It has the waterblock on it now that was just preliminary testing... The results on my warm water aren't very impressive though. :p:

nice one linux, i'm getting my new 480 this week hopefully it willbe better than my first one
470 clocks really nice.
This is my EVGA 470 on stock cooler and 1.087v:

anyone see the Xbitlabs article of the 470 SLI owning the 5970?
http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...tx470-sli.html
since it is a lot more expensive setup I hope the hell that 470's in SLI beat the 5970 :rofl:
Hi guys!
In my Gainward GTX480 i have default vcore = 1.1v.
That's really bad?
That was an excellent review, those 470 SLI Fermi's did very well considering that these Fermi's are still in the first generation driver wise, while the 5970 has had almost a year of driver updates! Nvidia's revisions should be quite a bit better by the time the dual GPU card arrives or if it comes at all! Nvidia needs a new GPU cooler as the older design isn't adequate anymore, a complete redesign is needed!

Replaced by GF104 architecture
Nvidia's mainstream Fermi generation got cancelled. It's not tragic, as the promising GF104 architecture takes over and Nvidia's future mainstream as well as entry level chips will be based on this improved architecture.
Anyone else noticing huge soft clock barriers on these cards? I think it might be memory controller related but I dont know. For example:
PNY GTX470: 937mv default VID
PNY GTX470: 965mv default VID
SLI 937mv stable in BFBC2 with
700 core
1700 memory
Crash randomly with same settings in Fallen Earth
SLI 950mv stable BFBC2
700 core
1700 memory
Stable in Fallen Earth
SLI 950mv stable BFBC2
730 core
1750 memory
Crash randomly with same settings in Fallen Earth
I dont know if its a SLI thing or what but there seems to be an enormous soft cap with these cards so I am wondering if the numbers we see people getting are "really" stable or not because these cards seem to randomly crash after long long long term usage eventhough on some games/tests it appears fine.
Pricing? I guess you can't count then:
$329.99: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-550-_-Product
x 2 = $660
Cheapest 5970: $699: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-887-_-Product

Vistageek92's GTX 470 on LN2. Probably wasn't a good idea to use W7 32-bit for Vantage but thats all we had when we benched it. :(
Card responds to extra voltage and clocks really well in Vantage.
Wish there was a Coldslow mod BIOS, its a PITA.
Benched between -40 and -53oC on TEK9 6.66 Slim.
I agree, the higher VID chips appear to clock much much higher than the lower VID chips. Also Id like to add that OCCT has been the only program I have found that reliabily gauges stability.
Ive had these cards pass furmark for hours but hardlock in certian games and going by OCCT's clock suggestion 700/1731 has been the only thing that is 100% stable.
For those who are overclocking these chips I highly reccomend using OCCT GPU tool.
Beats me!
Maybe something to do with it being plugged in to the 2nd graphics card slot on the R3E?
Wonder if that would lower the score as well possibly?
Actually ran 3dmark03 and the score was really low compared to the air runs we did in the 1st slot earlier with same system CPU settings.... Maybe you just helped me find a cause! :)

How in the world are you getting these 900MHz overclocks @1.050v? Are you using some kind of vdroop program? Seems like you've had excellent luck with your MSI 480 clocks at low voltages! There has to or should be a program out there that has vdroop settings as vdroop is one reason why an overclock would become unstable.

We are out of LN2 but in 1st slot the 470 now runs at x16 2.0.... Thanks IvanG for pointing that out! :D
nothing special, this card is pretty good, i don't trust afterburner at measuring voltage much so i can't really comments on what droop i have. Plus the vgpu read point on that card is kinda tricky and i don't think i can hold my dmm's probe by hands for so long :D
i cant overclock my core any more? i was able to a while back but now i cant wtf

I need some help for a decision here.
After reading many reviews about the GTX 470 I still don't know if I should buy one or the Radeon 5850. From what I understood the GTX 470 is power hungry, very hot and somewhat expensive for it's performance but has extra eye candy like Physx and holds great even with heavy tesselation. The 5850 is cooler, has decent power consumption (although the toxic version was drawing more power than the 470) and is about 5 to 15% slower than the 470. I've always been on the "green team" side since my first computer (RIVA TNT2, GF2 MX, GF4 MX, GF6800GS and currently GF9800GTX that is holding fine) so I'm more inclined to buy a Asus GTX470 and I found a buyer for my 9800GTX.
The target resolution is 1680x1050 (most of the time) or 1920x1080 (rarely).
I posted here to get the opinion from the real enthusiasts.;)
System specs here, and "recent" pics from my setup here and here.
Thanks.

