my chip idles at 40C at 1.488 now,load has only been up 54C. I can use 18.5 and above multiplier. I can't get above that really yet. I tried 19 got into windows, tried 19.5 could get into windows went back down to 19 and could get in to windows again. :confused: is this because I left my chip OC at 3.2ghz and then came back like 6 hours later, played games and other things. seem the longer I sit on one multiplier the higher I'll get next time :wth:
For a clock of 3.6Ghz: Currently at 1.47V on the core. In the bios I set this voltage and a multiplier of x18. I have also set the NB to 2.4Ghz in the bios. (The HT stays at 1.8Ghz... I can't get the bios to change it correctly.)
For a clock of 3.713Ghz: Using AOD I can also increase the Bus speed from 200 to 206. (No voltage change needed.)
I have run Prime95 for many hours at 3.6 (Just the x18 multiplier) but have not yet done it with the added 6Mhz to the bus speed. (I'll do that later tonight.) UPDATE: After running 6 hours Prime95 crashed at 3.7Ghz.
But I also got some nice Futuremarks scores: (Using 2x4850 video.)

EDIT: Interesting that the next post by pershoot has almost the same settings. Seeing his results: I might be able to decrease my voltage after I test for stability. Although he got 2.6Ghz on the NB. I can't.

Pershoot, I got a question: Can you watch vcore and see if it drops a bit under high load?
I believe the 790FXB-M2RSH(bios?) has an error under high load with Ph II. Just want to hear it from multiple people to get rid of any doubt that its something else.

Well I tried to copy Oldguy932 and disable 2 of the cores to try and get a higher clock. I don't think it really helped much on my water setup. Below are the results. My next step is to try HT at 300 to see if that makes any difference.

Changed multi to 9, it BSOD'd right after POST.
Changed Vnb to 1B from 1C, BSOD'd right after boot.
Changed Vnb to 1A from 1B, Error'd in Memtest quite fast.
Changed Vnb to 19 from 1A, Error'd in Memtest as I browsed the net.
Changed Vnb to 18 from 19, running now for 30m+ with browsing the net:rolleyes:

Im about to think to up the HTT one notch to 293. CPU is now at 3796Mhz, not that magic 3.8Ghz:p: But first testing this, will run Memtest for another ~20 minutes, then a 10 run Intelburntest x64. From there Ill try to raise the HTT from 292 to 293 and test again. After that... my biggest bottleneck... I tried Vnb all the way upto '14' (1.3V) but it refuses not to BSOD under Intelburntest:confused: I tried different HT multipliers, I tried to use Drive Strength Weak and Normal mode, it just always BSOD's.
Now Im going to run on previous stable OC and test that just to be sure it's indeed stable, although I hope otherwise it would probably mean something is dieing:mad:
PS, is there any thing I might be forgetting? AFAIK NB OCíng is just like CPU? Add Voltage if higher clock isnt stable? Although it doesnt work, so I prolly hit a wall then?

yeah I think since we going for higher core speeds the NB is just going to add to temperatures on air cooling I just tied 2.6ghz with 3.755ghz. it wasn't stable but it got into windows.core votls and nb volts where the same 1.4875. 43C from core temp, from bios read this OC at 37C core temp is showing 41C idle :shrug:Quote:

my NB can't reach over 2730mhz >_< I get a bsod on that one sometimes too. However my cores have done up to 3.885ghz. too much volts need as I'm in 64 bit, and I get a bit more heat.

List has been updated. I think there might be a link or two that I screwed up so please let me know which ones I did. I didn't add the data for screens that used downcore. I might stop doing the suicide screens except for the top 10 to conserve space in the table.
Sadly I haven't had any luck getting 4.5ghz to work at all. I got 1m to run at 261x17 and it got me 15.5 or so, but it was only stable for 8 loops of 32m so I couldn't stay with it. Need a better cooler to get in the top 5 on hwbot with the 4830 in 3DMark06, can't overclock the card very well cause its a stock hsf.
top 10 suicide screens sounds fine with me. although to me they seem more like too lazy to run prime screens. if you need a cooler for the 4870 the t-rad2 has been good for my 4870 and the arctic cooling accelero is good too.
4830 has the same pcb design right? I don't pay much attention to graphics cards other than about where they fall relative to each other performance wise, so thanks for the advice. 4830 fit in the price bracket even though there really wasn't one, just tried going cheaper since I was trying to only buy a card every other generation. That and I still wish the economy hadn't sucked cause I would have an I7 system as well.

