Success with stock voltage - Prime95 blend (4 tests) stable
0922MPMW - ramrodcar - MA790X-UD4P - F5c - Success
Success here!
0922APMW running on a Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P (F2c BIOS).
OC'd to 3.6ghz with the stock CPU fan, no problem, but it ran a little hot (CPU maxxed out at around 64C during Prime95). Switched to a Core Contact Freezer, and it will now clock up to 3.8ghz stable, although I keep it clocked down at 3.5ghz. CPU idles between 31-33C, and never goes above 60C during Prime95 or OCCT.
Man, I'm loving this new system--runs Windows 7 Ultimate like a dream.
I'm hitting a wall with my overclocking. Can't get 3.8 to stabilize with up to 1.500V on Vcore, 1.450V CPU NB. Haven't really manipulated ACC yet since the computer crashes when using P95. Used to just have a core or two quit, which would make it easier to figure out which cores are causing issues.
Using PhII 550BE (unlocked to quad) and GA-MA790X-UD4P. Anyone got any insight on this one?:banana::banana::banana:ty chip maybe?

About 5 hours test in Prime95 without any errors
Still no signs of later batch?
Im still having an issue with my 550,
I get errors with my memory at DDR2-1066 at 5-8-8-28 which is slower than what its able according to OCZ.
In BIOS (790x-ud4p):
CPU VID: +0.025
NB VID: +0.1
NB Core: +0.025
I would like to get my memory stable at 1066 so i can work on getting my CPU and NB rounded out.
hi...
is there good chances to get a x2 550 @ x4 on newegg?
I see all failed unlocks in europe/asia..
2000Mhz still stock
Anyone have any idea what I can do to try to get my RAM stable over 800Mhz
In BIOS (790x-ud4p):
CPU VID: +0.025
NB VID: +0.1
NB Core: +0.025

Just got a new combo,
0922MPMW - RussC - ASUS M4N78 PRO - 1004 - Success
Success with caveot, with 4 cores enabled, will lock up always. Disabled one core with msconfig and 3 cores work fine. Ran prime95 for 7hrs overclocked to 3.5GHz and FSB 210, Memory 1:2 to 420MHz. Sill testing to see how far it will go. I also added a fan to the chipset IC, the nVidia MCP78S(GeForce 8200). This set is one IC for the whole motherboard. May give some more headroom for overcloaking. The IC gets very hot in normal running. I wonder why ASUS didn't put a fan on it.
This CPU was a good part on air(Zalman 9700) with 2 cores and was able to do a few benchs @ 4.0GHz before crash with no voltage uppers(super PI-1M @ 17.3s). So far this part doesn't seem to like alot of voltage. Ill post some pics later.

did u try to up the voltage?
or straight away got ur motherboard, updated ur BIOS and tried unlocking?
what do you mean by "4 cores unlocked but lock up always?
im inteding to get that mobo with 710,will appreciate any information u could provide
thanks :)
P1.20 BIOS (4/24/2009)
BIOS > Advanced > Chipset Configuration > Advanced Clock Calibration > [Auto], save changes and exit. Thats all.
Yes, I tried higher voltages with 4 cores. I went as high as 1.4375V. Since Im on air, I didn't feel comforable going higher. I didn't try a real high voltage on the NB(1.15V max) since the MCP78S was getting very hot. Ive since put a fan on it, so I may up the voltage more later.
4 cores would boot OK, but would always lock system within 1-10min, no matter what I did with voltages or multi's. Starting P95 would cause it to lock faster.
One draw back with this board is FSB:DRAM multi's. You only get 3 settings, thats it. Not very good. For hard core overclocking, Id go elsewhere. I got this boards for 2 monitor system.
so did u update ur Bios?
does your motherboard come with on board nvidia graphics?
Just got a 0924EPMW, will hopefully be testing in a few hours. Wish me luck :)
Just came from the computer store they had a 550 there batch number 0926APMW
Someone please update the first post.
@hondaguy : Seems AMD will release B/C3 version soon ;)
I received new arrival in Croatia, 0926APBW and 0925CPMW, I will test them very soon... In the meantime, from my last post I had 0925APMW 4/7 success unlocks

