc. and when I lowered to 1.6V it turned out ok again.
Time to order me a few fans, sinks and make a few holes in the case.. ;)
The über bios doesnt really work. So perhaps sound just clicked because of heat
I've RMA'd the board. Even when running 12*166 (lower than the RAMs spec.) I get the "System failed memorytest" one time out of four. And that's without any voltage increases or overclocks at all.
Somethings shady with that board.

but what I recommend is to rma and get another board, the good boards must be able to reach 200mhz without any mods,
I have try many boards and I can tell you this if it doesn't reach 200mhz stock, it sucks:rolleyes:
You want a board that can reach 200mhz stock, so you can increase with mods, getting to 200mhz with mods is just plain wrong:mad:

If it wasn't for the §§§§ty FSB/RAM-problems, A7N8X Deluxe is an excellent board. Guess I was just out of luck with my particular board.

Hy, did anyone had a problem with 'locked' vcore on an asus a7n8x non dlx ? After installing my 2500+ on this board, the vcore is 'stucked' in 1.85. If i set it to auto i get 1.85, if its set to menu it only shows 1.85v option. I've taken the cpu out, cleaned it and rubbed some as3 on it and problem remains..
If someone could give me a piece of advice i would aprecciate.

I am alread using the lastest one.. Do u really think a previous bios could solve it ? once i have no other ideias i think i'll give it a go.. brb with results.
erm.... Vcore increasing without reboot ?! In a minute i've a reading of 1.88 and temperatures of 51ºC idle and in the other i have 1.68 42-45ºC idle ?! Flashed to previous bios, same problem. an btw, forgot to mention, my +12v rail was around 12.9 and nowis around 12.6 :?
wow thats too high, I suggest getting a multi meter and check that out, maybe is just a software issue, not real voltages, is thats real then it might give you problems:(, but I would try a different psu, that could be the problemQuote:

Booted at 255 today it was stable enuff to get some benchmarks and a snapshot timmings were on the poor side CL2.5-4-4-8
Weeee just got me an Rev. 2.0 A7N8X dlx after my second 1.04 died the bios death.....
It does like 221 FSB in memtest atm so im pretty happy (Stock mobo for now)

Where to read Vcore on a7n8x board (with a Vultimeter)?
I know where to read Vdimm, Vdd... not Vcore. I mean I got points where to read Vdimm and Vdd that not where to do the Vmods. There is also a pin where to read Vcore, that not the pin where to Vmod it? ;)
I'm getting mighty tired of my board. After I RMA'd it, they sent it back a week later telling me it worked perfectly well.
I've gotten a Barton 2500+ which seems like a nice chip (2.23Ghz without trying to push it). What is NOT good is that I still can't get near an FSB of 200Mhz. Thus, with my mucho expensive Corsair TwinX512 matched pair of 256mb-modules, I get 2.5Gb/s in Sisoft Sandra. Feels like a complete waste to run the Corsairs @ 356Mhz (6-2-2-2).
I managed to powerup @ 200Mhz, but the computer just froze when the first text was showing on screen.

The common solution to this is to buy a vantec iceberq cooler (or re-use the stock cooler although I don't recommend it) and attach it to the northbridge using a good thermal compound such as Arctic Silver 3 or similar. The thermal pad used by epox is almost as strong as frag tape, so to to safely remove the heatsink, snap out the pins from the bottom of the motherboard (carefully, you will re-use these) and point a blow dryer directly at the heatsink for about 20 seconds. After heating it up for this short amount of time Just pull off the heatsink as if it weren't even attached. Oh and be very careful not to burn yourself on the heatsink! For those of you who didn't realize air had such a powerful cooling effect, you can definitely see the opposite of this evidence when you get a nice blister on your finger for not following my advice! Installation is the reverse of removal: Apply a good amount of thermal compound (over apply a bit to help overcome the poor shaping of the northbridge), line up, snap in pins. Below are two pictures of the vantec cooler properly installed.
Once you have it off, you could do this :D

I solved the problem by touching the sink with a soldering iron. The sink loosened easily. To get the sticky stuff off wasn't as easy though. No way to remove it with fingers or a piece of plastic. Drove to a local electronics shop and bought a can of CRC Electronic Cleaner, sprayed the NB and it wiped off like melted butter :) No residue left. Lapping is definitely needed, but at the moment I'll go for a nice, thick layer of AS3 instead. Works fine.
i used some good termal grease and mounted the nb hs again, then i stuck a zalman hs on the sb.
believe it or not, cooling the sb helped me to get from 195 to 202 fsb!
EDIT: dual channel fo course and my board is an a7n8x deluxe rev2.0 "gold edition"
235dc with only 1.7v vdd and a 5v delta on the nb :) i like this board!
240dc 2-2-3-9 with 1.7vdd and higher rails (14v/5.6v/3.6v)

i got 205 out of the box, then i did the L12 mod on my 1700+ to make it look like a 333fsb cpu and got it to 210/215fsb.
after doing the vdd mod i can run 3dmark at 255dc now :) (only stable for max 30min, then it crashes :D)

And I heard you can trick your MOBO into believing the fsb on the chip is slower. Is that still agreed upon, or a fluke?
Also, another question ;) what the heck does dc at the end of your 255 stand for:confused:
