Hmmmm..have tried all that i can think of... i have flashed to two different bios f5g and f6a, and have even gone back to f3 bios. However just simply enabling the CPU HOST CLOCK CONTROL (without any adjustment to the freq), makes the machine reboot back to the bios default setting..so it means i can not overclock...is my board broke...or am i missing a trick..
Guys,
Good news. I tried flashing back to the F4a bios again on the DQ6T and this time the flash allowed me to adjust FSB and multi... Maybe they revised F4A after realizing the bugs??
Anyway. I am very happy to report that this is the best bios so far (for me personally) on the DQ6T-DDR3 variant. I am finally able to boot my sticks memtest stable at 1800mhz +

CAS 7, 1900 mhz 7-7-7-20
It took 2.19 volts to get there with active cooling.
I think these sticks have CAS 8 2000mhz with some tweaking:
Or maybe the old QFlash 2.02 was botched, which is why they updated to 2.05?
Wow overall from reading in this thread. It seems that Gigabyte has sure dropped the ball when it comes to their BIOS performance....sad...I love my P965 DQ6. Doesn't look like I will be updating it any time soon.

I'm encountering something really strange with my board here, when I change my CPU settings to manual in BIOS and start overclocking, the changes get reset after the next cold boot. Not all BIOS settings, just mem timings and CPU goes back to auto. I've not experienced any instability while running overclocked so I don't know why it's doing this. Anyone else experienced anything like this? I'm using F3 BIOS by the way.
My X38-DQ6 is going back to the etailer I bought it from. Nice 15% restock fingering, but worth it IMO.
Seeya Gigalol.
here is some info on the 600+ Mhz FSB benching on the X38-DQ6
I plan to test the same on X38T-DQ6 shortly
for me F3 bios is rock solid :) I will try to do some testing with F5/F6 based ones as well to test my requests :)

how is this board coming along, i might get one again, formula wouldnt let me clock past 3.7 and had issues with my memory.....i hope the new bios's have fixed some things.
Realtek HD codec drivers, version 1.81:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false
Basically, don't flash to F6b as overclocking with that BIOS is impossible. I flashed back to F5F and was able to boot to 420 FSB without any issues. F6e wouldn't let me go past the stock 333 FSB speed.
Looks like F5h is crap as well. Can't seem to OC very well with 4 DIMMs in this board.
I bought at NCIX. I was surprised they let me return it. I set up a refund RMA and decided to keep it and wait for a good BIOS that never came. Missed my 15 day return window. I re-emailed them and asked if I could still return it. The agreed too the return with a 15% restock fee that I gladly accepted :p:
Now just have to figure out what to get now. I dont really want to wait for the DFI X38, so I might get the P35 T2R. I would love to get the Transpiper free "LT" edition but I cannot find any in Canada.
Still thinking on it.
My first x38-dq6 did the constant on/off thing and resetting the bios or changing the battery did'nt fix it, so I rma'd it.
I just got my replacement from newegg and It boots, but the bios hangs after the initial bootup screen. The classic never ending blinking cursor. I don't think I'm going to buy anything from gigacrap again. This is ridiculous.
:upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset: :upset:
The estimated release is the 28th if I remember correctly. Problem is I dont think I want much to do with X38. Looks like it is not worth it for DDR2 users and I refuse to spend the money they want for DDR3 with DDR2 prices the way they are. I also need to run 4GB, so that puts DDR3 even further away.
I also doubt that by thr time I need PCI-E 2.0 it will either already have another rev, or I will have a completely different system. That with terrible BIOS support across the board and DFI's ability to miss targets P35 sounds pretty good to me.
Where I really went wrong was I had a Evga 680i that actually worked and could run my Q6600 at 4ghz prime stable and I sold it to get the Gigalol X38. What a mistake...
Yesterday I flashed the bios with F6b version , and i was able to boot to 3.6 ( 450 X 8 ) , and i try now to OC the memory to 1200 :)Quote:

I honestly don't know. F4 and anything past F5F doesn't let me do squat with this board. I just get the three reboots back to default settings. The P35-DS3R treated me a lot better.
You mean the failed overclock recovery thing. :ROTF: Did you try and adjust settings:)Quote:
did the constant on/off thing
This mobo has one of the best failed oc recovery routines i've seen. Yes it can spit out it's dummy at times, particularly if you don't get the memory sub timings right but it works for me. Only thing i'm a bit dissapointed in is max fsb, but having said rthat it's pretty well in line with what i've seen on the Asus max.
Does anyone else have problems accessing www.station-drivers.com
??....i can't seem to get the page to load, any new bios out yet?
[QUOTE=Supershanks;2544033]You mean the failed overclock recovery thing. :ROTF: Did you try and adjust settings:)
It worked great the first day and ran like a champ, but the next day I hit the power button and on... off... on... off... But instead of resetting to defaults and booting up after a couple of those, it never stopped until I turned off the psu.
Taking out the battery and resetting the cmos did nothing.... it just wouldn't post. Just on and off until power was cut. Now the one I got back from rma is hanging with a blinking cursor in the top left corner after initial post and I can't get into the bios or flash it, so it's going back too. Not too impressed so far with Gigabyte and I have been oc'n for 10+ years.
Guys, for anyone interested....Creative has released new (non WHQL) drivers dated October 25th 2007; www.soundblaster.com ; www.guru3d.com
Phatty....i had the same issue when i installed my new mobo, it came with F3 and i flashed to F5g...had the same issue. I took out the CMOS battery and waited a minute.
After that i had no issues and have flashed a few times since.
Did the same.
Oh my mistake , that's tough. So far not had any issues. Yesterday i had it struggling, trying 485 fsb thought i was going to have to use the clr cmos, but it sorted itself.Quote:

Another thing I am noticing is a lot you guys have 2 x 2GB PC2-8500 RAM kits. I'm thinking this board has problems when using 4 x 1GB.
One of the reasons i went with the PC2-8000 kit, 4x1GB is supposed to have performance issues.
Then I would consider that to be an engineering issue on the DQ6 which needs to be fixed. As I mentioned, the P35-DS3R treated me better in this regard and it looks like the Maximus does not have this issue. I'm not ready to dump $400+ into a 4GB kit.
Back to the P35 it is.
I had the maximus for a month, and it has these issues, wich everyone else expierienced so it wasnt specifically me...
- cpu would not load 100% when using over 1.5v or a frequency over 3.7ghz...sometimes it depends on voltage or frequency.
- my ram would not pass for over one hour occt ram test, even with 2 sticks
- voltages fluctuate from 1.5 to 3v!!!! which is very unsafe for a long period of time
- 450fsb was max for my q6600, anything over gave bsod while trying to pass occt.....no matter the voltage
overall the maximus could have been a great board if it wasnt for the stupid EPU controlling voltages and crippling the board.....overall i would take the gigabyte board over the maximus because 1 problem is better than 4 big ones....this is from someone who has used both boards for a long period of time
wow you back with that board
i honestly think maximus was better
PHATTY
I know this is a long thread to read but in a previous post i recommend...
NO EXTERNAL eSATA devices be connected and powered on when BOOTING
otherwise you get the blinking cursor top left with no boot!!!
I have experienced same exact issues as you
take out the cmos again, might have to do this more than once.
I love this board, (started out hating it for first couple of days).
Now I am thinking how good this true crossfire board with 2x16xPCIe slots and two ATI HD3870 512MB's will be a killer setup.
I imagine this setup will do over 25,000 in 3dmark06!
GAR>>>>> Glad to see your back! I haven't done much at but used it! I did mess around with a little overclocking this afternoon, and had the FSB up to 542 X 7...... Was running good.
I keep it right at theses settings, and its runs nicely.......
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ntitled-13.jpg
:] glad to be back hehe, ok now first off, what voltage should be stable for me for my quad on the MCH, pci-e and fsb???? thanks.
Build quality is much better on the gigabyte board i gotta say.
GAR, Sorry I'm not quad coring yet. Still running a dual core! Waiting till next year, so I can get a new.......45er !!
I'm sure someone with a quad will speak up, there are a heck of a lot of them running them with our board...............
Good Luck..............Glad To See Your Back To Your GIG.....
OK, so got my cpu at 3.825 (425x9) stable, needs 1.58-1.62v tho, temps stay around 70c on load so im ok with that voltage, if this cpu lasts me 8 months im good...........anyway now i need to work on the ram, will report back when i get it running stable..........so far so good for my second time around with this board.....:D
So the memory performance according to everest.....can someone show a screen of everest.
ok guys, a problem i had with the maximus as well, i am using vista x64 and OCCT 1.1.1B wont pass, im using custom RAM test for 1 hr, says crashed, prime blend passes, memtest passed as well.......wierd how both maximus and gigabyte failed OCCT, im starting to think this program sucks....anyone else????
What is the best bios for overclocking memory on this board????
I have tested with ext e-SATA hdd when booting without any problems on both my P35-DS4 & X38-DQ6.
If U do have problems it usually leads to the bios seeing the e-sata as the 1st boot-up option & tries it 1st & since there is a hdd but no OS on it, it will either give U that screen U speak of or "pls insert bott blah-blah-blah" thingy...
anyone using an 8800GT with this board?????? if so what pci-e MHZ are you using and what clocks are you using, thanks.
I've tested 2 of them in a week. PCI-e was set from Auto to 129 no prob at all with 3d marks and card clocks:

also, 3dmark and ati tool are no longe a good way to test stability.............try crysis :p:
Turbo all the way, never lowered that value also memory extreme - maybe is only me too speed addicted and never set them lower
I just tested these two cards, when they come on the marked in a week or two and then returned them, so i didn't care about stability. I love my GTX and there's still nothing to change it with :(

That's the strangest moment +0.35v if i remember correct :) But 1 time that gives me no boot after setting to Auto all works perfect, if set to auto = no boot then set to +0.35 and all work:rolleyes: Long story short - try these 2 combinations and the 1 works when other don't :D
Hi guys!!
Ok i intalled all my new rig yesterday, freshly RMA'ed board, new cooling loop.
Pushed the power button...Boot...off...Boot...off!!!! Noooo! the infamous on-off cycle!! Removed the batt, wait 5 min....On and off again...Almost started to cry...
Wait!! Remove the memory stick, put it in the other bank and tadam!!!!! It worked!!! I even booted directly to windows without any prob!! No need to re-intall XP.
Since the first board didnt even boot, that was a huge improvement, Temp are ok since i didnt even clean the cpu and simply put the fuzion block wihtout cleaning or adding new paste, i will re-install everything clean this week (i'm still waiting for my new psu (ocz 700W)
I played a little bit in bios, i'm at 8x400 by now and it's stable, with load temp at about 58-60C@1.4v Should drop that a little bit with clean setup, by now i have 10' long tubing...
I will play more when i will have my new psu, i dont trust my Ultra-X3 crappy one.
BIOS F5G solved my previous problem of not being able to overclock. Well, I could overclock but as soon as I did a cold boot my OC settings would get thrown out. Guess F3 didn't like my Cellshock RAM.
Well
I think I took all what I could from the mobo
at least untill next version of bios :D
http://www4.0zz0.com/2007/11/11/14/54273104.jpg
I was able to boot to 3.870 ( 430x9 ) , but the system not stable
Im happy that i could overclocked my memory to 1130
Can anyone access this website: www.station-drivers.com
??...i haven't been able to access it for days.
Thanks for the info Richard.

Well I wrote too soon. The cold boot problem reared it's ugly head again. I tried flashing to the latest beta because it stated that it fixes a problem with settings being randomly lost but that BIOS is terrible. I can barely get it to boot at stock settings. Back to F5G and as soon as I cold boot, OC settings get thrown out. Strangely, I haven't seen anyone else mention this problem.
Try F@H for 12/24h once you can afford it. If OCCT RAM fails, suerely F@H will fail also, I even find it more sensitive than OCCT RAM, but it will need too much time while OCCT does it in 1-2h run. As I told you before, try OCCT RAM on stock settings, if it works, you get your answers.
I'm desperately looking at these X38 boards threads, and all the time, same problems I now have on my P5B deluxe when I want to exceed 390MHz FSB: all passes, but OCCT RAM (1-2h) and F@H 10h reboot. Looks like I should stick to my P5B deluxe since the problem looks the same, just some 10-15MHz FSB more stability with the X38
OCCT weird program because it doesnt really fail, screen goes blank and occt is still running, it makes windows explorer crash...i loose my background but when it recovers occt is still running.
anyone have any problems with divider 4:5................sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesnt, when it booted it passed memtest with no issues, this is with bios f5h, it worked finr with f3 but i had less bandwidth........f5 gives better memory performance.
Good day
I have the same problem, and I realy dont know what I need to do.
Can some one help me? I know it's the Bios the problem, but I don't know what I need to change to have 3.0 GHz again thank you for your help
and special thanks to you SGT Viper :)

I haven't been able to access the site in days.
Bah, if RAM fails or the NB, you'll get such windows errors, OCCT RAM is stressing too much your RAM-NB subsystem
In the maximus thread, someone monitored a voltage drop of the RAM till a lower limit corresponding to the crash/errors. It reveals a heat issue on the 2 PWM of this board sourcing the RAM modules. Give it a check maybe it'll help you. And again, if OCCT is stable on stock and unstable on OC, it is rather bad news for your settings
By the way, what OC did you achieve now on the X38-DQ6, do you still have the Prime load issue you had on the Maximus?
I'm stuck at +/- 380Mhz FSB on a QX6850 and the X38T-DQ6 version... reading this post I think I sould try another bios different from the F4a that i'm currently using. Will update the info later...
The Qx should be no problem. Fix the FSB at 266MHz, and increase the CPU multiplier. You'll be only left with vcore and PLL voltage to adjust. You can forget all the rest, your NB will be stock and the RAM too, so you can get your stable vcore/PLL combo for the speed you like.
After that, increase the FSB and decrease multiplier till you reach the speed you got in step 1
Now, you can tweak vFSBT, vNB, vSB, vDDR, timings, memory dividers...
Buying a QX to stuck at 380MHz is a total waste
OCCT 1.1.1a has a bug under Vista in RAM test.
There is a new version (1.1.1b) that works perfectly under Vista but it tests only 256M of RAM per core
"Update" from f4a to f3g, looks like it went well...Quote:

Unlike Prime95 blend mode, with only 1Gb on a quadcore, the FSB-NB-RAM are way much stressed. I never tested 500Mb on a C2D though, so can't compare. But look at the maximus thread. Many are now having their Prime stable, but not OCCT in RAM mode. If OCCT RAM fails, even F@H will fail from time to time on >12h run while OCCT RAM will fail in 1 to 2h. The new chips with a quad core are difficult to overclock because of an FSB-NB-RAM issue. Only OCCT in RAM mode unveals it, and F@H (but needs longer runs).
The Samurai in the maximus thread got his board at 3.9GHz on a Q6600 OCCT RAM stable
Great FSB in deed. Now, go for your maximum CPU clock. Impatient to see your results too
F7a beta is :banana::banana::banana:ED UP!!....serious issues, as in the bios no longer detects my Plextor 716SA SATA drive....and once again you can't overlclock...as in setting my standard 425x8=3.4GHz....it won't POST.
It's screwed, back to an early bios me thinks...F3 perhaps.
No what now..i am REALLY getting angry with Gigbyte and the utter RUBBISH they pass off as bios....how long has the board been out now?????
Still not a single stable and final bios, i regret selling my P35 board now.
Nope, the prime issue is gone, now my cpu is at 3.843ghz and my ram has the occt issue even at its rated speed, even a bit lower, like i said doesnt really fail, it makes windows crash and occt still runs fine in the background, very weird.....its the only stability software i have issues with, im starting to question its credibility.......but i still have an issue with the 4:5 mem divider, sometimes it boots, sometimes it doesnt.
Ups, it is not a bios, it is a link to last beta of OCCT
I see, didn't note you were on Vista64. I can't answer you so as I didn't see many users tests on OCCT and Vista64, but OCCT is supposed to be Vista64 compatible
Hope you sort your issues. As long as there's some mutiplier errors in your RAM, you can't be sure of OCCT result. Also, the NB is much stressed with OCCT RAM, not only the RAM...
If you have time, I'll be interested if you can check OCCT RAM on bios default settings for every thing to be sure. Anyway, do it just if you have time, at least it can tell you for sure if it is your OC or Vista64
Anyway, hope these devider issues with X38 boards will be soon solved. Do you think they could be hardware issues as they are present on many different brand motherboards?
I'm playing with my new combo and i have a strange issue (i'm not a pro OC'er...)
I'm at 400*9 and when i put more than 1.55V on the cpu cpuz dint have that munch vdrop, but when i load it on prime the vcore raise to about 1.62!! Normaly it should go lower under load not higher!
If i put 1.500 or less it will drop on load...Did i miss something??
Be carefull with BIOS flashing and RAM frequencies.
Last night the MB was able to corrupt the boot block of both BIOS flash chips and the image on the HD.
Now the board is in RMA and I hope I can subsititute with an Asus.
Damn......
you make your post read like i was the one who had a flash failure.;)...not me!:)
yeah sorry about that haha it wasn't my intention.
the same thing happen to me , until i was able to OC my ram to 1120Quote:
I had the BIOS corruption not after a flash but after setting my memories at 1040 MHz.
The "funny" thing is that my DDR2 are PC-8500 (1066 MHz).
http://www5.0zz0.com/2007/11/15/16/89476836.jpg
just you need some adjustments in the bios
