Sandy Bridge Part 3 - Integrated Graphics Study | LAB501

very interesting, cheers monstru, this looks to be a promising socket
Just got a quote for a Sandy Bridge build:
Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge 3.30Ghz 6MB LGA1155
ASUS P8P67 LE Intel P67 DDR3 USB3+SATA3 LGA1155 PCI-E
Kingston HyperX 2x2GB DDR3-1600 CL9
LG GH-22LS50 22X LightScribe Black SATA DVD Writer
Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB 7200RPM SATA II
Seasonic S12II Bronze 520W Power supply
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD6870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E
Lian-Li Lancool PC-K56B Mid Tower Case
At the moment I'm considering changing the mobo to P8P67 M Pro (Not sure of difference but many seem to say its a fantastic board and its only $10 more). Is there any other decent mobos in this pricerange? ($270 NZ or ~$200ish US)
Also unsure of PSU as I will be putting in one more HD - Will it be able to handle the jandle?
Otherwise looks good to me - Any thoughts on this build?
Your PSU will do fine, imo.
Yes your PSU will be fine, Adding another card for CF might starting being your threshold..
Thanks guys. Unsure of the motherboard though - isn't the one I've chosen the smaller type?
Smaller one compare too?
Actually I just realised that I'm looking at the M version of the mobo which is this: http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/comp...p?partid=14253
Not the normal one as it is way too pricey:

Is there any other decent sandy bridge boards that are available on that site?
After all the good feedback from part 1, I feel I was able to come up with some pretty informative testing for all of you:
[Review]ASUS Maximus IV Extreme – Sandy Bridge VS The World (Part 2/2)
well done miahallen
definitely recommend the lower latency ram if you can afford/justify it. Everything goes through ram :)
Thanks mia, giving it a read now :)
So far quite good mate, Can you enable image saving though ? :)
Even easier -
Firefox - right click the thumbnail and click "save link as" ;)
IE8 - "save target as"
Very nice review but I'm seeing better numbers in Boinc than you showed.
I'm running a 2600K on WCG thru Boinc and it's MUCH better than a Bloomfield.
I mean better than any Bloomfield I've seen numbers on.:D
This is at 4634MHz..
Average credit per CPU second 0.009550
I asked in the WCG section how I should test, and the only suggestion was with the bench built into BOINC, so that's what I used  I guess I should have PM'ed you as well :p:
Anyhow....I'm glad you enjoyed the rest of it Dave

I think I am the last one having my review done :p:

hey miahallen, I read your review and I got to say you did an excellent job and it was very unbiased and honest.
You spoke the truth. Ive never see you write until now and i'm very impressed with your writing skills. Its a pain in the ass writing these things and you managed come up with an outstanding review. :toast:
Ive been very torn about buying a sandysetup because of how it doesn't scale with cold and if I cant bench it on ln2 then it would have to be my replacement 24/7 gaming rig. I already have a x3540 and x58 sabertooth as my 24/7 rig so I dont see the point of getting one. If I had the cash to blow I would for sure get one just out of curiosity but I dont have the cash right now. You answered all my questions with this review and I hope you get to keep all the hardware because you earned it.
job well done buddy! :)
at least you are honest. ;)
"If you currently own an X58 based system, your choice is not so cut and dry, and I think we’ve been able to determine here that while better, the difference is not so outstanding as to be worth it for most of you. With socket LGA2011 promising to have jaw-dropping performance later this year, an upgrade from LGA1366 to LGA1155 would be short lived for sure. My personal daily rig (i7 920) will be staying on X58 until LGA2011."
regarding LGA2011 i hope this aint true from maximumpc
One Socket to Rule Them All?
We’ve been warning readers that LGA1156 was a dead man walking for months now. Well, meet its replacement: LGA1155.
Yup, just one pin and your board is officially obsolete. With LGA1155, Intel is introducing four new chipsets, with only two that matter to you: H67 and P67.
There’s no native USB 3.0, but SATA 6Gb/s is now supported on up to two ports of the south bridge—support on all the ports would be too costly.
The key differences between the two chipsets is that H67 offers support for the internal graphics, and overclocking will only work on P67.
One big question is whether LGA1155 will exist only for Sandy Bridge. There have been rumors of moving the new Xeon socket LGA2011,
with its quad-channel memory, to consumers later this year, but we understand that Intel is now considering going back to a single-socket lineup.
LGA1366 will be supported with updates this year, but after that, LGA1155 could be the only game in town.
Sandy Bridge Washes Ashore
And they'll let Bulldozer dominate them? Doesn't make sense.
They better release some outstanding CPUs and chipsets with decent native USB3, SATA3 and tons of PCIE lanes. But don't think all of this goes well with using just 1155 pins...
I don't believe they are implying that Intel won't release it as a server socket, I'm sure they will. I think what they are saying is that Intel won't release consumer based boards for S2011.
Also I'm not saying this is a true statement, just that I believe you misread it.
Thanks trans am :toast:
we've already seen leaked images of consumer boards....so I doubt this holds any weight ;)

Yes, they're the same
cool. the xshwbot team thread is a tightly knit bunch its the 1st place I go to see what is happening. pretty much all the active members have messed with sandy bridge except me and I asked them what they thought of it.
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...postcount=2903
is there a reason they have no dramatic scale in cold? its so strange to me why everything has scaled with extreme cooling until now. i can understand if it was a simple cold bug but even with a cold bug at -70c you would at least see a heavy increase over h20 / cold air temps. its beyond me. it makes me want to get some ln2 an bench all my old crap again and see if I can break my old personal records.
I should probably insulate this sabertooth board and see what this x3540 can do and if i kill it i buy a sandy rig to replace it..
Gigabyte UD7 vs ASUS MIVE
Good comparison by Miahallen for those interested.