I hit 13.6k with one because it throttles back down to 650/990 or so from720/1010. Multicard wouldn't be good because my ht link stays low so I would be low on bandwidth. I got 56k with the card at stock in '01, 41k with high quality in '03, never did '05, and 12.5k with '06. All this is in Windows 7 because it runs so much smoother than vista does for me. My high northbridge is very much a benefit to me though, 3+ghz really gets some extra frames.

set cpu state: p-1 (you can also play with this to see if it does anything for u; it did for me surprisingly), set NB to 2.0GHZ, HEX: 1D, leave HT link on auto, set auto for vcore, set dimm latency to 195 for all dimms (for now, since your running 8gb). u might need to +/- your dimm voltage. set ram timings to 5-5-5-18-23 for now. cnq should be disabled.
now try to see how high u get on stock v's (which is 1.31 for the dfi). go up to +50mv (sparingly; i.e. set +25 test, then +50) then observe how much more u get (this is stock v for the cpu).
dont use HT oc'ing for now, since it adds more stress (high HT) to the IMC needing more NB juice to be stable. u can sort that later.. and or use the dividers if you know your ram can handle it. try setting maxmemclk and your divider option for the option to get tighter timings.
u can also try setting pci-e to 101.

Phenoms are definetly tricky to OC, but to me thats the biggest part of the fun.. ;)
1.45 Vcore may be a little low considering it's only .1v over stock, as long as your temps stay good under load you may want to bring that up a little. AMD even says max Vcore is 1.55 and I'm sure that's a conservative number...
C2Q is probably much easier to OC, not sure about I7 but I would assume the addition of the IMC on die makes it more difficult too..

Pretty weird that I could run this CPU 3.8 and 3.9GHz, but now it can only do 3.6 anymore..it just BSODs if I try 3.8GHz in windows loading screen, everytime. Earlier it had no problems even in gaming.
I dont think its the Mobo if you use Dfi 790FXB.... But unintall AOD its dont work good. Use K10STAT and bios only! , what idle/load temps do you have? (1.35v/1.45v)Quote:

i hear ya on that, same problem with my DFI 790fx-m2r, daymn they get hot, and definately the reason the PWM on the board goes wacko when stressing, i wuz doing an OCCT run and keeping as eye on it, the PWM kept climbing, soaring over 80*c in just a minute or so, added a fan, lowered temps dramatically (about 30*c)....this is a huge concern...i am sure the board will fry sooner or later.....
i have no idea what the temps were when i left her unattended during some earlier runs (i would imagine REALLY high), but the screen was blank, like the MB just disconnected itself from the loop.....

Cyber have you played with ram at all? A lot of times as you push a chip with a memory controller as a side effect it pushes the ram harder due to the IMC, this can cause instability. Before i even install windows with amd chips i sit in memtest for a while as every chip is different and plays with ram differently.Quote:

Dumo, my boards ordered, Solution for PWM ;) take the heatpipe off, turn it around and resinstall it on PWM, have the NB hang off the top of mb, Put a fan on it.
I don't know how much you love your TT BT but I already started to modify mine, bent the pipes straight up reinstalled the shroud, just need to make a mounting kit for it to fit on the NB. delta fan and done. :up:
What he was trying to say is that if I go from 1 card to 2 cards, 13k would be able to go to 19k. I'm trying to get a few extra points now with my nb multi bumped up by 1 so its at 3.3ghz or so. Dropped htt down to 25 because it first froze during the cpu tests for '06, so I figured I'd finally get a full run of '05 in now. It also bumped my AQ3 up to 159k from 156k.
Yah I know that, just think he's being a little optimistic, add 1 card with lower end models and it scales decent, add 3rd card and scaling isn't as linear. I think thats evident with bens score of only 23,324 with 3 4870's.....Quote:

My definition of stability is no reboots or hangs whatsoever in any application (games as well, which can be a big deal).
I want to also note that the OCZ Reaper memory I have seems to always be reported as DDR2 800 in every mb I've tried it in (and believe me I've tried it in at least 3 different mbs). I feel like I was kinda cheated on that; I probably won't be buying any more memory from them.
One more thing; it would be really cool if there was a way of knowing which component/components were holding you back. I had a couple of ahci64***(don't remember the exact thing) errors. There were also a couple of sound corruption issues (followed by crashes).
Let me say that I'm still very happy; my system is noticeably more responsive than the 3.0ghz 9850 I was running. It's butter smooth. I can't wait to try this under Windows 7 64bit.

While this is not prime stable by any means, I am none the less happy that I was able to complete this along with half a dozen or so SuperPI 1m runs before it crashed. Especially with this (ES) chip.

Cybercat might I make one other suggestion, Your using 8 gigs with all 4 dimm slots populated, this tends to add stress to the mem0ry controller.( yes i know how to spell )
Try running only 4 gigs and see what you can acchieve, I know you probably have no plans to run 24/7 with 4 gigs but it would help determine what is limitng your OC.

Today I decided to get rid of my soundcard and uninstalled drivers. Then I tested my RAM, only for 40% coverage though, about 1.5hours, without a single error. I just run Prime95 for 1.5hours without issues. Although I dont know how Intelburntest relates to Prime95, this is quite weird nonetheless.
I also read a few single OC results from Intel users that adding FSB VTT and NB Volts (NB as in motherboard of course) helped them getting rid of this BSOD rage.
Thus far it seems to be all fine and happy but Ive this curse everytime Im convinced it's fixed it happens some way again. Does anyone have experience with this particular BSOD? Any tips or whatever?
Im even thinking that Intelburntest might not be such a good program after all. It's nice, but Prime95 managed to get my load temps higher and I cant believe that 15 minutes of Intelburntest defeats say a 8hr run of Prime95:shrug:
Anyway, having no sound at this point, thinking Ill use my onboard sound after. Saves me from a load of crap anyway and onboard sound ain't all that bad nowadays:rolleyes:
Hmmm ramm, vid card related in some cases, sounds like PCI or PCI traffic.
Curious if the PCI lock works, is it set to auto? sometimes at auto or default 100 it's not really locked, ruuning it manual at 101 can sometimes lock it.
I do get that exact code when really pushing this rig, more voltage does not fix it for me, bringing NB temps lower does....
Doesn't seem like SB, usually the easiest way to determing SB issues is your hard drive will "katunk" and BSOD.
Ain't getting BSOD's anymore now, my PC restarted this test I just started instead of BSODíng.
Ive PCI-e at 100, but Ill set it to 101 then just to be sure. GPU related, highly unlikely to be honest. There could have died a million things but GPU, no:p:
Anyway, seems like I hit my max clocks for CPU then with +0.150V, 3.7Ghz (or slightly above that but it just restarted at 3.755:rolleyes:).

Can be gpu related if the GPU can not handle a high PCI frequency ;) not all gpu related errors are due to actual ocing of the card.

I went from 2.7+ish to 3.7+ so I had almost a 1ghz clock speed change so it was a needed upgrade...

for me 3700 and has a crash temp of about 44 degrees but 3500 doesnt even crash at 51 degree.

Well often it fails before it even gets a chance to heat up. Like if I try 3.5 at stock vcore, I'm lucky if the OS boots. I've been using smartguardian to monitor temps. Core Temp would act funky (temp would get stuck it seems). Anyway, other than the floor fan I don't have many options to lower temps, but I'll post back here if I think of something. I don't own an external temp probe.Quote:
