the 402 bios for p5e is a DAMNED BIOS !!!! I used the same config that I was using with 401 and it doesnt boot ! i changed many times the ratio of ram and fsb and nothing to do! my pc doesnt boot ! it has been not able to boot for 4 3 hours! i re connect every component of my hardware, cpu, vga,psu..and nothing...did the clear cmos 20 times...unplug the battery 30 times! .. nothing, my pc didnt boot... and after 3 hours it started... but still cant use my old configurations.... this is a damned bios!
I am gonna to try the new 405.... :shakes:
0405 bios ... hmm ... bugged voltages, 3 hang ups in a row in bios later in windows ( with some blue screens as bonus ), 0.5x multis, end of testing ...
yep, 0405 is bugged again :-(
What are you doing asus???
Voltage problems: starts at 2.6 default???
405 is bugged too....
voltage vcore start from 2.6v ....
if i try to change the dram voltage value, my bios freeze..
I had also 3 times a frozen screen when i was tiping some others values into bios... i have still the boot problem when i reboot and when I boot after new configuration bios... I have no words for to describe my disappoint... this motherboard cost a lot...and I still have problems while I boot ... my vote is 0!
also with 3.03, 4.01, 4.02 I get almost instantly memory errors with memtest86 in dos.
With bios 0107 no probs whatsoever.
Please Asus stop fooling around, we want a working bios.
ANyone else got these strange memory errors?
2 x corsair xms2dhx 1024 = 2048 memory sticks.
What CPU do you get errors with eyes.only?
guys, how to flash an older bios ? with asus update from windows I cant... could you teach me how to do that ? thanks....
Thats exactly what i was experiencing. As i said, 0107 is the only stable and not bugged with stupid memory errors for me so far. With this BIOS the board is fantastic. I think the approaching ASUS has done with 201 and following to the Maximus BIOS is going bad, very bad.
Uninstall the newest AsusUpdate and then download and install this one. Flash with stock clocks and all should be well.
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/fl...sUpdt61002.zip
For some reason the newer AsusUpdate refuses to flash back to older an older bios after the new releases for the P5E and Maximus...this version of AU works though!
Asus are being :banana::banana::banana:ing nob jockeys.... Can't get the :banana::banana::banana:ing 4:5 divider working is a joke.... I'm not new to this bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: though....I was waiting for a good AW9D-MAX bios for a year..lol.
Board has real potential but stop :banana::banana::banana:arseing around asus
Start flashing to any BIOS you want. When the BIOS is flashing, turn off the computer. The BIOS will get corrupted. Then, when you boot, the board will ask you to introduce the drivers CD in order to fix that BIOS, replacing it with the BIOS contained in the CD (0107). So you can now flash with AU to any BIOS you want, but I strongly recommend 0107
Flashing from within Windows? In AsusUpdate, go to the options and tick the "Downgrade Bios" box and click ok. Now update the bios from a file, search for the file and it should stop for a while, almost as though the app' crashed, just leave it and then it'll let you flash. Again, leave it alone to do its thing, after about 3-4mins it should be done. It may seem like it has crashed during the flashing process, but it hasn't!
DO NOT REBOOT IF YOU THINK IT'S CRASHED! FLASH IT AGAIN AND AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET A GOOD FLASH! Only once the flash has been verfied can you reboot safely!
perfect.. the "key" was to tick the option "Downgrade Bios" box... i flashed with 107 bios and When i rebooted, the system did shut down... it happens very often... so i musted swtich off from the power button... i begin to hate this motherboard...
thanks for help....
Do you know what Asus Crashfree BIOS 3 (don´t know if spelled correctly) does? When for any reason the BIOS gets corrupted, it restore any "P5E.ROM" it can find on the removable devices you have plugged into the board, it can be a floppy, a CD, a pendrive... in the drivers CD the contained one is the 0107, check it :yepp:. That was the only solution that works for me, manually corrupt the BIOS to force the backwards flash.
the only issue i have with 0402 is that every 4-5 reboots it doesnt post and i need to press reset to get it going. other that that its running OK
I haven't had any real issues yet, but I've only been running the board maybe 3 days. All I know is it is a LOT better than my P5W DH was in terms of stability and speed.
Y'all are getting me worried though. If I need to get another mobo, I need to do it quick while I can still exchange it.
This mobo friggin' rocks. ASUS just needs to pull there head outa there ass and fix this crap.
the mobo speaks loud for quality and potential but asus needs to resolve some serious bios issues.
Hey guys, im running the p5e wit a q6600 and 4 gigs of crucial ballstix 6400 with 203 bios, is there a better version i should upgrade too?dono if its me but mine benchmarks dont seem right for my pc
3dmark06 i got 12496
Everest Memory Benchmark i got
For Memory Read = 6624 mb/s
For Memory Write = 4871 mb/s
For Memory Copy = 5535 mb/s
For Memory Latency = 74.3 ns
The only reason i upgrade my bios from 107 was because on the asus site it said if im running a quad i should have 201 or later, the pc seems to run ok but not great any other bios worth upgradin to, i dont plan to overclock run just stock settings for now
From the sounds of i, you should stick to the working BIOS you have. Lot of folks are having issues with all of the newer ones...
Yes, but you are using different memory?
Whatever I do inside the bios, standard, light overclock, all manual settings, the only bios that doesn't give memory errors with memtest86 1.7 in dos, is the 0107 version. One set of sticks operates at 1.8 volt on my p5b, putting them in my p5e with 1.8~2.3 volts doesn't matter a thing, errors, errors, errors.
So should i stay with 203 or flash back to 107 since everybody here seems to like it?
Ok, last time asking so PLEASE help... Could someone post their config for 4ghz (with a dual preferably)?? It's killing me as this chip boots 4ghz fine with 1.4v and will run any bench but even 1.55v in orthos it just restarts overnight...temps don't break 55c and the chip can do 3.8ghz with 1.38v.
A guy over on AMD.mb.com (PC Perspective) had problems as he flashed up into newer bios with this board. He is very experienced in building as was not overclocked.
He tried 3 different sets of RAM and kept getting random blue screens.
I am not getting the OC I have with my P5W DH nor the smoothness either.
I am thinking about dumping this board myself, due to the extensive issues I read on here plus my experience.
EYES I don't know what else to tell you to try, but the earlier BIOS works so stay there.
Wow - I JUST dumped my P5W DH for this board and I love this board SO much more. Higher OC, more stable, etc...
I'm wondering where all of this inconsistency is coming from? Maybe I had a crappy P5W? Maybe you have a crappy P5E?
I don't know.
C'mon ASUS! Help us out here.
IMPORTANT:
Guys I don't know if you've taken your heatpipe setup off yet to reapply some real TIM, but I did as soon as I got mine. The board was freezing when I got it (15 degrees outside). I pulled the 4 screws off and the SB pins and the thing came right off - very cool (I've heard of people detroying their P5E's trying to "unstick" the heatpipe/heatsinkn stuff - stick it in the freezer for an hour before you try.
Anyway what I found was AWFUL - the NB only has slight contact on the 4 corners with the heatsink. There's NO WAY there could ever be adequate cooling of the NB on my board. So, I quickly lapped the NB and SB and the copper heatsink/heatpipe. I then applied some very good paste.
I wonder if this might be your issue - I wish I would have taken pictures of at least the NB contact - your jaws would hit the floor.
So far my P5E has been rock solid (granted my FSB isn't real high (only 378x9)) but this board has been real solid and I'm running my mem at 3:4.
Do me a favor and FIX the NB heatsink contact. LAP that S.O.B.
I don't know maybe you have a better P5E than I. :D
I can't fault the P5w DH for sure! Best board I ever had.
I just ran 3d01 at a reduced OC that it ran at fine yesterday and it froze. Who knows why- but I am getting tired.
When I see others having a variety of issues it does not set well with me.
Problem is where do I go from here gigabyte x38, ASUS P5K????
Maybe the x38 is a loser chipset???????????????????????????????
sparx
I started to remove mine and quit when I saw so many traces near those PITA plastic toggle bolts for a lack of a better name. POS holders- how's that?
Anyway I got 56 year old eyes and still read the paper without specs, but those pins are small with traces so close and hard to release. I redid the TIM on my PH5 and your description does not shock me at all.
Why the heck do they go thru all the trouble to put these sinks on these boards with making poor contact with the components?
Your freezer comment is consistant with what I have heard in the past.
Maybe I run the puter in the freezer for a test? :ROTF:
sparx
Haha!
As afar as the traces go, just get a small pair of needle nose and be gentle - pull hard on the pin, while you're squeezing the catches together with the pliers and they just pop out without any work.
I think the X38 is a great chipset, so far for me... I will find out what the thing is really capable of when my E8500 gets here and I have to go into high FSB territory. I hope I won't be disappointed, because I won't be able to return the board in January. :(
We'll see. Give it a shot so to speak. :)
Yes I have removed them in the past but not with so many traces around them, one slip and you have a bunch of open circuits.
