You guys are all talking about the DFI...have you looked at the Shuttle nForce2 Ultra 400?? With the great sucess I've had with their nForce3 board....even tho it may not be packed with extra features of other boards....for $65 I think I'm going to try it on for size. I have nothing to lose at this point and everything to gain.

I've read great comments about the boards overclocking abilities around the web, all the fancy crap does nothing for me...my needs are always a quality, highly functional overclocking board. I've tried them all over the years..ABIT was my preference over all others, but my initial Shuttle experience has changed all that.

Shuttle NF2 is not so advertised on the web but it has all the toys to be a winner; from the few benchs I could have seen it's a really fast board, it has even a special low noise caps to help the power circuitry. The only low is that the board needs all kind of voltage mods as stock voltages are ridicoulus. If you get one in your hands I'm almost sure we'lla have another strong competitor in NF2 arena ;)

Icee, I got 2 of the shuttle nf2 boards when they were $49 at newegg with the rebate from shuttle. I tested both of them and altough they are excellent boards for the money, they're not overclocking champs. The bios on these boards is incredibly picky, more so than any other board I have ever used, but at least it doesn't die like my nf7's. I would have to change almost every setting in the bios one at a time and even then sometimes it wouldn't post afterward and I would have to reset the cmos and start all over again. The 2.0 vcore is nice, but it undervolts a bit and there is only 2.7 on the vdimm. The fsb is very strange. On both my boards they would run 200 no sweat but just 1 mhz more to 201 and neither would post. For the hell of it, I tried one board at 210 and strangely enough, it booted and ran fine. T he other one seemed to hit a solid wall at 200 though. It's odd and maybe a newer bios would fix the problem. So in conclusion, it makes a great budget board or folder but I wouldn't get it for my main oc'ing board. Hope that helps.

I guess maybe I'll try a stab at the DFI Infinity then. I'm trying to get something decent for the overclocking competition with the AthlonXP. I'm priming with the AN7 right now at 2200Mhz(11x200) and can run 3DMark at 11x220.....but you guys know me, I'm not happy at only 220, especially without being able to change the multiplier.

Yea, I'd love to see what you can do with a DFI Infinity or Lan Party B. So far things have been rather mixed with it, supposedly the fsb overclocking is insane, but people are having problems with vcores above 1.95(max is 2.0) and vdimm 3.1-3.2(max is 3.3).

Although someone just tryed putting the stock NB sink on the southbridge and supposedly he didn't experience the problems he was before until much later. I'm thinking with some good mosfet/sb cooling and a good vcore mod, this board would be a real winner in every respect.

I never got to test it much. What happened is that I heard about a modded bios... so I flashed to that and yeah it's faster and my memory bandwidth efficiency is up *97/93* but I no longer have multiplier access! I updated to the newest bios again but still have no access, but still have the good efficiency. Whatever though, maybe i'll have multi access again on the next bios.

But it's really no matter, i'm getting a 2500+ on the 17th, which ill probably be multiplier locked. So my high fsb adventures may have ended before they even got the chance to start! And also I should've given the ram more volts...

And also, lower volts on the vcore does help a lot. Try booting at your regular oc, but give it too much voltage and see what happens... yeah it'll crash all the time or possibly not even boot. So what you have to do is like have the volts that match the fsb/cpu speed or things simply will not work out. It takes a lot of fine tuning to get the two settings to meet evenly, but once you do get it right... you'll be rewarded!

Well, hopefully your 2500+ will OC good enough to make a good use out of that 11x mult. Hell I have the most success with that one anyway. :)

Btw Jig, what is this modded BIOS you speak of. All I can find are standard 12 and 13.

he's speaking of a modded bios for the Infinity.
I decided the Infinity won't do for me. I can't find a vcore mod for it which is very surprising.

The only thing it has that the AN7 doesn't is the Vdd does 1.9
and the Vdimm does 3.3 instead of 3.2v

BUT, the Vcore on the AN7 can do 2.3v, not that it will work right at 2.3v and high fsb;s, but for mild OC's it's great.

I think you need more Vcore much more then you need more Vdd.
What good is more Vdd when I can't really use it since my CPU can't clock as high using high FSB's?