0922MPMW - RussC - ASUS M4N78 PRO - 1004 - Success
See above post. 4cores still wont run under load. 3cores need NCC tweak in the BIOS to run stable under load @ -4% for the third core. Pic:
http://home.comcast.net/~russelc/pwp...50be3_6mhz.jpg
As seen, 3.6MHz stable with a very minor voltage tweaks. I bet this unit will run 4.0GHz with more voltage and water. I don't feel comfortable at 1.45 or 1.5V on air. Another big breakthrough along with fan on MCP78S chip was getting the covers on the Antec 900 box. Temps on the CPU dropped ~11F with covers, always put your covers on with high end boxes:rolleyes:
Will do more testing to see if 3.7 or 3.8 is possible with this part.
RussC
Just got a 550 and 790X-UD4P. Its unlocked and working at 3.6 now, with 1.5Vcore, and .2v added to NBv and NBvid. Fails OCCT Linpack after 10min. Temps are fine, speedfan, everest, and hwmonitor all report the same, 48C load.
ACC is set to auto -2% for all cores. Is there a guide anywhere on what the ACC settings do, and where they should be set?
Op updated
C-BuZz
I was wondering the same thing.
I have the same board as you. Forgot to document the production specs of the CPU. :shakes: Don't feel like pulling off the HSF right now. I was running the chip@3.6 NB 2.6 all 4 cores -2%. Ran prime, OCCT etc. and all seemed fine. But sometimes the system blue screened, no real pattern to it. Sometimes it would run for hours, other times it would blue screen on boot up.
Lowered the NB to stock frequency and is running stable @3.6, NB VID and core at 1.325. I have crappy 800Mhz memory, never thought the chip would run this high with all 4 cores the system deserves better memory.
when you unlock Phenom II 550 into Quad core and if you cannot boot into Windows make sure that you lower RAM frenquency.many unlocked chips have unstable ddr2 memory controller for 1066 mhz memory frenquency
Thanks for the update.
But you forget to add the success of unlocking my X2 550BE 0919 EPMW with my new mobo : Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H. and it's also ok with the Asus M4A78-E flashed with the last bios
To make it simple :
X2-550BE 0919 EMPW + Asus M4A78-E => success
X2-550BE 0919 EMPW + Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H => success
X3-720BE 0904 CPMW + Asus M4A78-E => fail (black screen and reboot)
You can add my results if you want. Thanks for all
The general consensus is that the PhII X2 550 unlocks on Asus M4A78E right (790GX + SB750)? (I'm probably ordering it tomorrow for my father). The X2 is still a great chip without the unlock but then I wouldn't have to buy such an expensive board (could easily save 50$). I'm most interested in rock solid stability @ four cores - 3,1GHz, 4GB DDR2 @ 800MHz - that's a huge upgrade from his single-cored Sempron :)
Thanks for your informations. I think it's a good step, better than my 0919 EPMW ;)

very nice. I have the same board and im having a hell of a time unlocking. cpu is 550BE 0925 APMW.
im using the same bios as you. what did you do exactly to get the board to post?
I set ht link to 1600
vcore around 1.4V
ACC to Auto
coolnquiet is disabled.
am I missing anything? I feel like such a retard with this AMD rig. Its my 1st amd since 2004.
I feel like I forgot how to ride a bike or something.
thx sir, was being lucky only coz i dun think i did something special. what i did was :
1. turn d air cond on bout 10 mins b4 i start benching
2. go into bios, up d cpu multi, up d vid and set d ht link multi to 8x. that's it.
3. turn off gpu (green power utility) & all those c&q related stuffs.
4. save & exit.
5. test d highest clock my old 3850 can handle.
6. run 06.
7. do screenshot.
0925 batch is having kinda high failure rate. i managed to test one 0925apmw on d same board, no luck in unlocking but managed to get it prime stable @ 4.0GHz w/ dual core. lotsa luck needed in getting a 0925apmw w/ healthy unlockable cores i guess. :(
http://h.imagehost.org/t/0922/X2_4000_png.jpg
@ trans am - when you save your settings in the BIOS and reboot to see if your CPU will unlock, what happens? Do you hang at POST? Freeze/reboot during windows boot-up? Explain so we can figure out whether your chip is responsible or it's something else.
Try setting ACC to Hybrid and set all cores to -2% to start (if you haven't already). If 1.400V doesn't work, last-ditch effort would be 1.500V. Beyond that, I'd say it's not unlockable unless there's something I'm forgetting.
Phenom 2 X550 0923APMW all 4 (fore)cores working fine on Biostar TA790GX 128М (78DЕA715), makeing some tests in nominal 3.1Gh and QnQ ENABLED +0.1 Vcore V! It is realy a great processor! hi everybody. I'm from Vietnam.
0929bpmw 's 550 code unlocked x4 ok. i have tested 80 cpu 0929 and 75 cpu success. 5 cpu down clock x4 2.2-2.9 test ok.
0922 apmw and cpmw I tested 50 cpu and 48 success but 0925 apmw 4/12 success.
(a-Monday , b-tue, c- wed, d-thu, e-fri, f-sat)
Got the parts yesterday and tried to unlock it. With new bios I was able to unlock the processor to X4 B50 but it was very unstable, locking almost instantly after completing Windows boot. Tried increasing Vcore to 1,4V and also raised voltage on NB, lowered NB clock, CPU clock (2,4GHz) but nothing. Going to send it to my father as he needs it quite desperately. Did a mild OC to 3,5GHz X2 with 1,325V and undervolted P0 to 1,8GHz with 1,075V (did not get CnQ to work so I did it myself with K10Stat).
Any hints on how to make it stable (once I get my hands on it again), NB voltage, CPU voltage, CnQ disabled? I know he'll be satisfied with the performance he's getting but I was hoping for even more (of course).
Just got a 0929. SICK CPU... It kills my other 550 and 940 without even trying.
My old 550 did 3.7ghz with 1.4v on a expensive water cooling build. This 550 is doing 3.7ghz with 1.4v with a 20usd air cooler. Ofc as x4 :) heres my highest screen http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=679180 . Took it after having the cpu in the board for 30min xD Running it in a Gigabite 785G-UD2H
how long i should run OCCT to make sure that unlocked cores are stable???
i cant alter my nb setting anymore on this, using a gigabyte ud5p.
Cant go higher than 2000mhz wont boot,im sure on f3k bios i got 2200mhz and 2400mhz and it booted fine, im wondering if its because i updated the bios a few time to latest ones, gone back to f3k still no good :-(
Tried upping the nb voltages , cpu voltages etc.
Any ideas?
This max atm for my 0929BPMW http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=679358 :)

