Maybe me and Pavi both tested in too high ventilated cases. In a small form case (HTCP style), bad flow case (loads of wiring, obstructions etc) or eg cases with older 8cm fans etc, this cooler will do it's job magnificently. As it draws room ambient air in to cool the rad, while a good air cooler has to cool with the higher case ambient air. For those that want a hassle free (easy to install and maintain) and pretty solid performing setup this cooler might do the trick ! Our main editor will put the H50 against another competitor on his testbed. Maybe the results are more in favour of the H50.
Testing is never done :)
It would be nice to see a dual rad version of this kit under 100 euro price. but it will be far harder to mount/install which deviates a bit from the original concept...

You can't really compare dollars with euros, but the H50 retails in Belgium around 65 euros which is around 90 dollars

running into readout probs with the Phenom II CPU, coretemps are lower than ambient temps, under load they go up just a mere 10°C... bummer. CPU temp in bios remains at 42°c all the time... will need to install a temp probe somehow...
Just ordered one last night from zipzoomfly. Let's hope it gets here before my day off on Thursday so I can play with it. :D
I'll make sure to toss up my results too, as I plan to run it in push-pull exhausting from the case as well as exhausting into the case, just to see.

or just make the rad connections modular , so by default it comes with a single rad but the dual options is available for slightly extra cost.
unscrew one end and make it interchangeable.
Imho, I think it is very difficult a modular solution, due to liquid flowing into the radiator. Instead, an interchangeable rad is a very good idea :)
modifications to the current design only add complexity, the exact reason why they built it as is. i can understand creating the Hydro Pro for those who like to play with it. but they will continue to pump out units just like this which were built to be idiot proof and inexpensive.
Nobody seems to be talking about noise. How loud is it? Is that not the point of watercooling, to get excellent performance without the noise of High CFM fans? I do want the H50, even if it's 90% of the performance of a TRUE but also silent.
yeah id like to see a review compare blocks based on sound, see how good they cool at 30db, 40db, 50db etc. from what ive read, the pump makes no noise, and the fan is nothing special, and its probably about the same as the true at any fan speed. (note the word about, saying i dont know exacts, but its not gonna be a massive difference good or bad)
noise is the same as a normal fan at 1600rpm, pump gurgless the first seconds then it's noiseless... in total you will even get a few db less as you loose one fan (unless you use PNP on the rad)... the fan is designed to be hooked up to the CPU connector of the mobo : spinning then at around 1400rpm idle, once you open no matter which app, it goes straight to 1600rpm... noise is absolute not an issue and using a fan with less flow will hinder performance big time...
Argh! I was thinking of using a Scythe Slip Stream 1200rpm fan at 1000rpm on this ( it's very quiet). I haven't yet heard a 1600rpm fan that's quiet, to me of course, but I'm a silence freak.
for me this is stupidity... there are so many cheap cases (like CM RC-590) that have already a place for two 120mm fans ON TOP. why they didn't know that? :shrug: i do no. anyway if they do a dual rad version in price of a ~95 dollars, then we have a next gen cpu coolers in mass production for sure.Quote:

Thats normal. You can't cool something lower than that if ambient temperature doesn't allow that. Just the same as someone in Norway in the middle of winter coluld just ditch the PC outside the house and have subzero cooling, the guy from Egypt has the opposite effect in the summer. And 74°C is not bad if you take into consideration that he's running it at 4GHz... I get to 74°C right away at just 3,3GHz using Scythe Big Shuriken and a limited ventilation case in the middle of summer (where temps in the room quickly rise up to 28°C+ unless i use AC).
There still at least 20°C to go before throttling kicks in... also not many programs will load the cpu as far... mostly users are 5-10°C lower in temps when gaming or such then with Prime (distance with IBT is even bigger).Quote:

I have tried the H50 on a DFI mobo based AMD rig ( sadly I cannot get decent temp readouts on it) On 2 connectors the pump only runs at 1200rpm (checked bios for fan speed settings all are at full blast) +/-1400rpm is where the pump speed needs to be.
im not just talking about the cpu. if the cpu is running that hot then it is not very efficient and is putting more load onto the pwms. you also have to keep in mind that with using this h50 it is completely blocking airflow over the pwms. and without a nearby fan those can get very hot and be damaged.
Therefore I added the Antec spotcool for the IOH, this is an issue with all watercooling setups if you don't add extra fans, and I7 mobo's needs proper ventilation !

It's due to the Cosmos design he says, if it doesn't have any intake fans how can the air coolers be so much betterthen ? as no fresh air is blown into the case... underpressure ?
I couldn't boot at 3.6 with the stock cooler and 1.45Vcore, with the H50 I could enter windows run and prime, (but can't read out temps correctly)
love that review. so little information about the H50 on a PII and they screw it up by using a case with bad airflow.
id still like to see what results people get if its held on the outside of a case using rad standoffs.

I'm doing the AMD tests right now, will repost DB's later ( stock H50, PNP and True with same fan ) , pump really doesn't make much noise mate. My antec spotcool is the noisiest part in the rig at the moment...

Do not lap it mate, the base is only a few mm thick, so lapping is absolutely a no no... best is to install it with the mobo out of the case to make sure it's properly seated. Let's us know what temps you get...
I think you can only polish it, but only a few.
I posted the question at the Corsair support forums and RAM GUY said that it can be lapped and would not void the warranty. He mentioned that they had not tested with a lapped unit so he was not sure if it would make much difference. I've been very busy and I'm not sure how much time I'll have to play with this right now, but if I get some free time it may be interesting to test unlapped vs lapped.
well if it's really concave or convex you will run out of copper, I say NO ! I would ask RAMguy if you mess up and you take out that tiny bit too much if you will get another unit as once you open it and loose some fluid, it's history...