Just got 3d01 to run and the scores are lower. I use 3d01 as a vcore test, if the vcore is too low 3d01 will let you know- an fail to complete.
I have about had it with this thing.
sparx
I'm amazed you're only running 1.4Vcore. My (good) week27 E6600 takes 1.425V for 3.4GHz.
Also, what's you're NB voltage set at? I've heard the X38 barely needs any voltage compared to the 975x/P965 - I think I have mine on the first statically set option (1.20V?)
I also did the VDroop mod with a conductive pen - that may be a huge difference too.
nb is 1.50
Just trying lowering your NB volts as a test. Radio Shack has conductive pens. That is one small resistor lemme tell ya - had to use my 7MP camera on macro to check my work. To be honest, I haven't really checked the VCore other than monitoring them during idle and then hammering it with Orthos - no change whatsoever.
I have no VDroop now. I didn't have a 2B pencil on hand (only HB), so I decided to try my conductive pen and it's been rock solid. I of course disabled LoadLine option in BIOS. I haven't checked it with a mulitmeter (I have one, just don't know where to check it on the mobo :) )
Sparx - I have BIOS set to 1.425VCore and ProbeII shows 1.42VCore (can't display 3 after the decimal). I'd say things are right on.
Supposedly the dangers of the conductive pen are that a small overvoltage can occur, but at only 1.425 VCore, I'm far enough away from any danger zone. I usually never run more than 1.5VCore ever 24/7.
is Vdroop really that big of a problem on the p5e? i should have mine up and running tomorow and i would rather not use a pencil to fix it, maybee ill wait for asus to get there act together and fix the bios issues.
Yes my graphite application is not as good a conductor as your pen, no surprise to me.
I am lowering FSB now and testing with 3d01 looping and things are not looking good.
I put a small fan on the NB, (i have one on my p5W Dh) to cool it better.
I have little patience with this board left.
I guess the P5wdh spoiled me. :wth:
IMO that conductive pen is the way to close a circuit.
sparx
Yes - it does close the circuit. I don't know if that's a bad thing though quite yet.
CPU-Z shows 1.416V with BIOS set @ 1.425V
Sparx - I'm serious about disassembling the NB sink and lapping it all. It'd be a shame to give up on the board if that was the cause of some of the issues.
I really wish I would've taken a picture dangit! The P5W didn't have this issue really because the tiny die itself contacted the sink as you know. That said, I'll take the X38's heatspreader over that dang tiny ass 975X die. I remember being able to just barely touch the sink on my P5W andlock up my box completely. And that was with a lapped stock sink and/or an aftrmarket lapped NB cooler.
Things are getting worse!
I have been trying to loop 3d01 as I mentioned. Dropped the speed to 350 and got a black screen. Would not run more than 10 minutes, normally have to get 12 hours to pass my test. A couple of days ago I ran Ortho for 12 hours!
So I cleared the CMOS and reset all bios and tried 350 x 9 again got a black screen
So I set it to 333 x9 tried again and now I have a bright frozen screen.
I wonder if the 8800gtx is causing this?
What PITA $550.00 for a video card $230.00 for a MB and it cannot run one pass of 3d01 @2996 or 3.0 let's call it.
sparx
Yikes - something defintely doesn't sound right at all there.
I'd RMA your board if you still can, get a brand new one and mod it like I did. I still have faith in this board.
Either that or swap for an Maximus Formula - just stick with the X38 though.
Kinda wish I went with Max Form, but I'm not having issues here so I'll wait it out.
can somebody plz tell me which bios is the most stable and has least amount of problems, currently running 203 and have few cold boots and few lock up issues and few errors on memtest
It is getting worse.
I cannot run 2 loops of 3dMarks01 with it set 333 x 9. I have set everything conservative and even put a fan blowing on the video card.
The graphics card temps are 72C load 66C idle I think that is within spec.
I don't know what the heck is up here, motherboard, video card or both.
I doubt it is the RAM.
I guess I could put my 8800 gtS in there and test again, think I would have to replace the drivers.
I was going to try 300 x 9 but there is no need at this point.
This stinks for sure.
sparx
Well I just got it put together today!! It took some time to figure some things out and it was a bit of a pain in the ass but, I am getting it now. I was to used to my P5W. With my old P5W my q6600 topped out at 3600 and after just a little tweeking my Q6600 is at 3807mhz. That was just part of the getting to know you phase. Now I'm can start to get after it!!