Running 3.8Ghz @ 1.41v now (over 6hours Prime Stable)
Is there any way to view the temps when running it as a quad? The core temps goes to -256C just xD What tmpin was the cputemp?

vCore in BIOS set to 1.40, CnC disabled (even tho it works enabled, puts the proc at 798mhz with 0.9vCore). I have to tweak the vCore, but anyways this is my moms comp and I'll leave it everything on auto with 4 cores (3100mhz, 1.30vcore, etc)
All this with the AMD HSF (72ºC with OCCT running, doesnt hang). I'm gonna leave it with maybe 1.3875vCore and CnC disabled, because now it's idling at 56ºC (it's 35ºC inthis room).
I'm a bit out of AMD OC, is it worth to overclock the FSB? It's cool the BEs are multiplier unlocked!
Go to Performance Control > Fan Control, there you have the FAN0 temp, I don't know how accurate it is but seems realistic to me.
Do you people think its overkill to have the proc idling at 47ºC and stressing at 70ºC?
I'm right now 1.3875vCore 17,5x200
//EDIT: Tweaking a bit more, default vCore 17x200, 44ºC idle 63ºC stressing OCCT, could be the 24/7? Temps too high?
Yeah definitely I'm gonna settle for 1.30vCore, 17x200.
Its curious with default vcore I can get an X4 3.4ghz. 3.5ghz you need to up to 1.3875v. Make you guess if this is not a rebranded X4 965 :D
Wait how are you guys getting your Temp Sensors to work, my 550 when running at X2 it works fine on 790x-UD4P (F7 Bios) but when unlocked to quad it shows all cores at -256C
As I said above, I don't know if it's actual CPU temp, but I use the one on AMD Overdrive > Performance Control > Fan Control > FAN0.
Seems realistic, how much I don't know
When I run prime on a four cores @ stock clocks, core 3 has fatal errors. I cant figure out how to up vcore. I up it in BIOS but it has no effect. It stays the same..
After unlocking, are you guys using ACC on seperate cores or what? I can take this thing to 4Ghz on stock vcore but only for a few seconds, and @ 3.9Ghz I can proly validate but no where near stable.
If I could up the vcore I am sure it will help a lot!
MSI 785GM-E65
EDIT: I figured out how to change the vcore now, but I can go all the way up to 1.56v with 12% ACC on core 3 with no joy! Absolutely no stability..
Enabling ACC causes the temp. sensors on the CPU to mess up. I've tested this with my Athlon II X2 240. -256C in AMD Overdrive, and 0C in Core Temp. Disabling ACC restores functionality.
Yeah but also "restores" only 2 cores, I for one prefer 2 free cores than knowing my temps!
Does anyone know if 0931DPMW is unlockable?
I bought AMD Phenom II X2 550BE with stepping 0923BPAW and i was able to unlock it to X4, i am so happy :-)
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=684217
But i will try higher ;-)
If you have the chip already, try it and tell us how it goes. It seems to be a newer batch that no one here has tested yet. There really is no definitive way of knowing if a certain chip will unlock or not. Some batches will have great success while other batches can vary from chip to chip.