Some 470 fun! Just got a couple 470s and a 480, did some runs with the 470 on air and cold, that a nice little gugger! I just flash it to an unlocked evga sc bios. Only prob even with msi AB was not able to go higher than 940 core.... need to find a better bios... here's what I got so far...

Really nice ! Congrats
I think the better buy is the GTX470 even if you don't plan on overclocking the heck out of it, I noticed that your i7 920 isn't overclocked, are you planning to overclock your CPU and GPU? Nvidia's Fermi's are doing pretty well considering there still on first generation drivers! Get the GTX470 that has the larger flow ports in the rear if your going to keep it on air cooling. :yepp:

I'll get a GTX 470 and report my experience later on!
Thanks!

P.S.=>Overclocking can be done easily to 4GHz (20x200) using 1.27v and temps go to about 75c (prime95, 8threads). I normally get a aftermarket air cooler when it's available, mostly from ArcticCooling, so I can get better overclocking results on the GPU.
My 9800GTX runs @ 58c with 842MHz core, 2000MHz shaders and 2400MHz ram from NVIDIA stock clocks.

question ppl
tested one palit gtx480
the mem doesnt seem to go more than 2085 and gpu is at 905 at 1.138 stable
isnt this mem kindda low comparing to some ppl here who is running at 2200??
any ideas
also theres a ferrite choke whin when i changed to wc block
also noticed this
the msi ab beta 6 only works with original non modded 70.00.21.00.02/80/82
Any idea how much the VRM on the stock PCB GeForce GTX 470 heats up (stock clocks) if it does not have any cooling on it?
Here are my stock results. Keep in mind, PhysX was enabled but attached to a GTX 260. I'll run again with it disabled but tend to keep it enabled for Vantage.

Finally got my GTX470 from Asus.
It runs very hot on load, about 90c and 47c when in idle. Dual monitor temps are about 75c! I changed the thermal paste from that sloppy job to some AC MX-2 and got 2 or 3c back.
I was able to reduce dual monitor temps by reducing memory clocks to 209mhz using nvidia inspector. Temps are about 55c now.

I haven't begun overclocking the CPU or cards yet - this is all stock. I see some folks getting above this with SLI 470's. Am I CPU bound with the X6 1055T? Would moving to an Intel i7 make that big of a difference?
Thanks!
Ok,
So I have two Asus GTX470's in SLI. I came home yesterday night and started playing BF2142 and during the game I was getting random pauses where the video would stop, but then restart as though nothing had happened. I went and uninstalled all my Nvidia software, i.e. Nvidia Physx, Control panel, etc. I then used driver sweeper from Guru3d under safe mode to remove all the drivers and what not. Then I reinstalled the 257.21 drivers, again under safe mode. Went in and started playing the game and still got the random pauses. I started the game over and had GPUz running this time so I could monitor my cards on the second monitor. I noticed that my GPU clock kept dropping from 607Mhz (stock) to 405Mhz during the game and the voltage would drop also. So I disabled my main card using the RE3 onboard PCIe on/off switch. The pauses went away, but I noticed the same fluctuations in my GPU clock. Any ideas what could be going on?
My setup is as follows:
RE3
980x @ 4.138Ghz
2 x Asus GTX470 at stock speeds
2 x Intel 80Gb G1 SSD in RAID 0
Enermax Revolution 950 PSU
Cooling is:
CPU is water cooled
GTX470's are water cooled by a Koolance GPU-220 GPU only block with the stock sink for the memory and VRM's. My temps never exceed 42c under load.
I haven't done any bios flashing on these cards and as I stated before I uninstalled the drivers, used clean sweeper to clean them off the system and then reinstalled the drivers.
Any ideas would be helpful. On a side note, I did have an issue with my system not wanting to boot at my overclock settings the other day, left it alone over night and everything went back to normal. Not sure what is going on, it's like I have gremlins in the system messing with everything.
Thanks.
little update new betas drivers dont want whql yet
a minor OC
http://i644.photobucket.com/albums/u...hzcpu_4ghz.jpg
Yes I know exactally what's going on, before you immediately dismiss what I say I want you to look at the bolded parts as to why I came to this conclusion. You have a slow leak coming from your CPU block; likely one of the barbs, see highlighted parts as to why I think that. If you have a slow leak what's the first thing that CPU block is going to drip on, your MAIN card. Also when you leave it overnight what does that do? It removed the positive pressure in your lines causing the leak and dries the water on the card. Check by the PCI-E slot, my money is on a leak ecause I had the same issue and swore Id never get w/c again after I ignored it and blew out my vcard.