So, since this is my last Abit board for a LONG time, I might get a version 1.1 AN7 when it comes out in exhange for this hacked up one. From now on my 1 st choice is Asus, then I look at others. Abit is the last on the list.

I too had the newer NF7's dying on me lately. Work one day, bad the next.

My buddies have had TONS of the new NF7's go bad on him.

Crazy. No problems here with the NF7-S 2.0.

Its just this underwhelming, stable-as-an-earthquake, piece of §§§§e AN7 thats causing me migranes.

I get the feeling that most of the MB manufacturers pay absolutely no attention to any of the forums or requests for features. There seems to be always something missing. I don't see any one board that shines above all the others. After two years with NF2 boards out, you would think that most of the problems would be ironed out, but it appears not to be the case.

2 years???? More like 1 year bud, the first ASUS NF2 boards only started showing last November AFAIR.

november of last year was when NF2 hit the shelves.. i got my epox 8rda+ two days after they came out back in november. it was one of the cheapest at $115

I've found out the mega fix for the Abit AN7....

Hey guys, I got an AN7 from Newegg and found no gash. I either have a new revision, or they decided to stop choppin them. I'm about to throw it together, I'll post some results.

Got my AN7 up and running.

This is the absolute worst board I've ever used in my life. Period. Nothing works right. I get random lockups even in the bios @ 100x11, I can't change my multi, mem timings dont stick, uGuru freezes my computer instantly from windows, it took about 15 reboots to detect my cd drive and lan port, it's not stable at ALL, even at stock speeds, and vdd doesn't change from 1.65 no matter what the bios setting is. But other than that I haven't had any problems.

yes i am going to pick up 2 dfi infinities...hang a 80mm fan over that massive nb cooler...and put a beefy sb cooler on it. one is for a schoolmates system and one for me of coarse :) that board is awsome in the voltage options...owner is a former abit worker or manager or something. 3.3vdimm (will go nicely with bh5 ;)...hopefully ill smack 240 out of this ram) and 1.9vdd yummy

And also I'm hitting a speed bump at 2.62ghz... and I need more volts to go farther! And also my mobo is showing it's limits at that 238mhz fsb. Now try to tell me that 2425mhz with 225fsb and cpu interface on is faster than 2.62ghz with 238fsb and cpu interface off. :D

here is my AN7 trace cut doing 235, BUT, CPU Interface is OFF
AND, I have to lower my Vcore to 2v from 2.1 so it can boot.
Because I don't have 1/2 multies, I have to choose 10 for now
so my CPU is NOT maxed out anymore as you can see.

This board is crazy! I tried 10.5 for the hell of it and it works!
BUT, I can't go one drop over 2v vcore or it won't boot into Winhoes. So that limits my CPU overclock and being Prime stable.

I played a race of NFS: Underground and it runs fine so far {knock on knockers :)} This board is way nutzo.

It sets the ram timing Command rate to 1T. Why they call it CPU Interface I don't know.

You gain big points in mem bandwidth and 3dmark.

I'm convinced what I've been saying from the begining. The latest
batches of N2 chipsets are from the bottom of the barrel or they are crippled on purpose. Of course some good chipsets will get out and some will do good.

I mean how bad is the cut on the silicon for this chipset if setting CI On results in flakey 1/2 multipliers. Turning it OFF gives me the 1/2's just fine. How crappy is that?

You have to remember all these mobo makers are paying all their attention and resourses to the N3 boards. They actually consider
the N2 chipset as the end of the product cycle. More and more people are going the way of FX or A64 and that will ramp up by Feb 04. when 754 platform gets cheaper and cheaper as the new 939's approach.

The whole thing stinks really. I'm back to 210 x 12 with CI Enabled
plus 2-2-2-11 timings and it's Prime Stable.

For me, this is the best for performance and Stability. Screen shots mean little if the system is not RS {Rock Stable}

I want my system to be able to run anything thrown at it. Running at 235 does little for me if everything else is crippled.

If I could at least run 218 x 11.5 with CI On it would be nice.

I'll tell you, I'm so fed up in a way I feel like getting a refund on the board and spending that towards a cheap A64 system.

I mean for $360 you have a A64 3000+ and a nice mobo. But, that means I have to retire my baby barton that does 2525Mhz.
and go from Dual channel to single channel. Then, I'd have to sell that when the new 939's come out.

Or, I can make this system last till 939.

This 2nd board I'm using is dying for sure.

At 200MHz FSB, default chipset, AGP and RAM voltages, slack RAM timings and a mild CPU OC it's not Prime 95 stable anymore. Whereas it used to be at 200MHz, with RAM @ 6,2,2,2 @ 2.8v and my CPU at 2.8GHz and 2.094v :(

When I get back after Christmas this board is going back and being swapped for the DFI Infinity NFII Ultra for sure.

Did you try really upping the voltages on everything to see if it runs better?

Man was this is a rushed board for the holidays. Abit should be hung for this.....

I ran a 32m prime at 11x236 and it got like 39 minutes. That's about as stable as it gets :)

Mine's on its way back to excal and inifinity from newegg should be here today. If it don't work out I'd consider a 2.6C simply because of platform choices. I had a AMD 760 back in the day, that worked flawless. I never even had any bad luck with my KT333 either though.

Just an update:

I'm working with ABIT on these issues my friends. I just recieved a beta bios from Taiwan to evaluate, I'll flash it after work today and see what we end up with. I haven't given up on the board yet, but am trying to help bring this board to the level we all expect from ABIT.

I'm very interested in the results of the bios flash. I'm doing 233mhz fsb on my locked 2500+ right now with cpu-i off. It's prime stable, and I have ram timings of 10-2-3-2. It's 100% stable... but if I could do that with cpu-i on... DAMN. 2.56ghz with crazy bandwidth! Not to mention on air :D .

Yeah, this is the worst board ever. I found that I get better results putting the first boot device as the CD-ROM. Otherwise i get the NTLDR error. I cant change the multi on this thing at all, and i can only adjust the fsb. At 2-2-4 2.0 with T1 it only gets up to 240fsb before giving me major stability problems. I really hope this can be fixed with a new bios.

I have issues with my board that some of you don't have, it prevents me from evaluating how this bios overclocks the FSB.

- can adjust Vcore but it stays 1.84-88v no matter what setting

- can adjust northbridge voltage but it stays 1.65v no matter what

- can set any multi on my 1700+ JIUHB and it remains 11 no matter what

I have offered to send my board to the engineers for their evaluation and testing.....they cannot reproduce these issues on their test systems.

I'll keep you posted as we make headway. I apologize for the lack of progress here, but I'm doing all I can to help the AN7 owners get their boards up to snuff.

Got one on test at the moment....

So far, straight outta the box no vmods vs my NF7-S also with no vmods, it matches it. No probs at all here... can post above 225, but so far haven't had time to sit and get it up into windows to play... but runs perfect in windows at 220x11@1.9v with an 1800+ DLT3C...

All voltages change as they should, as do multipliers...

This is with stock Bios... will post up revision l8r (the boards on the test bench at work...)

Am doing me usual review of it as I did with the NF7-S so I'll put all my findings up in there... so far it seems like an NF7-S with dangly bits to appeal to the non-overclockin' crowd, rather than a progression in attainable speed for our chunk o' the market...

Welp looks liek that beta bios may go to waste on that funy board ya got there Randi.

Wish ya could send it to me since i have nothing but time right now.. and can easily test it 24/7 for days on end with a 2500+ Barton and a 2100+ TB B. Water cooling will be used as well.. so heat should'nt play a roll.

I was going to buy both the An7 and NF7-S but i decided to try out the AMD 64 3000+ in a Chaintech board.. Buyin the An7 was a last min thought since i'm currious as to how much faster the 64 would be compaired to an overclocked Barton at 2600-2700Mhz.

sounds more like a board problem to me, rather than the bios

my board is all OK, only some minor gripes:

+ set vdd at 1.75v, shows 1.76v in BIOS.. Good sign
+ ddr volt overvolts a bit. eg: set 3.05v, it'll show 3.13v.. set 3.10v yields 3.15, set 3.2v yields 3.30v! Good :D
+ vcore doesn't fluctuate like NF7 does.. set 1.625 and it'll stay around 1.63~ 1.64v.. Good!
- no .5 multis work
- board will not boot with CPU interface OFF

board is doing 225 @ 2-2-2-5 out 'o the box

I just got an email from Abit Marketing and they have now sent me a Beta bios for the An7!!

