I doubled checked that this morning, and yes, it is enabled in BIOS, but I don't see the Jmicron boot screen. The problem is this: I can't get the IDE CD-ROM to work! As I said, when I disconnect the IDE cable from the Mobo, the drive powers up, and I can open/close it. Once I connect the cable, it acts dead. I've tried a million things and cables, and same thing.

Thus, i can't even start the XP installation because I can't boot up onto the CD-Rom drive....it just looks at the blank HD and floppy drive, and then asks me to insert a boot disk and press any key.

I think you have to RMA that mofo, you've done all you can. The only other thing you can try is another CD-ROM, but that's just another $30 out of your pocket. That Jmicron chip has issues.

yeah...too many issues :(

I already called ZZF to get the RMA, and will send it back. Sucks becuase they wont refund money, but can only "exchange". So now I gotta wait a whole week or whatever before I get anything :mad:

Newegg > ZZF ! :fact:

I haven't experienced any probs with the JMicron controller with my dvd-rw connected. The best thing about it is that it don't needs any drivers to work with windows.
RMA your mobo asap cause it gave u more than a lot probs.

why is my pci-x lane stuck @ 1x ???? my performance is getting affected adversly due to this.

Do you know how long it's going to take to get a replacement? I sent back a P5B DLX to them and they are telling me that they'll only send me my replacement board in 1-2 weeks AFTER they have sent the board back to the factory!:mad: I'm still trying to figure out what options I've got to pressure them to act quicker.

Their policy is ridiculous - I had a P5B burn out (literally) a ram slot 12 hours after install.!!!!!!!:eek:

Prices and their delivery are awesome, but they can't compete with newegg in service! At least newegg works with you on issues...these people took forever to get back with me, and gave me an attitude.

Ok, I'm hoping the community might be able to help me here:

Just built the following system:

Core 2 Duo E6700 Retail
Corsair XMS2 PC-8500 2GB
Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi AP Bios Verison 0614
SoundBlaster X-Fi Fata1ty
2x Western Digital 150GB Raptors in RAID 0 on ICH8R controller
Plextor PA-716A DVD-Writer on JMicro ATA controller
ATI Radeon x1900 XTX
Windows XP x64 Edition

If I run everything on default and set the memory to the DDR-1067Mhz setting, no problems, perfectly stable. If I change the memory voltage, processor voltage, FSB voltage...no problem.

If I tweak the FSB Frequency or the Multiplier even a single notch, Windows blows up in a blue screen:

MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

Can't get past this to save my life. Windows appears to be forcing me to lock-in the 266Mhz FSB. Any recommended settings to try? I'd really love to try and overclock this thing.

Is your RAM set to 1:1? Try a lower divider. I bet you have it on auto, and if you up the FSB you're overclocking the RAM. The Asus auto function is stupid that way. It takes your default SPD setting (1067) and just ups the RAM too, regardless of the SPD. 1067 is the max for that RAM, you probably can push it a little, but those fast chips are just binned, they are on the edge already. And you can clock to something insane with it at 1:1 or another divider that keeps the ram <= 1067.

guys a little update on this:

i have noticed, that if i set my NB Vcore to anything greater than 1.45V, then the PCI-X Link Width drops to 1x and the performance suffers a lot. Any clue why this is happening?????

I am not using an optical cable, but I had a similar problem with the later BIOS revisions.

Someone posted a fix in another thread that worked for me. Simply set your speakers to 'Large Speakers' in the preferences of the SoundMax utility.

Got the same problem.. The only way I found to solve it is to shut down the MB and wait 5 minutes, then it says that "overclocking failed [...]" and the card boots up... :rolleyes:

At what FSB are u experiencing this problem ?

Actually, at this moment. After i push power button, it restart once as usual, but after that nothing happens. WTF!!!!??

Failed OC?

I had this when I pushing my board at the start. I unplugged my USB devices as they were conflicting.

If not, then try reseting the CMOS on the board.

I doubt is failed OC, because it does not do anything after 1st restart. usually it will post after it. tried Clear CMOS, Unplugged PSU, etc. none works.

Well I take it you know what you're doing, so "incorrect wiring" is out of the question.

I'd say RMA the board then. Noone else has shed any light on this and tbh, the clearing CMOS / unplugging the power lead from system should have worked in some capactiy.

You can get another one, but again, tbh, these boards are ace when in the right hands. I'm not an ÃœBER OC'er and it does all that I want!

I've tried lower dividers (I think), I've tried to specify the RAM speed, I've tried voltages, different FSB's, auto on, auto off, nothing but the same blue screen:

Windows x64 will not let me touch the FSB. If I even tweak it a single Mhz from the default 266 to 267...BOOM. BSOD. I'm to the point where I think I have a chip or a board that is locked in somehow, even though I'm running BIOS 0614. The damn thing simply will not overclock. And if there's a way to lock in the memory speed so the FSB doesn't change it, I have no clue how do that...I'm always getting these stupid speed numbers reporting (DDR2-1133, DDR2-680, DDR2-1440?).

I'm about to call it quits and just run the thing stock. It's far too disappointing at this point.

How sure are you that you're "stable" at 3.5GHz... Failing 3DMark (especially '05) is a telltale sign ya need more VCore. Can you pass a 4 hour Large n Small FFT Orthos run?

I called my CC company and told them everything and put a dispute in....and got a temporary credit and ordered one from newegg (they are actually on sale right now cheaper than ZZF).

Long story short, ZZF got their panties wet and said they would issue me a credit, but it would still be 10 business days (why, I don't know).

Needless to say, I will NEVER buy anything from them again.....I dont care how great their prices are. Compared to newegg, they suck balls!:censored:

I got a board from ALLSTARPROSHOP.com and it was bad. They gave me a credit and I shipped the board back and they told me to by one somewere else so I can get it quicker. SO I bought my second one from ZipZoomFly and it arrived today. Much much better. 460FSB out the box with SuperPI 1M 13.868

I never have had a problem with them at all. Thats odd. THey are usually very good with Customer Service in my experience.

I bought my MoBo and Corsair RAM from ZZF, guess what? I tried to RMA my RAM and the bastards never asnwer my request, so now they're in my schit list of "Do NOT Buy From", Ever!.

WHy dont you just call Asus for an advance RAM and avoid all these hassels from ZZF. btw, i will never buy from them also.

I got all my stuff (except memory) from mwave. They were a bit cheaper for the mobo and CPU since they discount each item you put into a motherboard/cpu bundle. They just didn't have the memory in stock so I had to go to zzf for that. If I had to do it over I'd still go to mwave but I'd get some different memory. I'd like to be able to run tighter timings, but just can't. Oh well.

I'm experiencing similar things..: My E6400@3.2 is running great after i raised the Vcore and adjusted the memory latency (using Mushkin Em2), but 3DMark06 was like half of the points compared to stock clock (2.13G).. After a lot of research i found out that Pci-E switched to 1x. I momentarily fixed it by raising NB VCore to 1.55 but i'm not happy with it as MB temperatures are rising. All other Voltage is @ auto atm, should i raise SB VCore or is there another way to fix this ?

Hey guys a new dumb thing I discovered. You can have a front panel headphone/audio out that is on an entirely separate channel, ie., a new device.

If you go into the SoundMax preferences you can enable it, and then you have a new device in your sound settings. Kinda cool if you want to run mp3s on your stereo/speakers and use your headphones for gaming.

Or you could run Internet radio somewhere else with some long cords I guess.

Asus says the only fix in 701 is for not detecting the chassis fan...not really worth an update that.

Wonder what 706 does...

I have a question for everyone, What are the things I need to do to make this board boot to windows as fast as it can, with out overclocking or causing too much heat buildup?


on a side note, I dont want to overclock, but im getting a huge urge to as I read posts on this forum. Im nervuos to try really, guess im affraid I might damage something. hehehe This is a really cool forum by the way. I wish I knew about it a long time ago.

Oh Oh, one more question. How do I get the best FSB speeds out of this board as well, it seems people are getting lower speeds then they should?

Yep, Nvidia drivers also show it in 1x mode and, as i said, my 3dmarks are almost exactly half of what they should be.

guys may be this will help u..........

set PCI-E to Auto when you are facing the 1x problem

i set it to 1X and then confirmed with clockgen, the PCI-e was still @ 100 Mhz. Buggy bios causing the 1x issue. Now, setting to Auto fixed it.

pc can't boot with the OCZ but with a 512Mb of Vdata (awful) 533 the pc run all ok!!
i tried with some bios, 2 official and 2 beta..but the pc is died...
I tried with a single memory but nothing..and in all slot available..
my configuration is:

Vdata requires maybe 1.8V.
Up your ram voltage with the Vdata stick till 2.2V, try one ocz stick in the same slot (shut down the pc first ;) )

Anybody getting random system restarts? Mines restarting while running Orthos fine

Nah, mine double reboots everytime I reset, but this is just random restarts during normal operation. More of a stability issue. Weird thing is it will run SPI 1M fine to about 4450, but just does these random restarts if I leave it running Orthos even down as low as 4150. Temp is only +2c under load and voltage seems stable, only drooping .02 from idle.

Also, I don't have the "Intel speedstep tech" option under the CPU configuration menu in Bios. This is with 0614

I was having the same problem, system were stable for Orthos run, but it would restart during normal Window operation. Then the problem sort of went away after I increased the NB voltage to 1.65v.

Might give it a try as its only at 1.45 now and nothing seems to be getting hot yet, NB heatsink or Power mosfets. Mind you its only at 415 x 10 so I would have thought it was an issue.

Question on my mem......I have 2 gig of corsair xms2 ddr2 800 Rated for 1.9v
Ive bumped it up to 2.050v to help clear up the "Blank Monitor" Problems BUT every now and then "Blank Monitor" will happen again :mad: Should I bump it higher like say 2.1v? My current setting shows my volts are in the Red.Should I be concerned or is it safe?:shrug:

but my problem is next: i cant get it stable even @ 3200 mhz, orthos just keep erroring in 5 minuts. im usin ddr667 Adata Elpida IC-s , P5B Deluxe, zalman 9500, 600w seasonic

i have tryd all, higher cpu vcore etc, nothing helps 8-)

It's within the normal vdimm volts. Most of the ddr2-800 sticks need 2.1v by default.

ram - 2x512mb pc5300 geil value
everything is set to noramal

My problem
Ok guys as i have a quiet day today at work i decided to bring my computer there and reformatt and have a general clean up! After tidying everything up and cleaning everything i re-built my setup, upon plugging everything in and pressing power my computer won't post ? everything fires up and i'm pretty sure i can hear my hard drive wiring away but i get nothing on the screen, i don't even get a power led on my case anymore yet i know power is there as everything is fireing up!

Things i've tried :
-clearing cmos (including removal of the battery)
-booting the computer on bench (with only cpu, ram, and gfx)

The only thing i have done differently is put a new heatsinc on! but i can't see this as a problem

can anyone help or have they experienced problems with p5b's not posting before? could it be that my computer doesn't like the works old rubbish crt monitor?

I'm having exactly the same problem. Everything is running fine except orthos. I have water cooling and lower OC thou. Raising NB voltage to 1.65V didn't solved the problem.

problem solved fellas basically i had just over tightened my TT Typhoon loosened that off any hey presto she's now fireing on all cylinders! :rolleyes:

Anyone got hold of 0708 that was tested by Anandtech or even 0709?

does anyone know what does BIOS beep like this mean(beeeeeep beep beep beep). One long beep and three short beeps. it only plays one time. That happends when I raise my FSB above 400mhz. But I have expirienced it before when my VGA didn't work as it should. I bypass this by turning computer few times off and on. PCI-E freq is set to 101mhz

officially its when the graphics card isnt seated properly in its slot but if you overclocking then sounds like the gfx isnt handling well due to the oc.

your PCI-E freq is to high ;) i had the same problem... my pcie freq is now @ 97 and the mashine rocks ;) (p5b del., e6600 @ 3,6ghz, fsb @ 400, ram @ 1000 mhz)

Yeah, raising the Vnb didn't help me in the end.current voltages are,

Vdimm - 2.0
Vcore - 1.6 (1.55idle 1.53 load)
Vfsb - 1.40
Vnb - 1.45

trying Vfsb at 1.45 now and it looks better, but I had it running higher before too.

Yeah I have found that there is a huge difference between SPI 1M and 3dmark or Orthos stable. I can SPI at 4400ish but I'd be under 4100ish totally stable.

I've searched the heck out of this and other threads for info on IDE > SATA adapters. I don't want to use the plagued J-Micron adapter any more and i have 2 optical drives. DVD ROM and DVD-R/W. Will an IDE to SATA adapter work on BOTH drives and which brands of adapters have been the most successful?

320GB SATA
120GB IDE
Zalman 9500CPU Cooler
ANtec NeoHe 500W

I tried 335FSB X 9 at stock core (set to auto in bios). I tried vcore at 1.25-1.3V and it would not POST. Thought the stock vcore is about that range.

That's basically what i did. Beyond 340FSB the system becomes unstable.

Am trying to hit at least 400X 9. Any hints ?

Have you set all memory timings to manual? and raise the VCore to 1.425 for up to 350FSB easy and memory to 2.1v (agreed I have 4GB PC2-6400 GeIL - but should be the same)

There's also the FSB term and NB Vcore. raise those to 1.30 and 1.45 respectively.

dram frq - auto
pci express frq - 120
pci clock sycro - 33.33 Mhz
Spread spectrum - disabled
Mem voltage - 2.1
cpu vcore - 1.425
fsb termination - 1.3
nb vcore - 1.45

results : BSOD
