Hard to imagine I've had this thing for nearly a year now. Haven't changed a thing, not even the water. Tubing and water still crystal clear.

Yep. I had been doing some drawings for making enclosures for the systems, but the battery for my digital calipers has ran out and i haven't had any way to get a new one for over a week!

I;m thinking on putting an Arima or two back online. Need to make up for my 2600k being MIA.
I been trying after long time get that bios dump outside of the board that boots into windows (extreme unstability) but i think board is half-dead.
Problem list :
1. Board refuces to detect any SATA devices.
2. Board refuces to go into BIOS, it just locks.

I think i need remove bios chip, buy another matching ARIMA board, and hope this BIOS chip works on new board.
i contacted these people for a replacement bios chip when an IEI mini-itx board bios went pear shaped - they sent me a new chip pre-flashed :D

My bios do have ACPI support but board is mostly dead.
The BIOS just needs ACPI code in it for Windows to work. Nothing else is wrong with the board for running Windows AFAIK.
Maybe I'll buy your Windows-capable ACPI BIOS chip from you if you end up junking the board.

I'm just booting up my Arimas after a summer hiatus. I can't get either one to post. I suspect the power connections as a couple of those adapters had leads that were pushing through. I made sure all had good contact but no luck. I was able to get them both to "power up" with just LED 3 and 4 lit. But not POST though. I am having the worse luck with computers lately.

How long are you leaving it on before shutting it back down? It takes probably 15+ seconds to POST mine.
I left it on all morning while I was at work.
Now I can't get any response out of one. I'll try the other one in a bit.
These are seriously the most finicky boards that have ever lived. When we bought these and I was testing each and every one I was getting the weirdest behavior I've ever seen. I sent the weird acting ones back to the seller but it wouldn't surprise me if our boards start acting like this. Mine wont connect to the internet. Sometimes it wont boot. Sometimes it takes a long time to boot. It wont accept the original video card I had in it anymore so I had to install a different one. Bottom line..start reseating /changing things out until you get it to boot. It takes patience.
Edit: Oh, and then never turn it off again :)
Mine has been running 24/7 with almost zero restarts. I came home a few weeks ago to a fried electronic smell and now it will not post.

Ya, if I ever get them to boot, then I won't shut it down until I replace it with something. This sucks.

I got a Dell N1000P-00 power supply modded to 3x 8-pin EPS and can't get any post or any sign on the computer. The power supply works perfectly with my Tyan S4985. I'm using an Opteron 8222 and four 2GB DDR2 ECC Reg. I have all four CPUs and a bunch of memory sticks, but for initial start I read something about using just one CPU in the socket CPU0 and four DIMMs that go with that CPU. Any suggestions??? Thanks
Can you take a pic of how you have everything setup, especially the power. You need more than just 3 eps (need a six-pin in there too) to get it to boot. Also, I don't think installing all the cpus and ram will hurt or hinder anything so go ahead and get them in there.
All four DIMMS in the slots near CPU0? Not spread out amongst all of the banks.
My two Arimas are the same. Won't post after sitting for a long time. I'll try again next week in hopes for SC week.
The one plug needs 2 EPS connectors, the second plug needs 1 EPS and either a 6 pin PCIe put in backwards or (what I did) a second EPS with the leftmost wires clipped.
All 4 sticks go in the CPU0 slots.
These boards are also extremely picky on video cards. I tried a couple before I found one that worked. Seems that generally speaking these boards don't like nVidia cards, and only some ATI cards work. I have a PCIe X600 in mine.
It also takes a good 10-20 seconds for these things to even POST.

First off, thank you for the replies! Above are some pics I took of my PSU connectors and my motherboard. My PSU used to have a 20-pin connector that I cut off and solder to two 8-pin connectors. The picutures will say it all. I don't get any power to the motherboard. ...btw, the PSU is in working order because I'm using it on a tyan s4985. Any clues? Thank you!
Did you jumper the green wire from the original 24pin plug to a black (ground) wire to switch the PSU on?

:) not a problem. See, the Arima doesn't have a typical power connector, so it doesn't trigger the PSU to turn on like a standard PC does.

Yeah that's what I have in mine. It likes it well enough.
Could also try any random PCI cards you may have lying around just to see what happens.

I'm not 100% ceretain but every board I've ever seen uses a non-rechargable battery. Every recent board I've seen uses a CR2032 for the CMOS battery which is a 3v Lithium battery. If it's too dead it might, maybe, prevent the board from POSTing but leaving the power on won't charge it.

Thanks to this thread OP, I got my atima running rather nicely with 4 8354! I had to flash bios to 1.04 to be able to enter bios menu. Thanks to AmiJIm for uploading the BIOS!

Ok guys, I just got some thin clients bought from a chinese website! Unfortunately, the they don't support linux. I've been reading this thread from the beginning of it and read that everyone is having issues installing any version of windows server. Anyone had any success installing any widows server? Thanks
The Arima boards in this thread aren't Thin Clients, they're Google server boards and they will, with a little coaxing, run Ubuntu though I think it's the server install not the desktop one. If anyone has gotten one of these to run any version of Windows Server I haven't seen it mentioned.
I'm running Ubuntu desktop on mine. Don't ask me any config questions, I honestly don't know and just blundered through the setup lol :p: Hey, it runs, and I haven't had to do anything to it since I built it over a year ago, so I'm happy :D

What I meant is, this arima board only supports Linux, right? I am trying to build up a server running Windows server 2008 because my thin client won't support Linux. So, that's why I'm asking if anyone got Windows working on these boards! Thanks for your input!
Ok, that makes sense. I think I read somewhere in this thread that the Arima board doesn't support ACPI in a manner that Windows requires ... or something.
I'm not sure if you are referring to Thin Client hardware or software. If you mean software then you might be able to get the Arima board running using a Linux based OS but then use visualization software to install Windows Server within that.
so do you think you could crunch with these heatsinks and keep them fanless? or would i need to have fans as it wont be in a windtunnel case like server heatsinks expect?