But what about the siren that goes off when you boot up?

It's intiated by the guru chip or the bios. So that means it makes noise till you boot into windows which turns it off?

And you have no fan on the header?

I keep getting the damn siren on mine while it's POSTing no matter what speed it's running at.

no sirens even before the mod. I got fans on the CPU & NB header. my cpu is watercooled so none of my fans are running above 2000rpm.. i've replace the NB hsf with a zalman passive, and connected the PSU fan to the NB header.. no sirens.. oh, FanEQ is disabled.

well.. you can get rid of the siren without plugging a fan though..
try these:

Enable = 0
BeepEnable = 0
LoBound = 0

that should disable the siren completely.. Never tried, so Im not sure hehehe

Um... well I just checked my bios and even though I have my vdd set to 1.75, it's only putting out 1.6v. WTF ABIT? Vcore is set at 2.06 and I can't change it... but that's no big deal at this point.
I still think it's a bios prob, so what are the differences of that beta bios? Or maybe it killed their boards or something...

Yep, mine does that too. No matter what I set the VDD to in the bios, it always reads 1.6, both in the bios and with a multimeter.

The beta bios does NOT fix these problems. I already evaluated it. It is supposed to aid in the overclockibility of the board..but without multi control, or voltage control of Vcore and northbridge...I could not assess the bios properly.

The beta bios did crap for me. I never had voltage problems so I don't know if it fixed that, but no 1/2 multies or high fsb fixed.

Just wanted to let you guys know I didn't want to take a chance ruining my bios chip by flashing to that beta. So I took a bios chip for a NF7 v 2.0 and hot swapped it in the AN7. Flashed perfectly using Flashmenu. No need for /f flags in Dos.

So if you have an old NF7 v 2.0 bios chip, it can double as an extra AN7 bios chip. Plus, if you ever get a NF7 again, you can reuse it and flash back.

Im with everyone else, the beta BIOS did nothing for me. Damn Im upset! I think I've almost lost all respect for Abit.

Im on my way to the comp store, its either a new Lian-li or a DFI. Hopefully these bastids will have atleast one of them in stock.

My performance is Better at 210 2-2-2-11 1T CPU Enabled, then at 236 CPU off and 2.5-3-2-11 2T

on an up note, I'm running at 220 x 11 now same exact setting as at 210 all enabled lean and mean. BUT, I lose 100Mhz in raw CPU power to gain 10 Mhz in FSB.

I know it's not worth it even though some people would rather lose 100 so they could run at 220. Am I right?

Do a 3d mark 2001 run and see...

Is the Infinity better than the LP?

I'd really hate to own a board as ghey sounding as "Lan Party!!!" but if they work better... f it. Infinity sounds a lot less gheybo.

So the beta BIOS is ass? Yay. Abit seems to not give a rats ass about this board I think.

From what I know, and that is limited...The Infinity I believe is just the LP but stripped down, ie no GB lan, and no SATA I think. From what I've read, the beta bios is the bios to use with the DFI's. Helps w/problems over 3.0v vdimm, among other things I think...But don't quote me 100% on that, I'm not 100% sure.

Does anybody know if the Infinity has soundstorm? I don't see it listed as a feature in my vendor's product description, but it seems to have too many audio in/out ports to be simple AC97. :confused:

indeed it does. all nforce2 MCP-T SB mobos have sound storm. some just dont have the certification due to lacking a SPID/IF bracket of some sort.

i have an infinity right in front of me, it has soundstorm. same codec chip as teh AN7 aswell.

anybody tried the L12 mod on AN7? i did on my xp1700 but it shows up 200 FSB !? :confused:

A solution has come up. My brothers board has died, so i'm giving him my AN7! So what is the best board out there besides that nf7-s or the an7 that can OC the best and has nice features like SS and SATA?