Gigabyte GTX470 851/915 , stock cooling 3Dmark06 28937 .
Cpu temps where to high for HT but when temps go down 30k wont be problem, especially with moded bios for 470 and Spitfire.
So it turns out my main issues were caused by bad drivers. Took me 4 hours, but I finally got the system cleaned and new drivers installed. Now both GPU's are functionally correctly. The only issue I have is why does the GTX470 drop to 405Mhz while playing BF2142? The only thing I can think of is that because it isn't using all the power of the GPU's it drops down, any ideas? It does stay maxed while doing a vantage run.
No just dual monitors. I am pretty sure it is a GPU bios thing that tries to reduce power when it is not being fully utilized. I looked at the bios and there are two 3D settings, one for 607Mhz and one for 405Mhz, so this would make sense since my framrates do not drop when it reduces the clocks.
So here are my GTX470's overclocked to 802Mhz, not too bad.

http://www.vmodtech.com/webboard/ind...ch=13409;image
got my GTX470s on water (koolance full cover blocks and an exos2.5, nothing else in the loop) and doing a little OCing now... 775/1550/1900 seems stable.. I have the v-gpu at 1.087 but it will go to 1.212! load temps while gaming / heaven only go to about 44c... kombuster gets the temps to 50c... but I know that's a poor validation tool... will install occt tonight and test with that..
edit: occt is riding my gpus like they are a pair of rented mules. loads are hitting 60c at 800/1600/1900... still at 1.087v
looks like it survived the tests.. whew.
Here you go guys. I can't find a link for that Fermi BIOS Editor Lite but I have found a link for a program called nVidia Inspector, made by the same guy who made that Fermi BIOS Editor.
post occt stressing, been gaming hard on my GTX 470s @ 820/1640/1900 and they are rock solid so far.. my v-gpu is still 1.087 and I don't want to go over that to spare the vrms too much added stress... watercooled temps are so damn nice... gaming I rarely see anything over 45c, but usually the top card is 42c and the bottom is 40c. dep on ambient though.. the top card gets the cooled coolant first and I have some case fans moving air around them but I am guessing being a frame buffer for two of the displays adds a little extra heat.
My first try with new card:
http://www.abload.de/thumb/myfermi_test1pmjz.jpg
It's good ?
So far so good with my new 470. It sure does love water though. 800/1800 so far with stock volts, full load at 45-46C.
Hi Guys,
I would like to add my 2 cents on the gtx 480. Despite all I have read online and in magazines, Temps, Power & just not worth the money. I took a plunge and purchase one base on these forms here and the end user personal reviews.
Coming from ati HD 4890’s in crossfire I must say I’m very impressed with the single GPU performance, playing at my native res of 1920 by 1200.
My future plan with would be to go sli and run 3 monitor with 3d surround , I currently have one monitor running 3d surround and plays without missing a beat. I’m also have the ek water blocks ready to install just waiting for my second card to arrive.
I uninstalled Asus smart doctor, it had a few glitches now running MSI Afterburn, fan control on auto it never goes over 70c with my corsair 800d,
So thanks guys I have enjoyed the read and now I’m enjoying the 480.
My 470's at 840.
http://i234.photobucket.com/albums/e...r/840core2.jpg
Hey guys.
Just started messing with my GTX 480 and noticed that I cannot access core clocks with EVGA Precision or Nvidia Inspector. Am I missing some unlock feature such as ATI has in CCC? EVGA Precision doesnt even list a core speed on the side of the OVerclocking slider bar...
The Core and Shader clocks are "locked together", overclocking one overclocks the other. This had me scratching my head as well, but you'll just have to get used to it. :) Advice, used OCCT for overclocking your CPU and GPU, it's the best program out there for stability testing because it stresses the whole computer!
Lol
Many thanks on the heads up :) Got my card a few days ago on a huge deal with a decent MIR and had no intentions of buying a Fermi based card, so wasn't even paying attention to any threads based on them. Never even occurred to me
I prolly wouldnt have fallen for this mistake if the core was present and the shader was blank :D
Nice
Lets give the new guy some attention he only has 4 posts :p:
Hw bout you post some scores of your 480s Hendrix? :D
yes, more scores.. but please stop using the GPU(s) to calc to CPU score.. or just post GPU score. :D
I never let my GPU handle physics. I don't give 2 sh|ts about random crap flying around on the screen. Time nVidia made their PhysX do something useful, like, proper bullet and collision physics.