Here is a shot of where I am at now. I am using the bios that was on the board. the107 I believe.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/x-38.jpg
I will tweek away as soon as possible!!
WZ
Very nice indeed. That's why I dumped my P5W - great board, but memory management and high FSB aren't it's strength. Still a faster board, clock for clock than anything out yet.
Great work!
Dunno if it's posted already, but a new BIOS is out for P5E.
Version 0405 2007/11/30 update
Description P5E BIOS 0405
1. Fix system freezes if been interrupted by USB devices before entering S3
2. Enable support for N/2 Ratio option
3. Fix system may not boot with total of 4GB of ECC DIMM when enabling Memory Remapping option in BIOS
Hmm then i'm staying with 0107 :D
One of these weeks I think ASUS will give a great BIOS!
i have problem to start my p5e3 with Cellshock memory 1800 sigh
with supertalent start but with cell 1800 dont start
someone know why?
Quote:
2. Enable support for N/2 Ratio option
????
So who here has the inside communication track with ASUS's Taiwan BIOS coders? ASUS US tech support stright up tells you that they have no ability to pass along any BIOS feedback. That's GHEY.
ok just installed 2nd D9GMH crucial kit , bios 402 running rock stable , no problems whatsoever.
http://img505.imageshack.us/img505/1203/2345fa6.jpg
ok loaded 405 , for the love of god DO NOT LOAD THIS BIOS !!!!111!1 it completely messed my bios settings plus sets 2.6 vcore automatically. i dont believe this , is asus testing the bioses before they relase it?
now i cant flash any bios i have , ez flash not working as well as AU. AU says i dont have an asus mobo and ez flash that my bios is older than onboard and stops.....
.....
....
can't you do a DOS flash using AFUDOS?
Well that is not fair.... I worked 11 hours today so it has only been a short evening.
Still running the bios that came on the board. Good enough for me.
Today I turned the fsb to 425 and tightened the memory to 4-4-4-8 and it is running out just fine. It has now blown away anything I ever did with this chip on my P5W.:yepp:
Oh early on in this thread someone mentioned that the Swiftech Apogee did not fit because of some cooling fins. Well I bent my fins to make it f!it
OK here is the pic.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_0404a.jpg
Like a glove!!
now here is a couple tests I rant at 3825mhz. Pi anyone?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/4pis.jpg
Then I ran 06 with my 8800GTX at stock just to check the cpu score.
Oh, and to see if it would run it tight after the pi... it did.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...la/06alive.jpg
Oh and one more shot just for the fun of it!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../IMG_0403a.jpg
I got to tell you I am really starting to like this board maybe a little more than I should.....woohoo........ it is kinda sexy...:ROTF:
I amazed how my G.Skill 6400HZ is getting close to DDR1100!
It's all good here!!

Asus P5E3 Deluxe Bios 0704

@WeldZilla
Do you really need 1.624 vcore for 3.825 Mhz? I am on 3.6 Mhz prime and OCCT stable with just 1.376 vcore
hi guys
i bought a P5E for my new rig , my question is:
when i set for example 1.9vdim in bios , the Asusuite show 2.0v or 2.1v
or 1.95v bios = 2.15v in Asusite
and so on ..............
whats the correct voltage???'
i already tried all Bios , and all seems to do same thing , now im with 0303 bios
regards
The higher value is correct, this board, or rather this PCB (both the Maximus and the P5E) overvolt the ram significantly!!!
you know I will have to turn it down as I go. I always start volts high and go down from there. But if i have to run higher volts I don't care. I want the clocks if 3600 were enough for me I wouild still be running my P5W DH cuz it would run this prossy x4 at 3600 and was faster while doing it. I got this board to run faster, if that means up to 1.675v then so be it. I could care less.
People used to fret cuz I ran my 2.4C SL6Z3 at 1.7V daily.Well it is 4 years old and still going... So do not get excited by my volts...
WZ
any reviews on P5E WS yet? it's finally here but no one seems to know how well it clocks... makes it hard to decide what to get.
Hi,the Team Xtreem DDR2 667MHz PC5300 work fine with the P5E?
Thank's
I have these memories and gives me that the problem with the motherboard P5E is that they do not give sufficient voltage to the reports to post. I have to enter the bios with other memories, raises the voltage and then put the teamxtream mem,
for me the best bios it´s 107 because i test the latest bios and have problem.
